Internet of Things (IoT) is a relatively new concept that has gained immense popularity in a short period of time due to its wide applicability in making human life more convenient and automated. As an illustration: the development of smart homes, smart cities, etc. However, it is also accompanied by a substantial number of risks and flaws. IoT makes use of low-powered devices, so secure, less time-consuming and energy-intensive transmission (routing) of messages due to the limited availability of energy is one of the many and most significant concerns for IoT developers. The following paper presents a trust-based routing scenario for the Internet of Things (IoT) that exploits the past transmission record from the cupcarbon simulator's log files. Artificial Neural Network is used to quantify knowledge of trust, calculate the value of trust, and share this information with other network devices. As a human behavioural pattern, trust provides a superior method for making routing decisions. If there is a tie in the trust values and no other path is available, the remaining battery power is used to break the tie and make a forwarding decision; this is also seen as a more efficient use of the available resources. The proposed algorithm is observed to have superior energy consumption and routing decisions compared to conventional routing algorithms, and it improves the communication pattern.

Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is one of the most important crops in human food production. The occurrence of diseases, such as white mold, caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum can limit the production of this legume. The use of Trichoderma has become an important strategy in the suppression of this disease. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by Trichoderma azevedoi CEN1241 in five different growth periods on the severity of white mold in common bean. The in vitro assays were carried out in double-plate and split-plate, and the in vivo assays, through the exposure of the mycelia of S. sclerotiorum to the VOCs of T. azevedoi CEN1241 and subsequent inoculation in bean plants. Chemical analysis by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry detected 37 VOCs produced by T. azevedoi CEN1241, covering six major chemical classes. The profile of VOCs produced by T. azevedoi CEN1241 varied according to colony age and was shown to be related to the ability of the biocontrol agent to suppress S. sclerotiorum. T. azevedoi CEN1241 VOCs reduced the size of S. sclerotiorum lesions on bean fragments in vitro and reduced disease severity in a greenhouse. This study demonstrated in a more applied way that the mechanism of antibiosis through the production of volatile compounds exerted by Trichoderma can complement other mechanisms, such as parasitism and competition, thus contributing to a better efficiency in the control of white mold in bean plants.

Glycyrrhizae radix is one of the most frequently prescribed ingredients in Oriental medicine, and Glycyrrhizae radix extract has been shown to exert anti-cancer effects. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms of programed cell death (apoptosis) by Glycyrrhizae radix are poorly defined. In the present study, it was examined the molecular mechanisms of apoptosis by water extracts of Glycyrrhizae radix (GRW) in human bladder T24 cancer cells. It was found that GRW could inhibit the cell growth of T24 cells in a concentration-dependent manner, which was associated with the induction of apoptotic cell death, as evidenced by the formation of apoptotic bodies, DNA fragmentation and increased populations of annexin-V positive cells. The induction of apoptotic cell death by GRW was connected with an up-regulation of pro-apoptotic Bax protein expression and down-regulation of anti-apoptotic proteins (Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL), and inhibition of apoptosis family proteins (XIAP, cIAP-1 and cIAP-2). In addition, apoptosis-inducing concentrations of GRW induced the activation of caspase-9, an initiator caspase of the mitochondrial-mediated intrinsic pathway, and caspase-3, accompanied by proteolytic degradation of PARP. GRW also induced apoptosis via a death receptor-mediated extrinsic pathway by caspase-8 activation, resulting in the down-regulation of total Bid and suggesting the existence of cross-talk between the extrinsic and intrinsic pathways. Taken together, the present results suggest that GRW may be a potential chemotherapeutic agent for the control of human bladder cancer cells.
Although many plant-derived phenolic compounds display antioxidant effects in biological systems, their mechanism of action remains controversial. In this study, the mechanism by which p-coumaric acid (p-CA) performs its antioxidant action was investigated in bovine aortic endothelial cells under oxidative stress due to high levels of glucose (HG) and arachidonic acid (AA), a free fatty acid. p-CA prevented lipid peroxidation and cell death due to HG+AA without affecting the production of reactive oxygen species. The antioxidant effect of p-CA was not decreased by buthionine-(S,R)-sulfoximine, an inhibitor of cellular GSH synthesis. In contrast, pretreatment with p-CA caused the induction of peroxidases that decomposed t-butyl hydroperoxide in a p-CA-dependent manner. Furthermore, the antioxidant effect of p-CA was significantly mitigated by methimazole, which was shown to inhibit the catalytic activity of 'p-CA peroxidases' in vitro. Therefore, it is suggested that the induction of these previously unidentified 'p-CA peroxidases' is responsible for the antioxidant effect of p-CA.

