Basic Study on the Characteristics of Wooden Sidewalk Pavement Material using Wood Waste Chip (폐목재 칩을 활용한 목질계 보도포장재의 특성에 대한 기초연구)

  • An experiment was conducted to suggest the road pavement material combining wooden chip crushed from little useful roots and branches from logging sites or wood waste from construction sites with urethane resin. For the specimen, the mass ratio of urethane resin to construction wood waste chip/lumber waster chip was set to three different levels of 0.5, 0.75, and 1.0, which was measured, mixed with mixer, and molded; 7 days after, tensile strength test, elasticity test using golf balls and steel balls, permeability coefficient measurement, and flammability test were executed. As the result, the tensile strength of the specimen at the dry state in the air exhibited the range of 0.2-1.1MPa, and there was no change after 7 days of aging. When submerged in water, however, the strength was partially diminished; the diminishing rate was greater for less urethane resin usage, and therefore it appears desirable to set the mass ratio of resin to the wood waste chip over 0.75 to consider the moisture intrusion by precipitation and such. As the result of elasticity test, the GB and SB coefficients of the specimen using wood waste chips and urethane resin were measured to be low at below 20%, exhibiting excellent elasticity as road pavement material. Also, the permeability coefficient was over 0.5mm/sec for specimens of all combinations, exceeding the standard value required after construction for permeable pavement material, and the flammability of wood-type pavement material was evaluated to have no practical issues.

Effects of Herbal medicines in Pacemaker Potential of Colonic Intestinal Interstitial cells of Cajal in mice (생쥐 대장 카할세포의 자발적 탈분극에서 한약의 효과에 관한 비교연구)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of herbal medicines on pacemaker potentials of large intestinal interstitial Cells of Cajal (ICC) in mice. Methods : We made the ICC culture in large intestine in mice and used the electrophysiological method to record pacemaker potentials. Also we used MTT assay to check cell viability and examined the ICC protein expression by western blot. Results : 1.Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fischer (GF) (50-150 ㎍/ml) induced pacemaker depolarization and decreased frequency with concentration-dependent manners. EC50 is 58.95 ㎍/ml. Angelica gigas (AG) (50-200 ㎍/ml) induced pacemaker depolarization and decreased frequency with concentration-dependent manners. EC50 is 77.22 ㎍/ml. Poncirus fructus (PF) (10-100 ㎍/ml) induced pacemaker depolarization and decreased frequency with concentration-dependent manners. EC50 is 13.39 ㎍/ml. Citrus unshiu S. Marcov. (CU) (10-500 ㎍/ml) induced pacemaker depolarization and decreased frequency with concentration-dependent manners. EC50 is 139.80 ㎍/ml. Gardenia jasminoides J. Ellis (GJ) (100-500 ㎍/ml) induced pacemaker depolarization and decreased frequency with concentration-dependent manners. EC50 is 78.70 ㎍/ml. Coptis chinensis (CC) (100-1000 ㎍/ml) induced pacemaker depolarization and decreased frequency with concentration-dependent manners. EC50 is 138.10 ㎍/ml. Scutellaria baicalensis (SB) (10-100 ㎍/ml) had no effects on pacemaker potentials and decreased frequency with concentration-dependent manners. IC50 is 18.34 ㎍/ml. Atractylodes macrocephala koidzumi (AM) (10-100 ㎍/ml) induced pacemaker hyperpolarizations and decreased frequency with concentration-dependent manners. IC50 is 18.54 ㎍/ml. 2. PF, SB and AM had no effects on cell death in large ICC. 3. PF increased the ANO1 and c-kit protein expression and SB and AM increased the c-kit protein expression in large ICC. Conclusions : These results suggest that PF, SB, and AM are likely to be the optimal combination of herbal medicines that can be used to treat diseases such as gastrointestinal motility disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome.

Photocatalytic Oxidation of 2-Mercaptoethanol to Disulfide using Sb(V)-, P(V)-, and Ge(IV)-porphyrin Complexes

