Bacillus subtilis Fermentation for Enhancement of Feed Nutritive Value of Soybean Meal

  • In order to increase the nutritional quality of soybean meal (SBM) as an animal feed, Bacillus subtilis TP6, a previously isolated strain from an Indonesian traditional fermented soybean food, Tempeh, was used as a starter organism for solid-state fermentation. In the pre-treated SBM with water content of 60% (v/w), B. subtilis TP6 was grown to a maximum viable cell number of $3.5{\times}10^9CFU/g$. Compared to control, crude protein in Bacillus fermented SBM was increased by 16%, while raffinose, stachyose, and trypsin inhibitors were reduced by 31, 37, and 90%, respectively. The Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis analysis showed that proteins in the fermented SBM were remarkably hydrolyzed into smaller molecular masses, resulting in a decrease in large sized proteins. Our data suggested that B. subtilis fermentation could increase the nutritive value of SBM through reduction of anti-nutritive factors and improvement of protein quality by hydrolysis of soy protein. In addition, B. subtilis TP6 produced a functional ingredient, poly-${\gamma}$-glutamic acid which has various health benefits.

  • In Korea, the road transport industry is pointed out as a major cause of air pollutants, so management control is needed. Existing studies used only positive input and output variables to measure regional efficiency. However, it is necessary to consider the environmental pollution problem in efficiency analysis. In this study, an undesirable SBM analysis using CO2 was conducted to measure efficiency of domestic regions. In addition, SDM was conducted to examine the ripple effect between domestic regions. As a result of the analysis, the efficiency of the capital area such as Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon was high in the road transport industry. However, the efficiency of the road transportation industry in Daegu and Gangwon was low. In the SDM analysis, it was found that the regional equipment capabilities had a great influence on efficiency. In order to improve efficiency, it is necessary to increase and improve the equipment capacity of the road transport industry.

  • Levitation force of a new magnetic levitation system using a super-conducting bulk magnet(SBM) and a permanent magnet(PM) was numerically calculated. The non-linear J-E relation of a SBM was modeled using a critical state model and iteration method, and demagnetization of a PM was considered using a demagnetization curve of a real PM. The maximum limitation of levitation force was found according to increasing the trapped field in a SBM. Finite element method was used for numerical calculation.

Role of Fermentation in Improving Nutritional Quality of Soybean Meal - A Review

  • Soybean meal (SBM), a commonly used protein source for animal feed, contains anti-nutritional factors such as trypsin inhibitor, phytate, oligosaccharides among others, which limit its utilization. Microbial fermentation using bacteria or fungi has the capability to improve nutritional value of SBM by altering the native composition. Both submerged and solid state fermentation processes can be used for this purpose. Bacterial and fungal fermentations result in degradation of various anti-nutritional factors, an increase in amount of small-sized peptides and improved content of both essential and non-essential amino acids. However, the resulting fermented products vary in levels of nutritional components as the two species used for fermentation differ in their metabolic activities. Compared to SBM, feeding non-ruminants with fermented SBM has several beneficial effects including increased average daily gain, improved growth performance, better protein digestibility, decreased immunological reactivity and undesirable morphological changes like absence of granulated pinocytotic vacuoles.

Ileal Digestibility of Amino Acids in Meat Meal and Soybean Meal Fed to Growing Pigs

  • The objective of this experiment was to determine the concentration and digestibility of crude protein (CP) and amino acid (AA) in meat meal (MM), and to compare these values with the respective values in soybean meal (SBM). Six barrows (initial body weight = $66.9{\pm}3.8kg$) surgically fitted with a T-cannula at the distal ileum were allotted to a replicated $3{\times}3$ balanced Latin square design with 3 diets and 3 periods. Two experimental diets containing test ingredients as the sole source of AA were prepared to estimate the apparent ileal digestibility (AID) for CP and AA by the direct method. An N-free diet was also prepared to estimate basal endogenous losses of CP and AA. All experimental diets contained 5% chromic oxide as an indigestible index. Each period consisted of a 5-d adaptation period and a 2-d of ileal digesta collection period. Ileal digesta samples were collected from 0900 to 1700 on d 6 and 7 of each period. The concentrations of CP, Lys, Met, and Trp in MM and SBM were analyzed to be 64.1, 3.5, 1.1 and 0.6, and 45.6, 2.8, 0.8, and 0.3%, respectively. The AID of all AA except Gly in MM was less (p<0.05) than in SBM. The AID of Lys, Met, and Trp in MM was estimated to be 56.0, 71.7, and 47.1%, respectively. The SID of all AA in MM was less (p<0.05) than in SBM. The SID of Lys, Met, and Trp was 65.1, 79.2, and 78.5%, respectively. In conclusion, the CP and AA contents in MM were greater than those in SBM whereas the ileal digestibility of all AA in MM was less than in SBM.

