  • This experimental study of prominent section bending behavior beam without shear connector provides bond capacity between concrete profile and initial stiffness of SC beam by comparing the test result with a theological analysis result and an ANSYS(common structural analysis program) analysis result. The compared result provides a fundamental study for practical use of efficient SC beam. Test result indicates 88%-98% rate of theological result in moment capacity and composition ratio shows 30%-70%. In other words, the results are insufficient to make a complete composite action. Therefore, it is need to make pull shear connection of connection method.

  • This study has attempted to suggest a proper reinforcement method by strengthening unbonded post -tensioning through height of an anchorage hole, form of a saddle, and loading time point as parameters and evaluating the reinforcement method through a bending experiment. The result of this experiment indicated effects of reinforcement since the maximum strength ratio(the ratio of an experimental value to theoretical value) of SC composite beams before prestressed was 0.97 and after prestress were 1.00~1.21. As a result of analysis on displacement and strain, irrespective of height of an anchorage hole and loading time point, the D120-series specimen where an anchorage hole was installed on the neutral axis after reinforcement showed that its deflection continuously increased without sudden load reduction after maximum load and it stably behaved with relatively low strain of each part. In terms of reinforcement effects, the maximum strength of SCR-UD120 specimen prestressed after pre-loading was increased 1.72 times comparing to SC composite beams so SCR-UD120 specimen prestressed after pre-loading was shown to be the best.

  • This experimental investigation was conducted to observe the shear strengthening behavior of pre-damaged reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened with externally post-tensioning steel rods. A total of six simply supported beams - two control beams and four post-tensioned beams using external steel rods - were tested to failure in shear. The external steel rods of 18 mm or 28 mm diameter were respectively employed as post-tensioning material. The four post-tensioned beams have a V-shaped profile with a deviator (or saddle pin) located at mid-span, and the post-tensioning system increased the low load-carrying capacity and overcame a little bit of deflection caused by damage. Concretely, the load-carrying capacity and flexural stiffness were respectively increased by about 25~57% and 263~387% due to the post-tensioning when compared with the unstrengthened control beams.

  • This paper studies the bending behavior of ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) beams focused on the effect of variation in major material design parameters such as tensile strength, elastic modulus of UHPFRC, and rebar ratio. Analytical results show that the variation in the range of ${\pm}20%$ in the tensile strength of UHPFRC causes the significant difference in ${\pm}8{\sim}9%$ of bending strength compared to the reference condition. The variation of elastic modulus in UHPFRC rarely causes the effect on the bending strength of the UHPFRC section, whereas causes the difference in the slopes of moment-curvature curves, indicating different bending stiffness of UHPFRC sections. For the rebar with yield strength of 400MPa, the bending strength of SC120f is increased by 30, 67, and 99% when the rebar ratio is 1.0, 1.5, and 20%, respectively, compared to the rebar ratio of 0.5%. Therefore, it is observed that the variation of rebar ratio significantly affects the difference in bending strength of UHPFRC beams. However, as the compressive strength of UHPFRC becomes greater, the effect of rebar ratio on the increase of bending strength is decreased.

  • The main objective of this experimental study is to investigate shear strength of reinforced concrete beams according to longitudinal reinforcement ratio (ρ) and size effect. In order to find out the shear strength according to the tensile reinforcement ratio, in particular, the main variables are 100%, 75% and 50% of ρ=0.01 which is widely used in construction field. A total of twelve RC beams were tested under 4-point loading conditions. In addition to the existing proposal equations, the theoretical values such as KBC and ACI equations are compared with the experimental data. Through this analysis, this study is designed to provide more reasonable equations for shear design of reinforced concrete beams. When shear reinforcement bar spacing of nine specimens (R*-1, R*-2, and R*-3 series) fixed as d/s=2.0 and three specimens of R*-4 series fixed as d/s=1.5 are compared, the shear strength of two groups showed similar values. As a result, the current standard of d/s=2.0 for shear reinforcement bar spacing may be somewhat alleviated.

