Spalling resistance and mechanical performance of UHPC under high temperature using hybrid natural and artificial fibers

  • This research plans to investigate the simultaneous impact of bamboo fibers (BF) and steel fibers (SF) on the mechanical and spalling characteristics of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) exposed to high temperatures (HT). To this aim, 25 mixtures were made and assessed. BF was added at five contents of 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 kg/m3. Additionally, SF was used at five weight contents: 0%, 1%, 2%, 3% and 4%. Specimens were exposed to temperatures ranging between 25℃ and 800℃. Thus, com-pressive, tensile, and flexural strengths, elastic moduli, mass loss, and permeability were measured. Experiments revealed that the simultaneous use of low BF and SF contents could totally prevent spalling of UHPC, but the use of either SF or BF alone could not prevent spalling at high levels of fibers. Besides, the synergetic positive impact of BF and SF on the spalling resistance of UHPC was by reason of the rise of BF' permeability and the bridging role of SF at HT. Moreover, it was concluded that the use of SF could moderate the adverse influence of BF on the compressive resistance of UHPC.

This perspective was derived from that of Zecharia Sitchin, in which he tells the history of the earth and mankind from a very unique perspective. He claimed that the intelligent beings (according to Sitchen, we called them the gods) on this planet created mankind and brought them ancient civilizations. The purpose of this study is to analyze under the determination that a comparative analysis can be made between SF movies and an art genre, in the outlook that Sitchin's perspectives are under extraordinary attention of religious and academic circles and are assisting in solving many mysteries on earth with currently excavated archaeological evidences, to identify the factors of consensus between the message Sitchin wanted to convey and SF movies and find the historical perspectives of Sitchin in the cross-section between Sitchin and the narratives in .

The Fundamental Characteristics for Mix Proportion of Multi-Component Cement (배합비에 따른 다성분계 시멘트의 기초특성)

  • The aim of this research work is to investigate the mix proportion of multi-component cement incorporating ground granulated blast furnace(GGBFS), fly ash(FA) and silica fume(SF) as an addition to cement in ternary and quaternary combinations. The water-binder ratio was 0.45. In this study, 50% and 60% replacement ratios of mineral admixture to OPC was used, while series of combination of 20~40% GGBFS, 5~35% FA and 0~15% SF binder were used for fundamental characteristics tests. This study concern the GGBFS/FA ratio and SF contents of multi-component cement including the compressive strength, water absorptions, ultrasonic pulse velocity(UPV), drying shrinkage and X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysises. The results show that the addition of SF can reduce the water absorption and increase the compressive strength, UPV and drying shrinkage. These developments in the compressive strength, UPV and water absorption can be attributed to the fact that increase in the SF content tends basically to consume the calcium hydroxide crystals released from the hydration process leading to the formation of further CSH(calcium silicate hydrate). The strength, water absorption and UPV increases with an increase in GGBFS/FA ratios for a each SF contents. The relationship between GGBFS/FA ratios and compressive strength, water absorption, UPV is close to linear. It was found that the GGBFS/FA ratio and SF contents is the key factor governing the fundamental properties of multi-component cement.

Comparison of Physicochemical Properties and Antioxidative Activities of Sunflower Sprout According to Germination Day (발아일수에 따른 해바라기 싹의 이화학적 특성 및 항산화성 비교)