Partial replacement of soybean meal by white lupine seeds in the diet of dairy cows

  • Objective: An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of partial replacement of soybean meal (SBM) by white lupine seeds (WLS) on milk yield and quality, feed efficiency and rumen fermentation of high-yielding dairy cows. Methods: Thirty multiparous cows of two breeds (20 Holstein and 10 Czech Pied cows) in early mid-lactation received three diets (treatments) in a 3×3 Latin square design with a 28-d period. The dietary treatments were as follows: CON (control total mixed ration with SBM, no WLS), WLS30 (30% of the SBM was replaced, on a dry matter basis, by WLS), and WLS50 (50% of the SBM was replaced by WLS). Results: Feed intake by the cows was not affected (p = 0.331) by the diets. Milk production decreased with increasing proportions of WLS in the diet. Cows fed WLS50 yielded approximately 1 kg/d (p<0.001) less milk than cows fed the CON diet. The proportions of milk fat (p = 0.640), protein (p = 0.507), and lactose (p = 0.709) were not altered by the diet. For milk fat, feeding with WLS50 reduced the proportion of total saturated fatty acids (p<0.001) and increased the proportion of total monounsaturated fatty acids (p<0.001), mainly through oleic acid (p<0.001). No differences were found in feed efficiency, body weight, and blood plasma metabolites between groups. Rumen ammonia-N levels tended (p = 0.087) to increase with increasing proportions of WLS in the diet, whereas no effect of diet on rumen pH was found (p = 0.558). Conclusion: We did not identify the safe range within which raw WLS can efficiently replace SBM in the diet of high-producing dairy cows. In contrast, even partial replacement of SBM by WLS favorably changed the milk fatty acid profile.

수산식품 가공업의 효율성 분석 (An Analysis of Efficiency of Sea Food Manufacturing)

  • This study is to analyze the efficiency of Korean sea food manufacturing using Data Envelopment Analysis. Firstly, based on an output oriented traditional CCR, BCC model, the study estimated the efficiency scores. The average estimates of technical, pure technical, and scale efficiency turned out 0.6517, 0.7184, 0.9074 respectively, which are separated for 50 marine corporations. The 10 DMUs were efficient under CCR model while the 17 DMUs under BCC model. Also, the study suggested that the operating profit of the two output factors should be more increased relatively and averagely from the viewpoint of efficiency improvement. Secondly, super efficiency scores are estimated under super efficiency and SBM model. As a result, it came to be possible to distinguish and rank the efficiency of the efficient DMUs. The highest score was 4.2975 under Super-CCR, was 2.4947 under Super-BCC, was 2.7160 under SBM-Super-CCR, and was 1.5319 under SBM-Super-BCC model. The average estimates of super efficiency were 0.76 and 0.82 under Super-CCR and Super-BCC model respectively, and were 0.61 and 0.67 under SBM-Super-CCR and SBM-Super-BCC model. Finally, the study conducted a rank-sum test, Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test, to find a statistical significance of heterogeneity existing in efficiencies among the sample corporations. The result showed that there was a significant difference in average efficiency between Dried, Salted product manufacturing and Frozen product manufacturing under BCC-Super efficiency model at 10% level of significance. Furthermore, TOBIT model was applied to find out the potential factors that might influence the efficiency, Wilcoxonand the results showed debt and sales cost influenced all of the technical, pure technical, and scale efficiency, while net profit influenced only the technical efficiency.

