  • Most of the statistical packages being used in Korea, such as SAS or SPSS, are imported from foreign countries. Since these package are written in English, it is not easy for Korean to learn the statistical packages. Also, most of the users except statistician use these expensive packages only to draw pictures and to make tables. We introduce a Korean statistical package which can be used easily for general public.

  • For lab statistics the statistical package SAS is usually used in PC environment. But most Universities in Korea have bought 'Academic Initiative Package chair licence', which allows to install SAS to student lab PCs only. Most students are hardly able to afford to purchase a licence for use of SAS in their PCs at home or other places than school. It would be very convenient to have a web-based SAS system, physically located inside a campus, which university students can use through internet. In this paper we report the web-based SAS system implemented for the lab purpose of Yeungnam University using SAS/Intrnet module. We overcome some Server-Client environmental difficulties not allowing use of the SAS command 'infile' by implementing modules with PHP language. In the system, users can see and execute some basic SAS sample codes by clicking buttons, which makes students feel comfy in SAS programming.

  • In this paper, we developed the web content of statistical analysis using statistical package and Active Server Page (ASP). A statistical package is very difficult to learn and use for non-statisticians, however, non-statisticians want to do analyze the data without learning statistical packages such as SAS, S-plus, and R. Therefore, we developed the web based statistical analysis contents using S-plus which is the popular statistical package and ASP. In real application, we developed the web content for various statistical analyses such as exploratory data analysis, analysis of variance, and time series on the web using water quality data. The developed statistical analysis web content is very useful for non-statisticians such as public service person and researcher. Consequently, combining a web based contents with a statistical package, the users can access the site quickly and analyze data easily.

  • The Web log has caught much attraction for tracing of customer activity. So many researches have been carried on it. As a result, Web log analysis solutions has been developed and launched lately. It has been in the spotlight to the website administrators and people in practical marketing business. In this paper, we made an analysis on the various behavior patterns of customers in cooperation with SAS/AF and SCL modules, based on development of GUI from SAS package for disposal of statistical data.

  • In this paper we propose a poll system n the internet. This system expects to increase the confidence of the internet poll results by sampling theory(proportional allocation). This system provides a cross-tale and result of hypothesis test which plays an important role for decision making. These results do offer a few statistical packages(such as SAS, SPSS) in the world wide web.

Analysis of various statistical techniques used in the articles published during last 19 years in The Journal of Korean Acupuncture & Moxibusition Society (침구학회지 논문에 응용된 통계방식에 관한 연구 -1984 창간호부터 2002년 19권 6호까지 19년간-)

  • This study was carried out to investigate what kinds of statistical techniques have been used to analyze data from oriental medicine research, For study, 551 original articles which used statistical techniques in their data analysis were selected form the articles published in The journal of Korean Acupuncture & Moxibustion Society(JKAMS) between 1984 to 2002. among them, 122 articles used descriptive statistics while 429 articles used inferential statistics for data analysis. For that 429 articles, t-test (189 articles), analysis fo variance (111 articles), chi-square test (14 articles), correlation (10 articles), regression analysis (4 articles), factor analysis(5 articles), or nonparametric test (23 articles) were chose to analyze the data. Nonparametric approach has substantial power in case data do not meet the assumption of normality. This method is not only easy to use ut also provides measures of the statistical variation of nominal and ordinal scale. This study shows that more and more recent papers use nonparametric test compared to the old articles. nine different statistical software or packages (SAS, SPSS, Statview, Minitab, Sigma plot, ISP, Graphpad prism, Excel, Access) have been used in the articles published JKMAS. High level statistical techniques such as SAS, SPSS, and Statview are user friendly and used most for acupuncture and Moxibustion research. Including tables and plots in an article facilitates understanding family process data from a descriptive standpoint, minimized erroneous statistical conclusions, and clarifies theoretically important relationships among variables. Table and plots have been used 500 and 233 articles, respectively. A computer procedure is proposed and illustrated with statistical packages using SAS, SPSS, Statview and ISP.

  • Since cluster analysis encompasses many diverse techniques for discovering structure within complex bodies of data, it has been employed as an effective tool in scientific inquiry. Recent works on cluster analysis softwares carried out by SAS, SPSS, S-PLUS and BMDP are briefly summarized and investigated in this paper. The inferred statistical package for windows executing a nay for data analysis in modern statistical techniques has several merits superior to other packages. Especially, S-PLUS can be designed and tried out much faster than other statistical packages. S-PLUS provides a graphic which is interactive, informative, flexible ways of looking at data. Also, if a statistical computation time is long and programs are complex, these can be shorten by providing interfaces to the UNIX systems (or C, Fortran).

  • Background and Purpose : The purpose of this study was done to investigate what kinds of statistical techniques have been used to analyze data from oriental medicine research Methods : 135 original articles which used statistical techniques in their data analysis were selected from the articles published in The Journal of Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine(JKIOM) between 1995 to 2007. Results : Among 135 articles, 59 articles used descriptive statistics while 76 articles used inferential statistics for data analysis. For that 76 articles, two-sample t-test(33 articles), analysis of variance(29 articles), regression(9 articles), chi-square test(5 articles), nonparametic test(4 articles), Fisher's exact test(3 articles), and other test(9 articles) were chosen to analyze the data. SAS and SPSS statistical softwares(82.50%) were mostly used to analyze the data. Nonparametic tests were used to 4 articles(6.97%) of 67 articles and parametic tests were used to 63 articles(93.03%) of 67 articles. Among 29 articles used analysis of variance, duncan(8 articles), dunnet(4 articles), bonferroni(4 articles), turkey(3 articles), scheff(1 article) were used to do multiple comparison. 9 articles did not carry out the multiple comparison. Conclusions : It was found that the frequencies of statistical package used and statistical analysis used were not much by now. High level statistical analyses were not used most for oriental medicine research.
