Five eastern great egrets with a history of ataxia, wry neck, and wet feathers were submitted to the Veterinary Diagnostic Center for pathologic examination. Slightly enlarged livers with diffuse white-grayish nodules were observed. Microscopically, the hepatic and lung parenchyma contained granulomatous lesions consisting of central necrosis. Some hearts showed myofiber necrosis with infiltration of histiocytes and heterophils. Partial 16SrRNA and gyrB gene sequences of all isolates showed high similarities (99-100%) to those of Salmonella (S.) enterica subsp. enterica. Based on pathological and molecular biological results, S. enterica subsp. enterica systemic infections were diagnosed in eastern great egrets of Korea.

The purpose of this study is to examine temporal structures of English words beginning with an /s/ plus stop sequence through production experiments with native speakers of Korean learning English and native speakers of English. According to the results of our production experiment, both a beginner and an advanced group of Korean English learners produced /s/ shorter than a following stop, while the opposite pattern was observed in English native speakers' production. An advanced group of Korean English learners were good at producing a stop after /s/ as unaspirated, but their production of a stop following /s/ was different from English native speakers' production in that the closure duration of the stop was much longer.

Pressure drops and friction factors in square channels with twisted tape inserts plus axial interrupted ribs are investigated. Tests are performed for Reynolds numbers ranging from 8,900 to 29,000. The rib height-to-channel hydraulic diameter, $e/D_h$, is kept at 0.057 and test section length-to-hydraulic diameter, $L/D_h$ is 30. The pressure drops and friction factor values are enhanced with axial interrupted ribs and twisted tape inserts. Square channels with twisted tape inserts plus axial interrupted ribs show the greatest pressure loss penalty in the present work. Friction factor data obtained for the square channel with twisted tape inserts plus axial interrupted ribs are less than those in the past publications for circular tubes with axial interrupted ribs and twisted tape inserts.

Acetaminophen (APAP) overdose can cause hepatotoxicity by inducing mitochondrial damage and subsequent necrosis in hepatocytes. Sirtuin2 (Sirt2) is an $NAD^+$-dependent deacetylase that regulates several biological processes, including hepatic gluconeogenesis, as well as inflammatory pathways. We show that APAP decreases the expression of Sirt2. Moreover, the ablation of Sirt2 attenuates APAP-induced liver injuries, such as oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage in hepatocytes. We found that Sirt2 deficiency alleviates the APAP-mediated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and phosphorylation of the p70 ribosomal S6 kinase 1 (S6K1). Moreover, Sirt2 interacts with and deacetylates S6K1, followed by S6K1 phosphorylation induction. This study elucidates the molecular mechanisms underlying the protective role of Sirt2 inactivation in APAP-induced liver injuries.

[parce que le coefficient $conr{\acute{e}}ratif$ ayant rapponts au tour de poitrine (r=0.512) est plus haut que celui qui est relatif a la taille (r=0.436).

This study suggests an optical method to measure cardinal of gait (step width, step length, and stride length) with position sensitive detector (PSD). The effect of reflector’s shape (flat and cylinder) on the PSD output voltage was examined for the application of the suggested system to real situations with a curved shape reflector (e.g. shoes). Various mathematical models were evaluated to find the optimal equation for the distance measurement. Considering the effect of shape on detected signal, the inverse polynomial model was developed. The suggested method is simple to operate, low in cost, small in size, and can evaluate gait parameters in real time. This method is expected to be useful in the field of rehabilitation and sport science

Purpose: Reliability prediction standards consider environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity and vibration in order to predict the reliability of the electronics components. There are many types of standards, and each standard has a different failure rate prediction model, and requires different environmental conditions. The purpose of this study is to make a sensitivity analysis by changing the temperature which is one of the environmental conditions. By observing the relation between the temperature and the failure rate, we perform the sensitivity analysis for standards including MIL-HDBK-217F, RiAC-HDBK-217Plus and FIDES. Methods: we establish environmental conditions in accordance with maneuver weapon systems's OMS/MP and mission scenarios then predict the reliability using MIL-HDBK-217F, RiAC-HDBK-217Plus and FIDES through the case of DC-DC Converter. Conclusion: Reliability prediction standards show different sensitivities of their failure rates with respect to the changing temperatures.

We investigated whether Bacillus spp., newly isolated from Korean traditional food resources, influence the resistance of hosts to foodborne pathogens, by using Caenorhabditis elegans as a surrogate host model. Initially, we selected 20 Bacillus spp. that possess antimicrobial activity against various foodborne pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus. Among the selected strains, six strains of Bacillus spp. used in preconditioning significantly prolonged the survival of nematodes exposed to S. aureus. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing, all six strains were identified as B. licheniformis. Our findings suggest that preconditioning with B. licheniformis may modulate the host defense response against S. aureus.

도심지에서 폭약을 사용한 굴착공법은 진동 소음 비산 등으로 인한 안전상의 문제로 사용상 많은 제약이 따르고 있다 이러한 이유로 암파쇄굴착공법 (건교부, 2003)에 주로 쓰이는 FINECKER Plus(미진동파쇄기)의 사용이 점차 늘어나고 있다. 따라서 본 사례연구에서는 도심지 현장에서 진동을 제어하기 위해 FINECKER Plus를 적용하고, 신제품 360g 1본(本)과 기존제품 180g 2본(本)의 비교시험과 함께 무진동공법과 병행하여 시공성을 비교하였다. 신제품 360g의 파쇄효율 및 소음 진동수준에서는 대등한 정도로, 작업시간이 32% 감소하여 시공성 면에서는 뛰어난 결과를 얻었다 또한, FINECKER Plus의 굴착량은 $64.2m^3/$일로 무진동공법에 비해 7.7배 정도의 뛰어난 시공성을 나타내었다
