  • This study aims to develop and advance the evaluation technology for assessing PHWR safety. For this purpose, the complete loss of AC power or station blackout (SBO) was selected as a target accident scenario and the analysis model to evaluate the plant responses was envisioned into the MARS-KS input model. The model includes the main features of the primary heat transport system with a simplified model for the horizontal fuel channels, the secondary heat transport system including the shell side of steam generators, feedwater and main steam line, and moderator system. A steady state condition was achieved successfully by running the present model to check out the stable convergence of the key parameters. Subsequently, through the SBO transient analyses two cases with and without the coolant leakage via the PHTS pumps were simulated and the behaviors of the major parameters were compared. The sensitivity analysis on the amount of the coolant leakage by varying its flow area was also performed to investigate the effect on the system responses. It is expected that the results of the present study will contribute to upgrading the evaluation technology of the detailed thermal hydraulic analysis on the SBO transient of the operating PHWRs.

대두유와 쌀눈기름의 급여가 인슐린 의존형 당뇨 마우스의 지질대사에 미치는 영향 (Supplementary effect of Soybean oil and Rice germ oil on Lipid Metabolism in Insulin dependent Diabetic Mice)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the supplementary effects of soybean oil and rice gem oil compared with lard on lipid metabolism of insulin dependent diabetic mice. Streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice were fed three kinds of experimental diets with 20% lipid from lard(L), soy bean oil(SBO) and rice gem oil(RGO) for 7 weeks, respectively. Diet intake, body weight, organs weights and lipids levels of serum, liver and feces were measured. There was no significant difference in diet intake, body and organs weights among experimental groups. But the concentrations of serum triglyceride of SBO and RGO groups, and of serum total cholesterol were lower in RGO group than in the other groups. The hepatic total lipid and total cholesterol levels of RGO group were significantly lower than those of the other groups. The contents of total lipid and total cholesterol excreted in feces of SBO and RGO groups were higher than those of L group, and the significance was shown only in RGO group. These results suggested that soy bean oil and rice germ oil can reduce serum triglyceride and total cholesterol levels and hepatic total lipid concentration of insulin dependent diabetic mice compared with lard as a animal fat source by increasing fecal lipid excretion of these groups. But the significant reducing effects on serum and liver lipid levels were shown only in RGO group, and we need to investigate the hypolipidemic effect of this oil by supplementary level and period.

Effects of black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens) oil on cecal microbiota in broilers

  • Among insect species, black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) is a promising ingredient for animal feed as a dietary source. Moreover, BSFL contains a high content of lauric acid (C12:0), which has antimicrobial effects. Therefore, this study evaluated the effect of BSFL oil (BSFLO) as a partial or total replacement of soybean oil (SBO) on the cecal microbiota in broilers. A total of 210 male broiler chickens (Ross 308) at one-day of age were randomly allotted to 3 dietary treatments (10 replicates and 7 birds/group): a basal control diet (CON), the basal diet in which SBO was replaced by 50% (50 BSFLO) or 100% (100 BSFLO) BSFLO. At the end of the study (d 35), 18 birds (6 broilers/treatment) were randomly selected and slaughtered. Samples of cecal digesta were collected to verify their cecal microbiota. Overall, 235,978 gene sequences were generated, and a total of 4,398 operational taxonomic units were identified in the three groups. At the phylum level, Firmicutes was the dominant phyla in all three groups. At the genus level, Faecalibacterium was the dominant genera in all the treatments. There were no significant differences in the relative abundances of all the genera between the BSFLO groups and CON. However, the genus Erysipelatoclostridium was more abundant in the 50 BSFLO group than in the CON (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the substitution of SBO with BSFLO in broiler diets had no negative effect on the cecal microbiota of broilers.