  • Visible-light irradiation of MeCN solution containing di(hydroxo)metallo(tetraphenyl)porphyrin complex $(tppM(OH)_2$: 1a; $M=Sb(V)^+Br^-$, 1b; $M=P(V)^+Cl^-$, 1c; M=Ge(IV)) and 2-mercaptoethanol (2-ME) as a substrate under aerated condition gave bis(2-hydroxyethyl)disulfide (2-HEDS) as an oxidative product of 2-ME. It is indicated that the oxidation of 2-ME should proceed with a photocatalytic process by 1, because the turn over number (TON) for the formation of 2-HEDS was over unit. The TON was determined to be 642 as a maximum value when 1a was used as a sensitizer. The formation of 2-HDES was extremely slow under argon atmosphere. The fluorescence of 1 was not quenched by 2-ME at all, and the free energy change (${\Delta}G$) with electron transfer (ET) from 2-ME to excited triplet state of $1(^31^*)$ was estimated as a negative value. The quenching rate constant ($k_r$) of $^31^*$ by 2-ME, obtained by the kinetics for the formation of 2-HEDS, strongly depends on ${\Delta}G$. These findings indicate that 1-sensitized oxidation was initiated by photoinduced ET from 2-ME to $^31^*$ to generate both radical cation of 2-ME ($2-ME^{+\bulle}$) and porphyrin radical anion ($1^{-\bulle}$), resulting that the formation of 2-HEDS can be proceeded by the dimerization of $2-ME^{+\bulle}$, and through a catalytic cycle due to returning to 1 by the ET from $1^{-\bulle}$ to molecular oxygen.

'거듭'이라는 단어의 의미가 주는 무게는 남다르다. 남북화해 무드에 편승해 백두산과 한라산에서 남북동시 3원 생방송을 위시해 방송의 날(매년 9월 3일)을 기념해 KBS와 MBC가 디지털 방송을 시작한 것이 그것이다. 이들 양사보다 한발 앞선 SBS는 2000년 8월 31일부터 디지털 시험 방송을 시작함에 따라 지상파 3사는 모두 디지털 방송시대에 돌입하게 되었다. 이들 지상파 방송 3사는 디지털 방송을 위해 1999년 1월부터 장비도입 등 준비작업에 박차를 가한 결과라 시청자는 물론 방송 업계와 콘텐츠 관련 업계는 모두 새로운 디지털 콘텐츠 시대를 실감하고 그 준비에 하루 24시간이 늦가을 하루해 만큼 짧게 느끼고 있다.

Electrical and Piezoelectric Properties of PbLa(Mn,SbTi)$O_3$ceramics as a function of $MnO_2$$_2$addition ($MnO_2$첨가에 따른 PbLa(Mn,SbTi)$O_3$세라믹스의 유전 및 압전특성)

  • The structural, piezoelectric and dynamic range characteristics of modified PbTi $O_3$ceramics were investigated as a function of Mn $O_2$addition. With the increase of Mn $O_2$addition, Curie temperature was decreased. As the increase of Mn $O_2$addition, mechanical quality factor ( $Q_{mt3}$) in the third over tone thickness mode was increased. Dynamic range in the third over tone thickness mode was also increased with the increase of Mn $O_2$addition. The composition ceramics added to 0.075wt% Mn $O_2$showed the best properties for SMD type resonator using third over tone thickness vibration in terms of high Curie temperature more than 31$0^{\circ}C$ and dynamic range of 49.38dB.B.

Orexin-A inhibits capsaicin-induced changes in cyclooxygenase-2 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression in trigeminal nucleus caudalis of rats

  • Background: The trigeminal nucleus caudalis (Vc) is a primary central site for trigeminal transmitting. Noxious stimulation of the trigeminal nociceptors alters the central synaptic releases and neural expression of some inflammatory and trophic agents. Orexin-A and the orexin 1 receptor (OX1R) are expressed in pain pathways including trigeminal pain transmission. However, the the mechanism(s) underling orexin-A effects on trigeminal pain modulation have not been fully clarified. Methods: Trigeminal pain was induced by subcutaneous injection of capsaicin in the upper lip in rats. The effect of trigeminal pain on cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression in the Vc of animals was determined by immunofluorescence. Subsequently, OX1R agonist (orexin-A) and antagonist (SB-334867-A) was administrated in the Vc to investigate the possible roles of the Vc OX1R on changes in COX-2 and BDNF levels following pain induction. Results: The data indicated an increase in COX-2 and decrease in BDNF immuno-reactivity in the Vc of capsaicin, and capsaicin- pretreated with SB-334867-A (80 nM), groups of rat. However, the effect of capsaicin on COX-2 and BDNF expressions was reversed by a Vc microinjection of orexin-A (100 pM). Conclusions: Overall, the present data reveals that orexin-A can attenuate capsaicin-induced trigeminal pain through the modulation of pain effects on COX-2 and BDNF expressions in the Vc of rats.

