Centralized Control Algorithm for Power System Performance using FACTS Devices in the Korean Power System

  • This paper presents a centralized control algorithm for power system performance in the Korean power system using Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices. The algorithm is applied to the Korean power system throughout the metropolitan area in order to alleviate inherent stability problems, especially concerns with voltage stability. Generally, control strategies are divided into local and centralized control. This paper is concerned with a centralized control strategy in terms of the global system. In this research, input data of the proposed algorithm and network data are obtained from the SCADA/EMS system. Using the full system model, the centralized controller monitors the system condition and decides the operating point according to the control objectives that are, in turn, dependent on system conditions. To overcome voltage collapse problems, load-shedding is currently applied in the Korean power system. In this study, the application of the coordination between FACTS and switch capacitor (SC) can restore the solvability without load shedding or guarantee the FV margin when the margin is insufficient. Optimal Power Flow (OPF) algorithm, for which the objective function is loss minimization, is used in a stable case. The results illustrate examples of the proposed algorithm using SCADA/EMS data of the Korean power system in 2007.

  • In the past, the control system was a closed network that was not connected to the external network. However, in recent years, many cases have been opened to the outside for the convenience of management. Are connected to the Internet, and the number of operating control systems is increasing. As a result, it is obvious that hackers are able to make various attack attempts targeting the control system due to external open, and they are exposed to various security threats and are targeted for attack. Industrial control systems that are open to the outside have most of the remote management ports for web services or remote management, and the expansion of web services through web programs inherits the common web vulnerability as the control system is no exception. In this study, we classify and compare existing web vulnerability items in order to derive the most commonly tried web hacking attacks against control system from the attacker's point of view. I tried to confirm.

  • 최근 들어 VSAT 시스템은 수요자의 필요에 의해 많은 기술발전을 가져왔다. 과거에는 저속의 데이터 통신 및 전화위주로 많이 사용되었으나 최근에는 통신량의 증가와 인터넷의 발달로 고속의 데이터통신 시스템으로 발전하고 있다.[1] 따라서 Application Service에 따라 기존의 TDMA 방식의 VSAT 시스템과 고속통신용의 DVB-RCS 시스템으로 양분되어 사용하고 있다. 기존의 TDMA 방식은 주로 SCADA, POS, VOICE 통신 등의 저속 데이터 통신 위주로 많이 사용하고 DVB-RCS 방식은 Multi Media 및 인터넷 서비스로 고속의 데이터 통신 용으로 많이 사용되고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 원격 무인 사이트가 Solar-Cell Battery를 이용하는 측면에서 소비전력 최소화 및 유지보수 편리성을 증대하기 위한 측면을 고려하여 무선 원격 자료 전송을 위한 VSAT 시스템 설계, 알고리즘 및 H/W제작을 소개하고자 한다.

  • The substation automation is a system to remote-monitor and control electric power flow. And in line with electrification of railway, an interest in electric railway substation automation is increasing. IEC standardized IEC 61850, IEC 61968 and IEC 61970 communication protocol for the telecommunication standardization of the electric power automation industry. The recent SCADA systems in managed electric railway substations are have the problem about the compatibility with the products which fit to the international standard specification afterward. In this paper, the model of electric railway substation automation based on IEC 61850 and IEC 61970 is presented. And the method supporting the compatibility between the equipment is proposed.

  • In order to access to the Business Computer (B/C), the Process Computer(P/C), and the Database Server in one terminal, the Open Man Machine Interface (MMI) System has been developed. The testbed to develop the interface functions for B/C, P/C, DB server, and CCD camera were constructed, which consisted of Workstations and Personal Computers (PC). Graphic display programs Monitoring the process states of Tandem Cold Mill plant were developed using four Graphic User Interface tools: InTouch, FIX32, Open Interface Environment, and ILOG Views. With regard to the CPU utilization and response delay required to open new display, the performance tests have been carried out on each MMI platform.