  • In the preceding study, a series of results was presented according to factors like as attaching method of main bar, shear span to depth ratio, reinforcing method for different types of region among various factors, which could determine the properties of composite beams. Based on these results, this study was planned to investigate the structural behaviors of according to attaching method of main bar for composite beams(end-reinforced concrete(RC), center-steel concrete (SC)) varying ratio of tensile bar to steel mainly. Consequently, there were little difference according to attaching method of main bar. And as the ratio of tensile bar to steel increase, the efficiency of strength was high, but ductile capacity of beams could deteriorate. Therefore, to maximize the structural properties of composite beams, it was considered that the ratio of tensile bar to steel should be limited.

  • In this paper, the basic data regarding the application of the MSC (Modular Steel Concrete) beam are presented by comparing the experimental value with the theoretical value, focusing on the bending behavior of the Lip-type MSC beam, which is composed of steel and concrete. Considerable manpower is needed to fabricate the traditional MSC beam, particularly for the tasks of cutting, welding, etc. Because much time is needed to fabricate the traditional SC beam, the prefabrication concept is introduced, easily produce the required size of the SC beam by prefabricating the side module and the lower module, which is made up of a steel sheet. The result indicates that the method of uniting the modules, an d the composition method with concrete, should be improved. The proposed MSC beam can be used as a new structural member by increasing its coherent reinforcement with modules and the composition ratio of steel and concrete through a future study.

  • This study evaluated the fire resisting capacity and post-fire serviceability of the concrete beams retrofitted by near surface mounted method(NSM) using GFRP plates. Main parameters in the test are grout materials and fire exposure. For the test, two types of grout materials between concrete substrate and GFRP plate were used; flame resisting epoxy and filling mortar. Four RC beam specimens were made and two of them were exposed to fire according to real scale fire curve proposed KS F 2257. After the fire exposure test, flexural test were performed to investigate the flexural performance of concrete beams including strength and deformation. From the test results, it was found that the beam retrofitted by NSM-GFRP presented higher flexural strength than that of the beam without retrofit, which indicates NSM-GFRP retrofit technologies is effective to maintain flexural strength even after fire exposure. In addition, the specimens grouted by epoxy showed good performance in strength but bad performance in ductility.

  • In this study, total nine R/C beams, designed by the PVA Fiber with ground granulated blast furnace slag and recycled fine aggregate were constructed and tested under monotonic loading. In the material development, micromechanics was adopted to properly select the optimized range of the composite based on steady-state cracking theory and experimental studies on the matrix and interracial properties. Experimental programs were carried out to improve and evaluate the structural performance of the test specimens: the load-displacement, the failure mode, the maximum strength, and ductility capacity were assessed. Test results showed that test specimens (BSPR-20, 40) was increased the maximum load carrying capacity by 3~6% and the ductility capacity by 9~14% in comparison with the standard specimen (BSS). And the specimens (BSPR-60, 80, 100) was decreased the maximum load carrying capacity by 0~4% and the ductility capacity by 79% in comparison with the standard specimen (BSS) respectively.

  • This paper presents the shear strengthening effect of externally post-tensioning (EPT) method using high-strength steel rod in pre-cracked reinforced concrete (RC) beams. Three- and four-point bending tests were performed on a total of 8 specimens by adjusting the strengthening depths in the deviator position of EPT. The effective strengthening depths were 435, 535, and 610 mm. The pre-loading up to about 2/3 of ultimate load capacity measured in unstrengthened RC beam were applied in the beam to be post-tensioned. The EPT method was then applied to the pre-damaged RC beams and re-loading was added until the end of the test. EPT restored deflections of 3 mm or more, which account for about 40% of deflection when the pre-loading was applied. The shear strengthening increases more than 3 times and 36~107% in terms of the stiffness and load-carrying capacity compared to unstrengthening RC beams. The increased load-carrying capacities of the post-tensioned beam with strengthening depths of 435 and 535 mm are almost the same as 36~61%, and those of 610 mm are 84~107%, which shows the greatest shear strengthening effect.