지방 급원을 달리한 식이에 첨가된 CLA가 지방조직과 Stearoyl-Co A Desaturase 1(SCD 1) 발현에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Conjugated Linoleic Acid(CLA) Supplemented to Different Fat Sources on Fat Depositions and Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase l(SCDl) Gene Expression in Mice)

  • This study investigated the effects of conjugated linoleic acid(CLA) on the fat deposition, triglyceride levels and the expression of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1(SCD1) in the livers of male ICR mice that were fed with either soybean oil or beef tallow supplemented with CLA. Mice weighing $25{\sim}30$ g were divided into four groups; soybean oil(SBO), and SBO supplemented with 1% CLA(SBOC), beef tallow(BT) and BT supplemented with 1% CLA(BTC). Each group consisted of 10 mice that were fed the experimental diets for 4 weeks. The experimental diets consisted of 64% carbohydrate, 20% protein, and 16% fat in terms of their contributions to total calories. All other nutrients were identical in the diets. Triglyceride measurements were completed using a kit. Fatty acid compositions were analyzed in the liver using gas chromatography. The levels of SCD1 expression were analyzed by RT-PCR in the liver. No significant differences were found for food intake level, body weight and food efficiency among the experimental groups. However, the weights of epididymal fat pads and plasma triglyceride levels were significantly lower in SBOC and BTC(p<0.05) compared to the SBO and BT groups. These effects were similar in the CLA supplemented groups. The expression level of SCD1 gene and ${\Delta}9$ desaturase index were not significantly different, regardless of the fat used for CLA supplementation. Based on these results, addition of CLA showed decreasing effects on the fat depots weight and the concentration of triglyceride regardless of the fat sources. The SCD1 gene expression and ${\Delta}9$ desaturase index were not influenced by the types of fats with respect to the CLA effects.

Dietary supplementation with Korean pine nut oil decreases body fat accumulation and dysregulation of the appetite-suppressing pathway in the hypothalamus of high-fat diet-induced obese mice

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Korean pine nut oil (PNO) has been reported to suppress appetite by increasing satiety hormone release. However, previous studies have rendered inconsistent results and there is lack of information on whether dietary Korean PNO affects the expression of satiety hormone receptors and hypothalamic neuropeptides. Therefore, our study sought to evaluate the chronic effects of Korean PNO on the long-term regulation of energy balance. MATERIALS/METHODS: Five-week-old male C57BL/6 mice were fed with control diets containing 10% kcal fat from Korean PNO or soybean oil (SBO) (PC or SC) or high-fat diets (HFDs) containing 35% kcal fat from lard and 10% kcal fat from Korean PNO or SBO (PHFD or SHFD) for 12 weeks. The expression of gastrointestinal satiety hormone receptors, hypothalamic neuropeptides, and genes related to intestinal lipid absorption and adipose lipid metabolism was then measured. RESULTS: There was no difference in the daily food intake between PNO- and SBO-fed mice; however, the PC and PHFD groups accumulated 30% and 18% less fat compared to SC and SHFD, respectively. Korean PNO-fed mice exhibited higher messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of Ghsr (ghrelin receptor) and Agrp (agouti-related peptide) (P < 0.05), which are expressed when energy consumption is low to induce appetite as well as the appetitesuppressing neuropeptides Pomc and Cartpt (P = 0.079 and 0.056, respectively). Korean PNO downregulated jejunal Cd36 and epididymal Lpl mRNA expressions, which could suppress intestinal fatty acid absorption and fat storage in white adipose tissue. Consistent with these findings, Korean PNO-fed mice had higher levels of fecal non-esterified fatty acid excretion. Korean PNO also tended to downregulate jejunal Apoa4 and upregulate epididymal Adrb3 mRNA levels, suggesting that PNO may decrease chylomicron synthesis and induce lipolysis. CONCLUSIONS: In summary, Korean PNO attenuated body fat accumulation, and appeared to prevent HFD-induced dysregulation of the hypothalamic appetite-suppressing pathway.

중수로 원전 가상의 mSGTR과 SBO 다중 사건에 대한 MARS-KS 코드 분석 (Analysis on Hypothetical Multiple Events of mSGTR and SBO at CANDU-6 Plants Using MARS-KS Code)

