  • Mac OS X is the Computer Operating System that develop in Apple Inc. Mac OS X is the successor to Mac OS 9 Version which had been Apple's primary operating system since 1984. Recently, Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) has been manufactured and is distributed to user. Apple's Mac OS X Operating System is occupying about 10% in the world Operating System market share. But, Forensic tools that is utilized on digital forensic investigation can not forensic analysis about Mac OS X properly. To do forensic investigation about Mac OS X, information connected with user's action and trace can become important digital evidence in Operating System. This paper presents way about user trace data acquisition methodology in Mac OS X.

  • In this paper, we investigate the parameters of the IEEE 802.11e MAC protocol, CWmin and AIFS, in terms of their capability of QoS control. The delay and the bandwidth performances are selected as the QoS medics to examine the characteristics of those parameters. A policy on MAC parameters usage, thereby, is proposed. We regard the MAC-level traffic classification as the differentiation in the channel accessibility, and thus the delay differentiation is referred to a main issue of the class-level QoS control. Realizing the tight relationship between the delay performance and the parameter AIFS, we derive an analytical expression of their relationship through an analysis of the MAC mechanism. Various simulations are examined which show the validity of our assertions, and a policy on the parameters usage is proposed based on those observations.

  • Wireless sensor networks consist of sensor nodes which are expected to be battery-powered and are hard to replace or recharge. Thus, reducing the energy consumption of sensor nodes is an important design consideration in wireless sensor networks. For the implementation of an energy-efficient MAC protocol, a Sensor-MAC based on the IEEE 802.11 protocol, which has energy efficient scheduling, has been proposed. In this paper, we propose a Dynamic S-MAC that adapts dynamically to the network-traffic state. The dynamic S-MAC protocol improves the energy consumption of the S-MAC by changing the frame length according to the network-traffic state. Using an NS-2 Simulator, we compare the performance of the Dynamic S-MAC with that of the S-MAC protocol.

  • Berkley Media Access Control (B-MAC) protocol is one of the well-known MAC protocols, which uses adaptive preamble sampling scheme and is designed for wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this paper, we are reviewed about security vulnerability in B-MAC, and analyzed the power which is consumed at each stage of B-MAC protocol according to vulnerability of denial of sleep(DoS) and replay problem. From our analytical results, it can be considered the need of power efficient authentication scheme which provides the reliability, efficiency, and security for a general B-MAC communication. This is the case study of possible DoS vulnerability and its power consumption in B-MAC.

  • In this paper, we present a QoS-aware MAC protocol (QA-MAC) for cluster based wireless sensor networks (WSNs). QA-MAC is a TDMA-based scheduling protocol that minimizes the energy consumption in multi-hop WSNs and provides Quality of Service (QoS). A dynamic scheduling algorithm according to the number of member nodes, node traffics, and traffic priorities is suggested. The selected cluster head allocates time slots for all member nodes in the first TDMA schedule period of each round. During the second schedule period in each round, the cluster head makes a schedule for all data transmission. The proposed QA-MAC (QoS-Aware MAC) could save energy, reduce transmission delay, and support QoS.

  • In this paper, we propose an energy efficient and multimedia traffic friendly MAC protocol (EEMF-MAC) that controls sender's wakeup period based on the data packet's transmission urgency and the receiver's wakeup periods based on the received data packet traffic loads. The protocol is useful for applications such as object tracking, real time data gathering, in which priority-based packet transmission is required. The basic idea of EEMF-MAC is that it uses the priority concept with transmission urgency of sender's data packet to reduce the transmission delay of the urgent data and it also uses duty cycling technique in order to achieve energy efficiency. EEMF-MAC showed a better performance in energy efficiency and packet transmission delay compared to existing protocols, RI-MAC and EE-RI-MAC.

  • In this paper, an efficient technique for enhancing the QoS of multimedia service for an WiMedia network applying distributed cooperative medium access (D-MAC) protocol is proposed. D-MAC protocol has been proposed to support high-rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (HR-WPANs) by the WiMedia Alliance. Unlike the centralized IEEE 802.15.3 MAC, the D-MAC UWB specified by WiMedia supports all devices to be self-organized and removes the SOP (Simultaneous Operating Piconet) problem, i.e., packet collisions between overlapped piconets in the centralized IEEE 802.15.3 MAC. However the WiMedia D-MAC can't prevent reduce the throughput degradation occurred by mobile nodes with low data rate. Therefore, a distributed cooperative MAC protocol for multi-hop UWB network is proposed in this paper. The proposed technique can intelligently select the transmission path with higher data rate to provide real-time multimedia services with minimum delay, thus enhances QoS of multimedia service.

  • In these days, wireless data services are becoming ubiquitous in our daily life because they offers several fundamental benefits including user mobility, rapid installation, flexibility, and scalability. Moreover, the requests for various multimedia services and the Quality of Service (QoS) support have been one of key issues in wireless data communications. Therefore the research relative to Medium Access Control (MAC) has been progressing rapidly. Especially a number of QoS-aware MAC schemes have been introduced to extend the legacy IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol which has not guaranteed any service differentiation. However, none of those schemes fulfill both QoS features and channel efficiency although these support the service differentiation based on priority. Therefore this paper studies a novel MAC scheme, referred to as Enhanced Distributed Coordination Function with Network Adaptation (EDCF-NA), for enhancements of both QoS and medium efficiency. It uses a smart factor denoted by ACK rate and Network Load Threshold (TH). In this paper, we study how the value of TH has effect on MAC performance and how the use of optimal TH pair improves the overall MAC performance in terms of the QoS, channel utilization, collision rate, and fairness. In addition, we evaluate and compare both the performance of EDCF-NA depending on several pairs of TH and the achievement of various MAC protocols through simulations by using Network Simulator-2 (NS-2).
