Long term monitoring of a cable stayed bridge using DuraMote

  • DuraMote is a remote sensing system developed for the "NIST TIP project: next generation SCADA for prevention and mitigation of water system infrastructure disaster". It is designed for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) of ruptures in water pipes. Micro-electro mechanical (MEMS) accelerometers, which record the vibration of the pipe wall, are used detect the ruptures. However, the performance of Duramote cannot be verified directly on a water distribution system because it lacks an acceptable recordable level of ambient vibration. Instead, a long-span cable-stayed bridge is an ideal test-bed to validate the accuracy, the reliability, and the robustness of DuraMote because the bridge has an acceptable level of ambient vibration. The acceleration data recorded on the bridge were used to identify the modal properties of the structure and to verify the performance of DuraMote. During the test period, the bridge was subjected to heavy rain, wind, and a typhoon but the system demonstrates its robustness and durability.

Improving the Quality of Customer Service of Electrical Power Supply using an Integrated Outage Management System

  • An Integrated Outage Management System (IOMS) is a utility owned, centralized information system. Using the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) methodology, the IOMS integrates different databases and components of outage management systems to improve the quality of service of electrical power to customers. This paper describes the development of an IOMS and its related utility functionality. The design considerations, salient features, component integration, functional aspects, and implementation issues of the IOMS are discussed. Evidence shows that the IOMS implementation would result in improving the overall quality of electric power supply and effective outage management significantly.

  • SCADA시스템은 변전소 구내에 시설되어 있는 설비를 원격에서 감시제어하는 시스템이고, 배전자동화시스템(DAS)은 배전선로에시설되어 있는 각종 배전설비를 원격에서 감시제어하고 있는 시스템이다. 이 시스템들은 독립적인 시스템으로 개발되었고 각각 다른 제어 센터에서 운영이 되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 변전설비를 집중 감시제어하는 SCADA시스템과 배전설비를 감시제어하는 배전자동화시스템을 한 제어센터에서 통합 운영하기 위한 방안을 검토하였다. 개별 시스템의 특징과 기능, 시스템 구성방법 및 연계방안을 기술적으로 분석하여 제어센터의 통합 방안을 기술하였다.

  • Generator excitation system, supplying the voltage to power system, is controlled by various manners as aspects of power system. Previously excitation systems mainly used AVR(Automatic Voltage Regulator) and FCR(Field Current Regulator) to control voltage, but nowadays the excitation systems have the tendency to adopt AQR(Automatic Reactive power Regulator) and APFR(Automatic Power Factor Regulator) to do it so as to get into step with diverse requirements of power system and high digital technology. This paper presents which operation methods is effective for the equipment, according to increase the unmanned power station thanks to automation technic.

  • In this paper, the application schemes for coordinated control system of multiple FACTS were presented to enhance the voltage stability around the metropolitan areas. In order to coordinated control of FACTS devices, f-V analysis method which is one of the indices for voltage stability was performed with real time network data which is transferred from SCADA/EMS system. If the system is unstable after contingencies, the new operation set-point of FACTS would be determined using bus sensitivity from tangent vector at voltage instability point. Otherwise, we would determine the new operation set-point of FACTS for considering economical operation, like as active power loss minimization using Optimal Power Flow algorithm. In simulation, the SCADA/EMS 2007's data are used for studying the coordinated control algorithm of multiple FACTS devices that is installed or will be installed in KOREA power system

  • In the distribution system, Change of system happens frequently. However, most of the relays are operated manually by a person or not changed when system changed. So, when fault happened, a case that relaydoes not act rapidly happens. Also, in current power system, digital relays are used because of digitization of relay. Digital relay has very many advantages than existing analog relay. One of these advantages is that communication is available and easily can make characteristic curve. If specific values are sent to a relay by communication, A relay can make suitable characteristic curve according to the value. In this paper, by using voltages and currents measured by relay, state of CB(Circuit Breaker) and these relays, SCADA(Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system that control and correct characteristic curve of overcurrent relay at system change by using HMI(Human Machine Interface) is proposed.

  • 산업계에서의 제어시스템(Control System)은 크게 SCADA(Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) 시스템, 분산 제어시스템(Distributed Control System, DCS), PLC 시스템 (Programmable Logic Controller System)으로 분류할 수 있다. 특히 전력분야의 SCADA 시스템은 목적상 실시간의 대규모 측정 정보 취득을 목적으로 운영되며, 실시간 및 이력 데이터베이스, 원격 데이터 취득, 다양한 데이터 처리, Supervisory Control 등 복잡한 기능과 다양한 전력시스템과의 정보교환이 요구된다. 다양한 전력시스템과의 정보 교환을 위한 표준화 요구에 부응하여, 향후 전력시스템은 표준화되고 공개된 정보모델을 활용한 통합시스템 개발이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 전력 공통정보모델(CIM)과 애플리케이션 통합 정보기술을 이용한 전력시스템의 메시지 통합버스 설계에 대하여 기술하고자 한다.