  • This study aims to develop an improved evaluation technology for assessing CANDU-6 safety. For this purpose, the multiple steam generator tube rupture (mSGTR) followed by an unmitigated station blackout (SBO) in a CANDU-6 plant was selected as a hypothetical event scenario and the analysis model to evaluate the plant responses was envisioned into the MARS-KS input model. The model includes logic models for controlling the pressure and inventory of the primary heat transport system (PHTS) decreasing due to the u-tubes' rupture, as well as the main features of PHTS with a simplified model for the horizontal fuel channels, the secondary heat transport system including the shell side of steam generators, feedwater and main steam line, and moderator system. A steady state condition was successfully achieved to confirm the stable convergence of the key parameters. Until the turbine trip, the fuel channels were adequately cooled by forced circulation of coolant and supply of main feedwater. However, due to the continuous reduction of PHTS pressure and inventory, the reactor and turbine were shut down and the thermal-hydraulic behaviors between intact and broken loops got asymmetric. Furthermore, as the conditions of low-flow coolant and high void fraction in the broken loop persisted, leading to degradation of decay heat removal, it was evaluated that the peak cladding temperature (PCT) exceeded the limit criteria for ensuring nuclear fuel integrity. This study is expected to provide the technical bases to the accident management strategy for transient conditions with multiple events.

Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae oil as an alternative fat ingredient to soybean oil in laying hen diets

  • Objective: The objective of this study was to determine whether dietary black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens, HI) larvae oil (HILO) could serve as an alternative fat source to soybean oil (SBO) in laying hen diets. Methods: We randomly assigned 25-week-old Hy-line Brown laying hens (n = 144) to receive (n = 6 hens/group; eight replicates) a control or an experimental diet in which SBO was replaced with 50% (50HILO) or 100% HILO (100HILO). Results: Dietary HILO did not negatively affect body weight or productive performance during the study. The eggs also had similar quality parameters, proximate composition, and cholesterol levels. However, the yolk color index was significantly higher (p<0.01) in the 100HILO than in the other groups. Dietary HILO significantly altered the composition of fatty acids (FAs) in abdominal fat and eggs. Total saturated fatty acids (SFAs) and total polyunsaturated FAs (PUFAs) were significantly increased and decreased in the 50HILO and 100HILO groups, respectively, compared with those in the control group (p<0.001 and p<0.0001, respectively). Specifically, the medium-chain FAs lauric and myristic acids were remarkably increased in the abdominal fat of laying hens fed HILO (p<0.0001), whereas only myristic acid increased in eggs (p<0.0001). Undesirable heavy metal (aluminum, fluorine, arsenic, lead, mercury, and cadmium) concentrations were below permissible limits in eggs. Conclusion: We considered that HILO could be an alternative dietary fat to SBO for laying hens with maintained productive performance and good egg quality.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid의 형성과 식품중의 함량 및 항산화효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Formation, Contents of Foods, and Antioxidative Effect of Conjugated Linoleic Acid)

  • Conjugated linoleic acid(CLA)의 생성과 식품중의 함량 및 유지에 대한 항산화효과를 알아보기 위하여 methyl linoleate(LA)와 대두유(SBO)를 20$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$, 40$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$에서 저장하면서 그의 생성량을 측정하였고 상용되고 있는 시판우유 6종류와 쇠고기, 돼지고기, 닭고기, 그리고 청어, 고등어, 삼치, 꽁치 중의 CLA함량을 측정하였다. 또한 CLA, BHT, tocopherol을 기질 대두유에 첨가하고 40$\pm$ 1$^{\circ}C$에서 저장하고, 상승제로서 citric acid를 같이 첨가하여 60$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$에서 저장하면서 POV를 측정하여 항산화효과를 비교하였으며 또한 이들을 180$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$에서 가열하면서 그의 효과를 동시에 측정한 결과는 다음과 같았다. 1. LA에서의 CLA의 생성은 20$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$에서 저장한 경우, 28일째에 초기량(188ppm)의 약 14배 이상으로 증가되었으며 40$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$에서는 14일까지 생성량이 증가되나 그 이후는 감소되었다. 대두유에서도 20$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$인 때 14일까지 생성량이 높았으며 40$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$인 때는 7일까지 생성량이 증가되나 그 이후 약간씩 감소되어 LA 및 SBO 모두 20$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$인 때에 CLA의 생성 이 좋은 것으로 나타났다. 2. 식물성 기름 중에서 CLA함량은 유채유에 348ppm으로 가장 높았으며 40$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$에서 저장시 면실유의 경우 초기에 292ppm이던 것이 저장 28일째에 1322 ppm으로 증가되고 또한 POV도 10.05 meq/kg oil로 낮아 CLA의 생성이 매우 유효하였다. 대두유는 저장 7일에 767 ppm으로 상당히 큰 증가량을 보인 반면 유채유는 대체적으로 저장시 에 감소되었다. 3. 시판 우유중의 CLA함량은 293~2148 ppm이었으며 제조회사에 따라 크게 차이가 있었고 육류중에서는 돼지고기에 2370ppm으로 높았으며 생선 중에서는 삼치에 1040 ppm으로 높았으며, 삼치를 조림했을 경우에는 2039 ppm으로 증가되었다. 4. 저온 저장시 CLA의 유지에 대한 항산화효과는 대두유에서는 초기 7일에는 tocopherol 보다는 크고 BHT와 거의 유사하였으며, 21일 이후에는 항산화효과가 없고 오히려 산화를 촉진시키는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 CLA의 첨가량이 많을수록 항산화효과는 떨어졌으나 상승제인 citric acid가 공존하면 항산화효과가 BHT나 tocopherol보다 더 높게 나타났다. 옥수수유에서 CLA의 항산화효과는 저장 중 BHT나 tocopherol 보다 항산화효과가 높게 나타나 기질유지의 종류에 따라 차이가 있었다 180$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$에서 유지를 가열하는 경우에는 CLA의 항산화효과가 크게 나타났으며 그 정도는 BHT나 tocopherol과 거의 유사하였고 저온 저장시의 경우 보다 더 높은 항산화효과를 보였다