Nitric Oxide (NO) has been known to play important physiological and pathological roles. In this study, Sodium nitroprusside (SNP), NO donor, induced the apoptosis of HaCaT cell, human spontaneous immortal keratinocyte, which was investigated through DAPI staining and cleavage of PARP and caspase-3 protein. However, the expression level of Bip and CHOP, involved in ER stress, was not significantly changed as compared to the control cell group. Recent studies have showed that SIRT1, $NAD^+$-dependent deacetylase, is the key protein that controls cell survival and death. SNP treatment suppressed the SIRT1 gene expression, which indicated that apoptosis induced by SNP could be implicated in SIRT1 down-regulation.
The need for designing and implementing integrated policy was further emphasized in tandem with the increase in interest concerning policy coordination and interactions. An active discussion is taking place in the field of innovation policy concerning "integrated innovation policy," which considers innovation along with financial, regional development, social, and environmental policies together in a holistic manner. In Korea since the beginning of the 2000s, there were many attempts at implementing integrated innovation policy through the restructuring of the overall S&T administration system. For the purposes of taking an integrated approach to S&T policies as well as to S&T-related human resources, industrial, and regional development policies, the Roh Administration (February 2003~February 2008) elevated the S&T Minister to the level of Deputy Prime Minister as well as launching the Office of Science, Technology, and Innovation (OSTI) (October 2004 ~ February 2008) under the Ministry of Science and Technology. This study investigates the policy coordination activities of the OSTI from the perspective of policy integration. It deals with the background of the OSTI, its roles and responsibilities, the coordination process, and its achievements and limitations while discussing the important implications for developing effective policy measures with the hope of contributing to the development of theories of integrated innovation policy.
DDoS attack has been continuously utilized that caused the excessively large amount of traffic that network bandwidth or server was unable to deal with paralyzing the service. Most of the people regard NTP as the biggest cause of DDoS. However, according to recently executed DDoS attack, there have been many SSDP attack in the use of amplified technique. According to characteristics of SSDP, there is no connection for making a forgery of source IP address and amplified resources feasible. Therefore, it is frequently used for attack. Especially, as it is mostly used as a protocol for causing DDoS attack on IoT devices that constitute smart home including a wireless router, media server, webcam, smart TV, and network printer. Hereupon, it is anticipated for servers of attacks to gradually increase. This might cause a serious threat to major information of human lives, major government bodies, and company system as well as on IoT devices. This study is intended to identify DDoS attack techniques in the use of weakness of SSDP protocol occurring in IoT devices and attacking scenario and counter-measures on them.
In the IoT environment, there is a huge amount of heterogeneous devices with limited capacity. Existing trust evaluation methods are not adequate to accommodate this requirement due to the limited storage space and computational resources. In addition, since IoT devices are mainly human operated devices, the trust evaluation should reflect the social relations among device owners. There is also a need for a mechanism that reflects the tendency of the trustor and environmental factors. In this paper, we propose an adaptable trust evaluation method for SOA-based IoT system to deal with these issues. The proposed model is designed to minimize the confidence bias and to dynamically respond to environmental changes by combining direct evaluation and indirect evaluation. It is expected that it will be possible to secure trust through quantitative evaluation by providing feedback based on social relationships.
The cytotoxic activity of 33,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid methylester and related compounds on the growth of normal cell lines, human skin melanoma cells and human oral epithelioid cell line were evaluated by the 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and 2,3-bis-[2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfo-phenyl]-2-H-tetrazolium-5-caboxanilide (XTT) methods. 3,4,5-Trihydroxybenzoic acid methylester decreased the cell viability of human skin melanoma cells and human oral epithelioid cells shown by the MTT method and the cell adhesion activity of human skin melanoma cells and human oral epithelioid cells shown by the XTT method. In light microscopy, 100 ${\mu}M$ 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid methylester showed the highest cytotoxic activity. These results suggest that 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid methylester has a potential anticancer activity.
This study has been done in order to examine elementary school pupil's knowledge and attitudes on sex. The subjects of the study were 1904 elementary school pupils in the 5th and 6th grade of three elementary schools in Kyonggi-do, Korea. A guide book for the teachers on sexual education published by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources has been used as the tool for the study. Data analysis has been performed by using SPSS Win(l0.0) with mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test(ANOVA), and Pearson's Correlation. The results show that the human relationship area showed the highest, next were physical development, sexual culture and sexual ethics, and the last were sex health and sexual psychology. The Pearson's correlation between each area of knowledge and attitude on sex show a significant correlation statistically in the level of p<.001 in all areas. When examined individually the highest correlation was demonstrated between physical development and sexual health and human relationship by r=.573, while it demonstrated only r=.265 the lowest between sexual ethics and physical development.
