  • During the past few years, design of experiments (DOE) has been gaining acceptance in the telecommunications research community as a mean for designing and analyzing experiments economically and efficiently. In addition, the need for introducing a systematic robust design methodology (i.e., one of the most popular DOE methodologies) to network simulations has been increasing. In this paper, we present an architecture of voice over IP (VoIP) application and the E-Model for calculating the perceived quality of service (QoS). Then, we apply the Taguchi robust design methodology to optimize the perceived QoS of VoIP application, and describe the detailed step-by-step procedures. We have used ns-2 simulator to collect experimental data in which the SN ratio, a robustness measure, is analyzed to determine an optimal design condition. The analysis shows that "initial delay time in playout buffer" is a major control factor for ensuring robust behaviors of the perceived QoS of VoIP. Finally, we verify the proposed optimal design condition using a confirmation experiment.

  • In this study, WET (whole effluent toxicity) test with Skeletonema costatum, Tigriopus japonicus and Paralichthys olivaceus and ERA (environmental risk assessment) were conducted to assess the unacceptable effect on marine ecosystem by emitting the treated discharge water from 'ARA Plasma BWTS' BWMS (ballast water management system) using filtration, Plasma and MPUV module. 34 psu treated discharge water from ARA Plasma BWTS shown slight chronic toxicity effect on the P. olivaceus ($7d-LC_{50}{\Rightarrow}100.00%$ treated discharge water, $7d-LC_{25}{\Rightarrow}85.15%$ treated discharge water). Bromobenzene, chlorobenzene and 4-chlorotoluene in 34 psu treated discharge water from ARA Plasma BWTS were higher than in the background original content of seawater. The PECs (predictive environmental concentrations) of bromobenzene, chlorobenzene and 4-chlorotoluene calculated by MAMPEC (marine antifoulant model to predict environmental concentrations) program (ver. 3.0) were 3.34E-03, 2.10E-03 and 1.73E-03 ${\mu}g\;L^{-1}$, respectively and PNECs (predicted no effect concentrations) of them were 1.6, 0.5 and 1.9 ${\mu}g\;L^{-1}$. The PEC/PNEC ratio of bromobenzene, chlorobenzene and 4-chlorotoluene did not exceed one and 3 substances did not consider as persistence, bioaccumulative and toxic. Therefore, it was suggested that treated discharge water from ARA Plasma BWTS did not pose unacceptable effect on marine ecosystem.

  • The Korean government continuously increases the R&D investment in order to pursue an economic growth through technological innovation. Hence, the intensity of governmental R&D has increased rapidly. However, the whole amount of the R&D investment is still small compared to developed countries. And the type of R&D policies is more and more changing from the catch-up model to the technology-driven model. Therefore, there is a growing interest in the efficiency of public R&D investment. Hence, many studies on the efficiency of R&D investment have been researched. This study estimated the efficiency of governmental R&D programs considering the technological outcomes, e.g. theses, patents and so on, using DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) with data of S&T investment and outcomes from NTIS(National S&D Information Service). In addition, we used the Mann-Whitney Test to investigate the characteristics of governmental R&D investment.

  • This paper proposes QoS Model which has tested and analyzed the capabilities of provisioning multimedia service in high speed Internet environment. We have tested quality measurement test for VoIP/MoIP, VoD, IPTV services and analyzed the level of QoS and QoS degradation by constructing test laboratory consisted of 46 subscribers which provided by 3 telecom operators. Besides, We propose QoS Model to apply for BcN application based on analysis result and prove proposed model by constructing test lab in KOREN environment. It is expected that telecom will use this results as a valuable information to construct All-IP network based on NGN(NGN:Next Generation Network). This paper proposes QoS Model which has tested and analyzed the capabilities of provisioning multimedia service in high speed Internet environment. • In this study, two magnetic actuator models are chosen to interpret dynamic characteristics. First model has no permanent magnet, on the contrary second has magnet that hold plunger to keep steady state. Both models are dynamically analyzed according to input current, and also compared with spending time and magnetic force at that moving is finished.

  • A Navier-stokes based finite volume method has been developed to analyze an incompressible, steady state, turbulent wall-jet flow. The standard k-e model, the RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model and their nonlinear counterparts are adopted as a closure relationship. Comparison with the experimental data shows that a linear ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model performs satisfatorily for two-dimensional wall-jet flows. However, as the flow becomes three dimensional, the linear model fails to predict the spanwise jet growth accurately and the nonlinear model needs to be adopted to capture three-dimensional flow characteristics.

  • A comprehensive mathematical model was developed for this study to estimate on-site and off-site GHG emissions from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The model was applied to three different hybrid WWTPs (S-WWTP, J-WWTP, and T-WWTP) including anaerobic, anoxic, and aerobic process, located in Seoul City, South Korea. Overall on-site and off-site GHG emissions from S-WWTP, J-WWTP, and T-WWTP were $305,253kgCO_2e/d$, $282,682kgCO_2e/d$, and $117,942kgCO_2e/d$, respectively. WWTP treating higher amounts of wastewater produced more on-site and off-site GHG emissions. On average, the percentage contribution of on-site and off-site emissions was 3.03% and 96.97%. The highest amount of on-site GHG emissions was generated from anoxic process and the primary on-site GHG was nitrous oxide ($N_2O$). Off-site GHG emissions related to electricity consumption for unit operation was much higher than that related to production of chemicals for on-site usage. Recovery and reuse of biogas significantly reduced the total GHG emissions from WWTPs. The results obtained from this study can provide basic knowledge to understand the source and amount of GHG emissions from WWTPs and strategies to establish lower GHG emitting WWTPs.

  • Three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationships (3D-QSARs) models between the substituents with changing groups ($R_1$ & $R_2$) of 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol (4-HBA) derivatives as substrate molecule and their inhibitory activities against tyrosinase were derived and discussed quantitatively. The optimized CoMSIA FF model showed the best predictability and fitness ($r^2$ = 0.858 & $q^2$ = 0.951). The contour maps of the optimized CoMSIA FF model showed that, the inhibitory activities of the analogues against tyrosinase were expected to increase when hydrophobic (Hy) favor, negative charge (E) favor, steric (S) disfavor and hydrogen bond donor (HD) disfavor groups were substituted at the $R_2$ position. When the hydrogen bond donor (HD) favor groups were substituted at the $R_1$ position, it is predicted that the substituents will be able to increase the inhibitory activity.
