DoS Attack Control Design of IoT System for 5G Era

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) is a form of the emerging 4th industry in the 5G era. IoT is expected to develop naturally in our daily life in the 5G era in which high-speed communication will be completed. Along with the rise of IoT, concerns about security and malicious attacks are also increasing. This paper examines DoS attacks, which are one of the representative security threats of IoT and proposes a local detection and blocking system that are suitable for response to such attacks. First, systems of the LoRaWAN type, which are most actively researched in the IoT system field and DoS attacks that can occur in such systems were examined. Then, the inverse order tree algorithm using regional characteristics was designed as a cluster analysis form. Finally, a system capable of defending denial-of-service attacks in the 5G IoT system using local detection and blocking with the Euclidean distance was designed.

  • Time out-medium access control (T-MAC) protocol is one of the well-known MAC protocols designed for wireless sensor networks (WSN), and is proposed to enhance the poor performance of the S-MAC protocol. In this paper, we are reviewed about security vulnerability in T-MAC, and analyzed the power which is consumed at each stage of T-MAC protocol according to vulnerability of denial of service (DoS) and replay problem. From our analytical results, it can be considered the need of power efficient authentication scheme which provides the reliability, efficiency, and security for a general T-MAC communication. This is the case study of possible DoS vulnerability and its power consumption in T-MAC.

  • The Chinese language is a topic-prominent language and the ancient form of the language is not an exception. This literature examines the theta roles and cases of the arguments by setting sentence structures regarding 'TopP', which marks the eventuality meaning of 'DO', from the Analects of Confucius. Summary of the analysis is as follows: 1. Like the contemporary Chinese, ancient Chinese has two topic types; one is a base-generated topic(so called dangling topic) and the other is a topic generated by the interior movement in the TP. 2. The sentence structure of TopP from the Analects of Confucius that marks the eventuality meaning of 'DO' can be divided into seven categories which are: T+S+V+O', 'T+ES+V+EO', 'T+ES+V+EO', 'T+S+V+EC', 'T+ES+V+C', 'T+ES+V+O+C', 'T+S+V+EO+C'. 3. The predicate(V-v) of TopP from the Analects of Confucius that marks the eventuality meaning of 'DO' has a meaning characteristics of [+ will] and [+ progressive]. 4. The subject of TopP from the Analects of Confucius that marks the eventuality meaning of 'DO' is assigned a thematic role of an , and the object is assigned a thematic role of a . 5. The complement of TopP from the Analects of Confucius that marks the eventuality meaning of 'DO' is composed of overt preposition head and its complements, which receives diverse thematic roles from the preposition. However, it does not have a direct selective relationship but an indirect relationship with the main verb of the sentence. 6. Every argument, which is the subject, object, complement, and adverb, of TopP from the Analects of Confucius that marks the eventuality meaning of 'DO' can theoretically be moved in front of the subject and be topicalized. 7. The topic phrase from the Analects of Confucius that marks the eventuality meaning of 'DO' is derived in the order of predicate(V-v), object, complement, adjunct, subject, and topic, but when interpreting it in Korean it is in inverse order, which is in the order of topic, subject, adjunct, complement, object and predicate(V-v).

Quality parameters of chicken breast meat affected by carcass scalding conditions

  • Objective: The influence of broiler carcass scalding conditions on chicken breast meat quality parameters was investigated. Methods: Two hundred and seventy Cobb broiler chickens from 42 to 48 days old were slaughtered according to the standard industry practice and scalded in five temperature/time combinations-$T_1$, $54^{\circ}C/210s$; $T_2$, $55^{\circ}C/180s$; $T_3$, $56^{\circ}C/150s$; $T_4$, $57^{\circ}C/120s$; $T_5$, $58^{\circ}C/90s$. Results: Scalding temperature increase resulted in higher values of external and ventral lightness and in protein functionality reduction-determined by emulsification capacity and protein denaturation-in chicken breast fillets 24 h post-mortem. Protein secondary structures had conformational changes, with a decrease of the ${\alpha}$-helix and an increase of the ${\beta}$-sheet and ${\beta}$-turn proportions, mainly in $T_1$ and $T_5$ samples, determined by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy in an attenuated reflectance mode analysis. The chemical composition, pH, water holding capacity and Warner-Bratzler shear force did not differ among the treatments. In the fatty acid profile, the 18:1n-9 was lower in $T_5$, which suggested that the high scalding-temperature could have caused the lipid oxidation. The values of the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), such as 22:2, 20:4n-6, and 22:6n-3, were highest in the $T_5$, thus being related to the phospholipid cellular membrane collapse in this experimental condition and subsequent release of these PUFA. Conclusion: Intermediate scalding-parameters avoided the negative changes in the chicken meat quality.