  • In this paper we proposed backward fuzzy Petri-net to diagnoses faults in power systems by using the time sequence information of protection system. As the complexity of power systems increases, especially in the case of multiple faults or incorrect operation of protective devices, fault diagnosis requires new and systematic methods to the reasoning process, which improves both its accuracy and its efficiency. The fuzzy Petri-net models of protection system are composed of the operating process of protective devices and the fault diagnosis process. Fault diagnosis model, which makes use of the nature of fuzzy Petri-net, is developed to overcome the drawbacks of methods that depend on operator knowledge. The proposed method can reduce processing time and increase accuracy when compared with the traditional methods. And also this method covers online processing of real-time data from SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)

  • 최근, 에너지, 정보통신, 방위산업, 정부, 금융 등 국가기반시설(national critical infrastructures)들에 대한 사이버 보안 위협이 급격히 증가하고 있으며 이에 대응하기 위해 미국을 비롯한 주요 국가에서는 감시제어 및 데이터 취득 시스템(SCADA: Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)에 대한 사이버 보안에 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 특히, 주요 국가 기반시설은 다양한 실시간 분산 제어시스템 및 네트워크를 통해 사이버 세계(cyber world)와 물리적 세계(physical world)를 연계한다. 하지만 이 같은 역동성(dynamic), 확장성(scalability), 다양성(diversity)으로 특징지어질수 있는 실시간 분산 제어시스템간의 상호연결과 연동을 통해 구성되는 해당시설은 기존의 보안기술 적용을 통해 보안성향상을 기대할 수 없다. 따라서 본고에서는 실시간 분산 제어시스템과 다양한 네트워크로 구성되는 기반시설들을 대상으로 하는 여러 가지 보안 위협 및 특징을 소개하고 이에 대응하기 위한 전략 및 연구기술 동향을 간략히 서술한다.

Cold electronics based 128 temperature sensor interface with 14 leads for testing of high Tc superconducting cable

  • High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) power cables are capable of transmitting bulk power without any loss compared to conventional copper cables. The major challenge in the design of such HTS cables is the high stresses (electro-thermal/electro-mechanical) developed at high voltages, high currents and cryogenic temperatures. The safe and reliable operation of HTS cables involves lots of instrumentation for monitoring, measurement, control and safe operation. In principle, a four probe method for resistance (RTD PT-100) is used for temperature measurements at various locations of HTS cable. The number of connecting leads required for this is four times that of the number of sensors. The present paper discusses a novel way of connecting 128 RTD sensors with the help of only 14 leads using a cold electronics based multiplexer board. LabVIEW 11.0 software was used for interfacing and displaying the readings of all the sensors on computer screen.

  • 국내 IT 인프라 수준은 세계 최고임에도 불구하고 그에 미치지 못하는 정보보안체계로 많은 사이버 위협에 노출되어 있다. 이는 산업제어시스템 또한 점차 온라인상으로 제어되기 시작하면서, 국가 기반 시설인 에너지 기업에도 문제가 확대되고 있다. 산업제어시스템인 원자력 발전소 SCADA 시스템의 경우 최근 이란에서 스턱스넷 공격으로 인해 발전소 가동이 중단되는 사태가 발생하기도 하였다. 이러한 사이버 보안 위협 에 대응하기 위해 현재 도입된 정보보안체계는 다양한 분야별로 충분한 이해를 바탕으로 그 성격에 맞게 적용이 되어야 하지만 획일화 된 기준과 평가방식으로 비효율적인 결과를 만들고 있다. 이러한 문제를 인식하고 에너지 분야에 초점을 맞추어 그에 적합한 특화된 정보보호 관리체계를 수립하는 동시에 평가지수의 제도화 및 활성화를 제안하고자 한다. 이 제안을 통해 에너지기반 시설 위험을 방지하고 각종 위협에 대처능력이 향상 될 것을 기대한다.

  • The exchange of information with legacy systems is a main issue in the era of SMARTGRID. Because WAMAC(Wide Area Monitoring and Control) system has monitoring function, as well as control function, it is very necessary for WAMAC to exchange data and information with SCADA(Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) / EMS(Energy Management System). IEC 61970 CIM(Common Information Model) is an abstract model that represents all the major objects in an electric utility enterprise typically involved in utility operations. In this paper, a proposal that adopting CIM to WAMAC model be submitted so that the integration of various legacy system and application for itself be able to be flexible.