  • We are made up to the variation of the structure modeling of the stratum corneum by the skin on the hydration. The given skin structure is consist of the control level of the intercellular route and transcellular route, and is confirmed to the variation of the modeling for algorithm. Hydration condition is consisted to modeling by the size, form and combination, that skin impedance is appeared to result the value of measurement by the several layer such as forms of ${\xi}-R-SC-RH$, ${\xi}-R-SL-RH$, ${\xi}-R-SG-RH$, ${\xi}-R-SS-RH$ and ${\xi}-R-SB-RH$. Hydration condition is showed to the alteration difference value of S-Corneum, S-Lucidum, S-Granulosum, S-Spinosum and S-Basale. And, composition condition was constructed with the alteration modeling that was established to separate the division parts for conversion system. We will be possible to progress the improvement effectiveness of the skin and to consist of the continuous hydration control system for functional on the skin. Epidemiologic Analysis of Burns in Military Hospital

  • Purpose: We accessed epidemioloy of 908 acute burns (7 years) in the military, of injuries and propose proper educational programs to suit community. Methods: We surveyed burn demographics, circumstances of injuries, size, result of treatment. Results: The mean age was 20.6 years. The flame burns (FB) (325, 35.8%) were most common, followed scald (SB) (305, 33.6%), contact (CB) (219, 24.1%), electric (EB) (45, 5.0%) and chemical burns (ChB) (14, 1.5%). The more occurred during winter (29.7%). SB had mean 3.9% total body surface area (TBSA). The 251 (82.3%) had superficial burns by spillage of hot water/food on lower limbs (45.6%), feet (33.8%) in summer (34.8%), treated with simple dressing (92.8%). Morbidity rate was 5.6%; post traumatic stress disease (PTSD) (0.7%). FB had large wound (9.3% TBSA). The 209 (64.3%) had superficial burns by ignition to flammable oils (31.7%) and bomb powders (29.2%) on head/neck (60.3%), hands (58.6%) in summer (31.7%), autumn (30.2%). They underwent simple dressing (83.4%) and skin graft (16.0%). Morbidity rate was 18.8%; PTSD (10.5%), inhalation injuries (4.0%), corneal injury (3.7%), amputations (0.9%), and mortality rate (1.2%). CB had small (1.1% TBSA), deep burns (78.5%) by hotpack (80.4%) on lower limbs (80.4%). The more (59.8%) underwent skin graft. EB had 6.8% TBSA. The 29 (64.4%) had superficial burns by touching to high tension cable (71.1%) on hand (71.1%), upper limbs (24.4%) in autumn (46.8%). They underwent simple dressing (71.1%) and skin graft (24.4%). They showed high morbidity rate (40.0%); loss of consciousness (13.3%), nerve injuries (11.1%), neuropathy (8.9%), amputations (2.2%), and mortality rate (2.2%). Conclusions: The cook should wear apron over the boots during work. The lighter or smoking should be strictly prohibited during work with flammable liquids or bomb powders. Don't directly apply hotpack to skin for a long time. Use insulating glove during electric work. Keep to the basic can prevent severe injury and proper education is important.

Night Eating and Nutrient Intake Status according to Residence Type in University Students (일부 대학생의 거주형태에 따른 야식 및 영양소 섭취 상태)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate night time eating habits, dietary habits, and nutrient intake in university students according to residence type. A survey was conducted by administering questionnaires to 664 students. Questionnaire interview and 24-h dietary recall were conducted. Subjects were divided into three groups according to residence type: dormitory boarding (DB group, N=313), self-boarding (SB group, N=246), and living with parents (LWP group, N=105). Average ages in the DB, SB, and LWP groups were 21.3, 22.2, and 22.1 years, respectively. There were no significant differences in body mass index between the three groups. In total, 77.3% of students regularly ate night time snacks. The proportion of students who reported night time eating was 84.0% in the DB group, 73.6% in the SB group, and 65.7% in the LWP group (P<0.001). In terms of food types consumed during night time eating, the DB group showed a significantly higher rate of consumption of fried chicken and flour-based foods than the SB and LWP groups, whereas the SB group showed a significantly higher rate of consumption of alcohol beverages than the DB and LWP groups. Energy, carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, and mineral intakes were significantly higher in the DB group than in the SB and LWP groups. In addition, intake of cholesterol per 1,000 kcal was significantly higher in the DB group than in the SB and LWP groups. Thus, SB and DB students seemed to have more night time eating problems than LWP students. Accordingly, nutritional education is needed to support the development of healthier eating habits, in particular, night time eating habits, among students living in dormitories and in self-boarding situations.

A Study on the Effects of Flame Retardants in Unsaturated Isophthalic Acid Polyester Resin (불포화 이소프탈산 폴리에스터 수지의 난연제 첨가 효과 연구)

  • In this study, the thermal improvement of an isophthalic acid polyester resin by the incorporation of flame retardants has been investigated. Aluminium hydroxide, antimony oxide and alumina powder were used to formulate the flame retardant systems. The improvement of an isophthalic resin by incorporating aluminium hydroxide is dramatic(burning rate and smoke emission are reduced), although the mechanical property is decreased significantly. The addition of small amount(2.5 phr) of antimony oxide produces high char yield(31%) which acts as a protective layer on the surface of the resin.
