침탄처리한 SCM420H의 미끄럼 마모 특성에 미치는 침탄 조건의 영향 (Effects of Carburizing Process on Sliding wear Behavior of Carburized SCM420H Steel)

  • The effects of the carburizing process on the sliding wear behavior of SCM420H steel have been investigated. In particular, the effects of grain boundary corrosion observed in the surface layer after gas carburizing and the effects of hardness of the carburized cases after heat-treatment on the sliding wear properties were examined. Pin specimens carburized by two methods (gas carburizing and vacuum carburizing) were tempered at two temperatures of 180℃ and 400℃ after oil-quenching, respectively. Sliding wear tests were carried out against heattreated SKH51 steel at several sliding speeds using a pin-on-disc type test machine. As results, it can be found that there is no difference in the wear behavior between the pins carburized using two methods. This implies that the grain boundary corrosion that formed in the surface layer after gas carburizing has no effect on the sliding wear behavior of carburized SCM420H steels. Additionally, there is no significant difference in the wear behavior between carburized pins tempered at 400℃ and at 180℃ after oil-quenching, regardless of the carburizing method. This is because carburized pins tempered at 400℃ have a troostite structure, which exhibits higher tribochemical reactivity even though its hardness is lower than that of martensite structure. In this respect, it can be considered that good wear resistance of carburized cases is maintained at least until the effective case depth.

  • Heat treatment is one of the critical manufacturing processes that determine the quality of a product. This paper presents experimental and analytical results for the quench of a ring gear in stagnant oil. The goal of this study is to develop heat transfer predicting model in an overall analysis of the quenching process, Thermal conductivities which are dependant on temperatures and convection coefficients which are obtained by inverse method are used to develop the accurate heat transfer model. The results of heat transfer model have a good agreement with experimental results.

  • The fault of an automobile transmission gear occurs whenever moving tooth surfaces interact. Such a failure condition has an effect on the frictional factors such as applied load, sliding speed, frictional time and gear oil. However, it is difficult to know the mutual relation of these factors. In this study, the friction and wear tests were carried out to get the friction characteristics with carburized SCM420 and nitrocarburized NT100 have being used as automobile transmission gear materials. And it was undertaken to analyze the frictional factors that have effect on frictional characteristics by using design of experiment. From this study, the result showed that the applied load in frictional factors was the most important, next to frictional time, sliding speed. And the friction characteristics of nitrocarburized NT100 was more excellent than carburized SCM420.

  • To improve and control the mechanical properties of low alloy steel, the influence of quenching and tempering process conditions was investigated. In the case of quenching heat treatment, a comparison was made between the conventional method of heating to the austenite region followed by single quenching and a method involving double quenching, followed by high-temperature tempering. It was observed that specimens subjected to double quenching exhibited significantly finer tempered microstructures compared to those subjected to conventional quenching, resulting in noticeably higher hardness. Additionally, a study was conducted to investigate the variation in hardness with changes in tempering temperature and time after the same conventional quenching treatment. As expected, an increase in tempering temperature or time led to a decrease in hardness, and the correlation between hardness and the Hollomon-Jeffe Parameter was confirmed. It was also observed that during high-temperature tempering, the size of carbides significantly increased.

  • The surface treatment technique to increase corrosion resistance is very important in mechanical components of structures. Therefore, this paper investigates the effects of shot peening on the corrosion resistance of SCM 420steel. The results show that the surface compressive residual stress largely increases, which cause the increase of corrosion resistance.

  • The characteristics of AE(Acoustic Emission) signal is related to cutting conditio, tool material, and tool geometry in metal cutting. The relation between AE signal and tool life was investigated experimentally. Experiment is carried out by gear shaping and SCM 420 workpiece. AE RMS voltage were increased according totool wear. It is suggested that maximum value of AE RMS voltage is an effective parameter to monitor tool life.

TiCN PACVD코팅 초경호브의 Skiving절삭특성 평가 (An Evaluation of Skiving Cutting Characteristics of TiCN PACVD Coating Caribide Hob)

  • SCM420재질의 기어를 담금질을 실시한 후 초경호브(Hob)에 PACVD 코팅처리 후 표면경도가 높은 표면(HRC 60)을 절삭하였다. 코팅처리 없이 난삭재(難削材)로 분류되는 경도가 큰것, 경한 물질을 포함한 것, 강도가 높은 것에 공구수명과 생산성을 향상에는 한계성을 가지고 있다. 이를 개선하기 위해 초경호브에 TiCN코팅처리 전후에 대하여 Skiving 절삭으로 코팅처리 한 호브가 가공성이 좋고, 공구마멸이 적어, 공구수명이 2.5배 증가하는 결과를 얻었다. 실험은 CNC 스카이빙 호빙머신을 이용하여 습식절삭으로 절삭속도와 이송량으로 다양한 조건을 적용하여 공구마멸과 표면거칠기 데이터를 얻었다. 실험결과 조건 2에서(V=200m/min F=0.7mm/rev) Cutting speed가 절삭표면에 Feed Mark가 미세하고, 표면거칠기는 Rmax $4.7{\mu}m$(Ra $1.19{\mu}m$)의 데이터를 얻었다.

  • Characteristics of AE(Acoustic Emission) signal is related to cutting conditions, tool materials, and tool geometry in metal cutting. Relation between AE signal and tool wear was investigated experimentally. Experiment is carried out by interrupted cutting for SCM420 workpiece with TiN coating tool on HSS material. AE RMS voltage and count per event were increased according to tool wear. The major results are as follows : 1) AE RMS value is nearly constant as cutting speed changes, but is rapidly increase as feed rate increases. 2) AE RMS value and Count per Event increase as tool wear increases. 3) It is more effective to monitor tool wear by Incremental rate of AE RMS value than by Incremental rate of count per event.

  • SCM420 steel cutting gear to improve the durability is quenched. When quenching, increases surface hardness, a change of the physical properties and machinability or fall. This study, using a solid carbide hobs skiving hobbing gear cutting finishing. And cutting tool solid carbide TiAlN coating hove when TiAlN coating on the surface of multi-con polishing hob conducted aero lap nano polishing for each cutting. Experimental results conducted aero lap nano coating on the surface polishing tool machinability was excellent. And aero lap nano polishing tool results were reduced 2.5 times the tool wear compared to TiAlN coated tools. Excellent results were 1.42 times longer tool life.