다양한 지방원의 급여가 육계의 생산성, 도체특성, 분내 미생물 조성 및 혈액특성에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Various Fat Source Feeding on Growth Performance, Carcass Characteristics, Fecal Microflora and Blood Profiles in Broilers)

  • 본 연구는 급이 지방원의 차이가 육계의 생산성, 도체특성, 혈액특성 및 분내 미생물 조성에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 시험을 실시하였다. 사양 시험은 1일령 ROSS 308 768수로 공시하였고, 시험 개시 체중은 39.68 ± 0.14 g으로 32일간 실시하였다. 시험 설계는 1) SBO, basal diet + soybean oil, 2) PF, basal diet + poultry fat, 3) TAL, basal diet + tallow 및 4) LARD, basal diet + lard로 4개 처리구로 나누고 처리당 12반복, 반복당 16수씩 완전 임의 배치하였다. 1-14일령의 생산성에 있어서는 증체량에서 TAL 처리구가 PF 및 LARD 처리구보다 유의적으로 높게 나타났고, 사료섭취량에서 TAL 처리구가 SBO, PF 및 LARD 처리구보다 유의적으로 높게 나타났다. 또한 전체 시험기간동안의 증체량에서 SBO 및 TAL 처리구가 LSRD 처리구보다 유의적으로 높게 나타났다. 혈중 LDL cholesterol 함량은 우지 처리구가 돈지 처리구보다 유의적으로 높게 나타났다. 도체 특성은 가슴육의 적색도에서 PF 및 TAL 처리구가 LARD 처리구보다 유의적으로 낮았다. 그러나 명도 및 황색도에 있어서는 처리구간 유의적인 차이를 나타내지 않았고, 장기 무게에 있어서 또한, 처리구간 유의적인 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 분내 미생물 조성에서도 Lactobacillus 및 Escherichia coli에서 처리구간 유의적인 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 혈중 LDL cholesterol 함량에 있어서 TAL 처리구가 LARD 처리구보다 유의적으로 높게 나타났다. 그러나 혈중 AST, total triglycerides 및 HDL cholesterol 함량에 있어서는 처리구 간 유의적인 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 이상의 결과로부터, 본 시험에서는 육계 사료내 대두유 및 우지 첨가시 증체량을 향상 시키고, 또한 우지 급여시 가슴육의 적색도를 유의적으로 낮춰 주고, 혈중 LDL cholesterol 함량이 증가하는 결과를 나타낸다. 따라서 육계 사료내 식물성 지방원인 대두유 첨가가 증체량을 개선시켜 주고, 혈중 LDL cholesterol이 낮아지는 결과를 가져오는 것으로 판단된다.