DEA와 Super-SBM을 이용한 국내 방위산업체 효율성 분석 (Efficiency Analysis of Defense Industry Company Using DEA and Super-SBM)

  • 방위산업은 국가 안보 유지를 위한 기간산업이자 첨단기술이 집약된 미래지향 산업으로써, 방위산업의 연구개발은 무척 중요하다. 우리 정부의 자주국방에 기반을 둔 과감한 정책으로, 국내 방위산업은 양적, 질적으로 많은 성장을 이루었다. 하지만 전문화 및 계열화 제도의 폐지에 따른 경쟁체제의 도입은 국내 방위산업체의 효율성 및 생산성 향상의 필요성이 대두되는 계기가 되었다. 본 연구에서는 DEA와 Super-SBM을 이용하여 국내 방위산업체의 연구개발 효율성을 측정하고자 한다. 이를 위해 한국방위산업진흥회의 '2019 방산업체 경영분석' 데이터를 활용하였으며, 국내 방위산업체의 연구원수 및 투자액을 투입변수로, 매출액을 산출변수로 설정하여 분석을 수행하였다. 방위산업체의 효율성을 분석하기 위해 규모수익불변(CRS)을 가정하는 CCR 모형과 규모수익가변(VRS)을 가정한 BCC 모형을 활용하였으며, 효율적인 업체들 간의 순위를 확인하기 위해 Super-SBM 모형을 사용하여 초효율성을 도출하였으며, 국내 방위산업체는 대체로 비효율적인 모습을 보였다. 본 연구를 통한 국내 방위산업체의 연구개발 효율성을 파악하여 향후 국내 방위산업체의 육성 정책 수립에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.

Evaluating Nutritional Quality of Single Stage- and Two Stage-fermented Soybean Meal

  • This study investigated the nutritional quality of soybean meal (SBM) fermented by Aspergillus ($FSBM_A$) and/or followed by Lactobacillus fermentation ($FSBM_{A+L}$). Both fermented products significantly improved protein utilization of SBM with higher trichloroacetic acid (TCA) soluble true protein content, in vitro protein digestibility and available lysine content, especially in $FSBM_{A+L}$. Moreover, $FSBM_{A+L}$ produced a huge amount of lactic acid resulting in lower pH as compared to the unfermented SBM or soybean protein concentrate (SPC) (p<0.05). $FSBM_A$ and $FSBM_{A+L}$ raised 4.14% and 9.04% of essential amino acids and 5.38% and 9.37% of non-essential amino acids content, respectively. The ${\alpha}$-galactoside linkage oligosaccharides such as raffinose and stachyose content in $FSBM_A$ and $FSBM_{A+L}$ decreased significantly. The results of soluble protein fractions and distribution showed that the ratio of small protein fractions (<16 kDa) were 42.6% and 63.5% for $FSBM_A$ and $FSBM_{A+L}$, respectively, as compared to 7.2% for SBM, where the ratio of large size fractions (>55 kDa, mainly ${\beta}$-conglycinin) decreased to 9.4%, 5.4% and increased to 38.8%, respectively. There were no significant differences in ileal protein digestibility regardless of treatment groups. SPC inclusion in the diet showed a better protein digestibility than the SBM diet. In summary, soybean meal fermented by Aspergillus, especially through the consequent Lactobacillus fermentation, could increase the nutritional value as compared with unfermented SBM and is compatible with SPC.

초효율성 모형을 이용한 지방의료원의 환경요인별 효율성 차이 분석 (Analysis on the Difference in Efficiencies between Environmental Factors of Regional Public Hospitals in Korea using Super-Efficiency Model)

  • 본 연구는 전국지방의료원연합회에서 발간하고 있는 경영평가통계편람에서 2005년부터 2009년까지 지방의료원의 운영실적자료를 이용하여 DEA의 CCR 모형, AP모형, superSBM 모형의 각 효율성을 측정하여 비교 분석하였다. 그리고 환경요인(지역, 종별형태, 운영형태, 교육수련여부, 수요와 공급여건, 의료급여 환자비율)별 superSBM 모형의 효율성의 차이를 확인하기 위하여 Willcoxon- Mann- Whitney 통계량을 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, SuperSBM 모형에서 15%~17.1%, CCR 모형에서 13%~15.5%, AP 모형에서 7%~12.6%의 비효율을 보여 주고 있다. 둘째, 지역, 병원종별 형태, 병원운영형태, 수요와 공급여건, 저소득층의 진료비 비중 등 환경적 요인에 따라 효율성의 차이가 발생하였다. 셋째, 환경요인에 의해 발생되는 비효율을 해소하기 위해서는 병원내부의 독자적인 노력만으로 한계가 있으며 정부와 지방자치단체의 정책과 제도의 개선이 뒷받침되어야 한다.