  • It is well known that sunflower (SF) sprout has more beneficial effects than SF seed due to increased levels of phytochemical components such as vitamins, total phenolics, and isoflavones during germination. This study investigated the physicochemical properties and antioxidative activities of SF seed during both germination and cultivation. In a proximate analysis, the water content of SF groat was 9.17% and then increased to 15.32% on the 11th day after seeding. On a dry weight basis, crude fat content decreased while the contents of carbohydrates, crude protein, and crude ash increased. As cultivation proceeded, the contents of minerals were in decreasing order of K, Mg, Ca, Na, Zn, Fe, Mn, and Cu, in which SF sprout cultivated for 9 or 11 days contained the highest mineral contents. Though vitamin C was not detected on SF groat, the content of vitamin C continuously increased up to the 5th day of cultivation and then decreased gradually. Vitamin E content in SF groat was higher than that in SF sprout. It was also found that the vitamin E content in SF sprout was the highest on the 5th day of cultivation. Daidzin was not detected in SF groat, but its concentration reached a maximum on the 5th day of cultivation in SF sprouts. Furthermore, higher amounts of daidzein were observed on the 3rd, 5th, and 9th days of cultivation. The highest total isoflavone content was observed on either the 3rd or 5th day of cultivation. The highest content of total phenolics was observed on the 5th of cultivation. When DPPH radical and peroxyl radical scavenging activities of SF sprout were measured in order to measure antioxidant efficacy, it was found that 5 day-cultivated SF sprout had the highest scavenging activities. In conclusion, SF sprout cultivated for 9 or 11 days was found to be a good source of minerals. Furthermore, the fifth-day after seeding was the optimal time for the production of SF sprout with effective natural antioxidant activity and high amounts of functional components such as vitamins, total phenolics, and isoflavones.

  • 인공지능의 지속적인 발달로 자아의식을 가진 사이보그가 개발되며 인간과 동등한 지위를 갖게 되는 존재로 진화하게 될 것으로 예상되고 있다. 사이보그와 인간과의 관계는 인간과 인간과의 관계와 큰 차이가 없는 수준으로 발전할 수 있을 것이다. 감정이 있을 수 있으며 그로 인하여 여러 갈등도 존재할 수 있다. '2001 스페이스 오디세이', 'A.I', '그녀'와 같은 영화 내용들을 통해 미래 사회에 펼쳐질 인간과 사이보그의 관계를 유추해 볼 수 있다. SF 영화에 묘사된 인간과 사이보그와의 관계에서 일어나는 갈등의 사례를 탐색해 본다.

  • It is not easy to understand that the drama with various aspects of political-economics and psychology in a certain popular cultural contents. People, however, does want to reconstruct the meaning of the real world and the hyper - reality, it means cross of oldness and newness, through the films. We try to analyze in religious/philosophical aspect with hybrid narrative, characters and condensed meaning in series. This try shows a good example way of understanding series which on the border line of newness and oldness.

Effect of silica fume and polyepoxide-based polymer on electrical resistivity, mechanical properties, and ultrasonic response of SCLC

  • This study focused on the influences regarding the use of polyepoxide-based polymer and silica fume (SF) on the fresh and hardened state properties of self-compacting lightweight concrete (SCLC) along with their impacts on electrical resistance and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV). To do so, two series of compositions each of which consists of twelve mixes, with water to binder (W/B) ratios of 0.35 and 0.4 were cast. Three different silica fume/binder ratios of 0, 5%, and 10% were considered along with four different polymer/binder ratios of 0, 5%, 10%, and 15%. Afterwards, the rupture modulus, tensile strength, 14-day, 28-day, and 90-day compressive strength, the UPV and the electrical resistance of the mixes were tested. The results indicated that although the use of polymer could enhance the passing and filling abilities, it could lead to a decrease of segregation resistance. In addition, the interaction of the SF and the polymeric contents enhanced the workability. However, the impacts regarding the use of polymeric contents on fresh state properties of SCLC were more prevalent than those regarding the use of SF. Besides the fresh state properties, the durability and mechanical properties of the mixes were affected due to the use of polymeric and SF contents. In other words, the use of the SF and the polymer enhanced the durability and mechanical properties of SCLC specimens.

  • The characteristic of mutant has long history, which is shown in various science fictions. There are different types and characters like Satyrs from Ancient Greek to superheroes in present. In fact, however, mutant as a cultural content has not been discussed sufficiently in Korea, even if related analyses were required indeed. In the thesis the characteristic and types of 'Homo Mutant' will be introduced and analyzed in many aspects and look for the reason why 'Homo Mutant' can be revealed and apply for further possibilities.