Halobacillus blutaparonensis sp. nov., a Moderately Halophilic Bacterium Isolated from Blutaparon portulacoides Roots in Brazil

  • A moderately halophilic, Gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium was isolated from the roots of Blutaparon portulacoides, a plant found in sandy soil parallel to the beach line in Restinga de Jurubatiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The strain, designated $M9^T$, was motile and strictly aerobic with rod-shaped cells. It grew in the absence of NaCl and up to 20% NaCl, and was able to hydrolyze casein and starch. Strain $M9^T$ had a cell-wall peptidoglycan based on L-Orn-D-Asp, the predominant menaquinone present was menaquinone-7 (MK-7), diaminopimelic acid was not found, and anteiso-$C_{15:0}$ and iso-$C_{15:0}$ were the major fatty acids. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain $M9^T$ belonged to the genus Halobacillus and exhibited 16S rRNA gene similarity levels of 97.8-99.4% with the type strains of the other nine Halobacillus species. The DNA-DNA relatedness of strain $M9^T$ with H. trueperi, the closest relative as regards 16S rRNA gene similarity, and H. locisalis was 21% and 18%, respectively. Therefore, on the basis of phenotypic, genotypic, and phylogenetic data, strain $M9^T$ (=ATCC BAA-$1217^T$, =CIP $108771^T$, =KCTC $3980^T$) should be placed in the genus Halobacillus as a member of a novel species, for which the name Halobacillus blutaparonensis sp. nov. is proposed.

Machine Learning-based Detection of DoS and DRDoS Attacks in IoT Networks

  • We propose an intrusion detection model that detects denial-of-service(DoS) and distributed reflection denial-of-service(DRDoS) attacks, based on the empirical data of each internet of things(IoT) device by training system and network metrics that can be commonly collected from various IoT devices. First, we collect 37 system and network metrics from each IoT device considering IoT attack scenarios; further, we train them using six types of machine learning models to identify the most effective machine learning models as well as important metrics in detecting and distinguishing IoT attacks. Our experimental results show that the Random Forest model has the best performance with accuracy of over 96%, followed by the K-Nearest Neighbor model and Decision Tree model. Of the 37 metrics, we identified five types of CPU, memory, and network metrics that best imply the characteristics of the attacks in all the experimental scenarios. Furthermore, we found out that packets with higher transmission speeds than larger size packets represent the characteristics of DoS and DRDoS attacks more clearly in IoT networks.

Yield characteristics of Pleurotus ostreatus according to the use of spent mushroom substrate with high nitrogen content (질소원이 증진된 수확후배지를 이용한 느타리버섯 수량 특성)

  • The aim of this study was to re-use spent mushroom substrate (SMS) with increased total nitrogen (T-N) and amino acid content and reduce the amount of cottonseed meal used as nutrient supplement in Pleurotus ostreatus cultivation. Bacteria used for improvement of the T-N content were GM20-4(Bacillus sp.) and Rhodobacter sphaeroides (RS). GM20-4 was isolated from the SMS of P. ostreatus and RS was obtained from Gwangjusi agricultural technology center. SMS in T1, T2, and T3 was reused as substrate after drying and the T-N content of dried SMS (D-SMS) was increased by 0.34% by treatment with the bacteria. T1 with 8% D-SMS and T2 with 18% D-SMS had higher rates of primordia formation compared with T3 and the control. The biological efficiency of the control and of treatment with 8%, 18%, and 26% D-SMS was 110%, 114%, 112%, and 79%, respectively. Considering the economic cost, yield, and biological efficiency, T2 with 18% D-SMS as the culture substrate for P. ostreatus was shown to be the most effective for cultivation.
