  • Recently, many nations are operating and developing Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Also, Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS), which uses the geostationary orbit, is operated presently in order to improve the performance of GNSS. The most widely-used SBAS is Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) of GPS developed by the United States. SBAS uses various algorithms to offer guaranteed accuracy, availability, continuity and integrity to its users. There is algorithm for guarantees the integrity of the satellite. This algorithm calculates the satellite errors, generates the correction and provides it to the users. The satellite orbit errors are calculated in three-dimensional space in this step. The reference placement is crucial for this three-dimensional calculation of satellite orbit errors. The wider the reference placement becomes, the wider LOS vectors spread, so the more the accuracy improves. For the next step, the regional features of the US and Korea need to be analyzed. Korea has a very narrow geographic features compared to the US. Hence, there may be a problem if the three-dimensional space method of satellite orbit error calculation is used without any modification. This paper suggests a method which uses scalar values to calculate satellite orbit errors instead of using three-dimensional space. Also, this paper proposes the feasibility for this method for a narrow area. The suggested method uses the scalar value, which is a projection of orbit errors on the LOS vector between a reference and a satellite. This method confirms the change in errors according to the baseline distance between Korea and America. The difference in the error change is compared to present the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • For the purpose of improving the accuracy of Wide Area Differential GNSS (WA-DGNSS), estimation performance of ionospheric delay error which has a great impact on GPS error sources should be enhanced. This paper applied multi-constellation GNSS which represents GPS in USA, GLONASS in Russia, and Galileo in Europe to WA-DGNSS algorithm in order to improve performance of ionospheric delay estimation. Furthermore, we conducted simulation to analyze ionospheric delay estimation performance in Korean region by increasing the number of reference stations. Consequently, using multi-constellation GNSS to improve performance of ionospheric delay estimation is more effective than increasing the number of reference stations in spite of similar number of measurements which are in use for estimation. We expect this result can contribute to improvement for ionospheric delay estimation performance of single-frequency SBAS (Satellite Based Augmentation System) user.

  • The international maritime organization(IMO) has defined performance requirements for future maritime navigation through IMO resolution A.915(22) in 2001. Many DGPS systems currently providing DGPS services do not meet the performance requirements specified in IMO resolution A.915(22). The use of SBAS is considered as one of the DGPS replacement and supplementary system for coping with the increase in demand performance and providing safe positioning service. In particular, since a large amount of budget is required to rearrange the existing DGPS reference stations, a method which transmits differential corrections generated by using SBAS message has been proposed. In this paper, we compare and analyze the performance of NDGPS which is operated by the National Maritime PNT Office of the ministry of oceans and fisheries(MOF) in Korea and MSAS in Japan. Also, we verify that SBAS, as alternative and complementary system, meets the performance requirement specified in IMO resolution A.915(22).

  • Russia recently began broadcasting the SDCM signal in order to provide SBAS service for the civil aviation in the Russian territory using its own geostationary satellites. The service coverage of the SDCM geostationary satellite, LUCH-5A and LUCH-5B, includes Korea peninsula, where the test signal from the pseudo random number (PRN) 140 is received. This paper shows that the position accuracy at the Chulwon GNSS site is improved to 0.8749 m (horizontal) and 0.9589 mm (vertical) by applying the received SDCM message to the RINEX data. Considering that the SDCM augments both GPS and GLONASS, the performance of multi-constellation SBAS was compared to that of GPS-only SBAS, and APV-I availability was improved by decreasing the protection level about 30 %. From the results, we can expect that the mult-constellation SBAS can contribute to the performance enhancement of the future KASS.

  • According to the ICAO's Global Air Navigation Plan for CNS/ATM - Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance - systems, employing digital technologies, including satellite systems together with various levels of automation, are to be applied in support of a seamless global air traffic management system. For the future navigation, the focus of future implementation efforts can be placed entirely on an expected gradual migration toward GNSS-based navigation, Korea has been considered various options for airspace GNSS augmentation system: GBAS, SBAS and GRAS. This paper discusses current status and future trend of GNSS airspace navigation systems, and presents the results of possible augmentation options and scenarios to analyze system availabilities which could lead to the conclusion of the best program for Korea. The results showed that Korea could have sufficient availabilities from en-route to CAT-I approach with ABAS and GBAS. The study was in cooperated with MITRE, an American research company.

  • SBAS is a satellite based navigation correction system that provides correction information and integrity information of GNSS signal through geostationary satellite based on analysis of GNSS signal in ground station. KASS, a Korean SBAS, is aiming at the APV-1 class SoL service in 2022. Sufficient ground and flight tests must be performed in advance to provide SoL services. However, since KASS, the Korean SBAS, has not yet been added in Korea, specific detailed evaluation items are not presented. EGNOS, which is expected to be the most compatible with KASS and is being serviced after its development, has already been evaluated. In this paper, we analyze the regulations applied to EGNOS construction and analyze the criteria of ground and flight test evaluation items required for flight testing, which is expected to be referenced to the flight inspection process in the future.

  • This paper presents the static and kinematic positioning accuracy by the real-time GPS positioning modes of the low-cost GPS receivers using NTRIP-based augmentation service. For this, acquires both the raw measurements data of the field tests by LEA 6T GPS module of u-blox AG, and correction communication via NTRIP caster with RTKLIB as an open source program for GNSS solution. With computing the positions of the check points and road tracks by six kinds of GPS positioning modes which are Single, SBAS, DGPS, PPP, RTK, and TCP/IP_RTK, compared these results to the reference position of the check points. The position error average and rmse of the static test by GPS L1 RTK surveying showed $N=0.002m{\pm}0.001m$, $E=0.004m{\pm}0.001m$ in horizontal plane, and $h=-0.116m{\pm}0.003m$ in vertical, these results are very closed to the coordinates with the geodetic receiver. Especially, in case of the kinematic test with obstacles located on both sides of road, the computed track with ambiguity fixing showed very similar trajectory considerably from VRS network RTK mode. And also, evaluate and verify the performance of the TCP/IP_RTK mode developed based on TCP/IP protocol.

  • With recent localized heavy rain, the collapsing accident of the cut slopes occur repeatedly every year. The maintenance of the cut slopes is very crucial as the collapsing of cut slopes causes various calamities such as human causalities and sweeping away of the roads. By looking at the study of current situation of the cut slopes, designed for maintenance of cut slopes, the locations of the damaged districts are hard to figure out as they are represented through distance mark and longitude and latitude. In this paper has used NDGPS methods and VRS service through GPS signal corrections that are received by DGPS standard department to correctly analyze the exact location and the shape of the slope. The result of this analysis shows that both methods produce similar shape of the slope. Therefore, these two methods, NDGPS methods and VRS service, can be applied to other analysis of cut slopes in different areas.
