  • The study examines the anti-cancer effects of the hot water extract of Mylabris phalerata(MP) using SNU-C5 cell lines. Microscopic analysis showed that 12 hours after MP treatment, the number of dead cells increased prominently. Significant cell death was observed 12, 24, and 48 hours after MP treatment through trypan blue exclusion testing. This suggests that MP is time-dependently cytotoxic. Mitotracker Red CMXRos staining and flowcytometry revealed that MP decreased mitochondrial membrane potentials. The absence of peaks on PI staining showed that DNA damage occurred in MP treated cells. Taken together, measurements suggest that MP has a strong anti-cancer effect on SNU-5 cell lines, and that this is likely to be due to the destruction of mitochondria and DNA damage.

  • A series of lithium chloride-imidazolium chloride (LiCl-[imidazolium]Cl) melts were prepared and their catalytic activities were evaluated for the coupling reactions of propylene oxide and CO2. At the constant mole of LiCl, the catalytic activities of LiCl-[imidazolium]Cl melts increased with increasing molar ratio of [imidazolium]Cl/LiCl up to 2, but thereafter decreased rapidly. The variation of alkyl groups on the imidazolium ring showed a negligible effect on the catalytic activity, but the number of alkyl groups present on the imidazolium cation exerts a pronounced effect. Catalysis and electrospray ionization tandem mass spectral analysis results of LiCl-[imidazolium]Cl melts imply that the activity of the melt is strongly related to the amount of LiCl2- generated from the melt.

  • Objectives : This study was performed to review articles referring to facial palsy sequelae evaluating scale and propose how to assess facial palsy sequelae. Methods : We searched for the medical literature to find out method of evaluating facial palsy sequelae. Then, we researched strengths and weaknesses of the scale and considered the way to appraise the facial palsy sequelae. Results : There were subjective and objective scale for evaluating facial palsy sequelae. Subjective scale could offer detailed assessment but had low objectivity and reproducibility. Objective scale had consistency and detachment but needed for specific equipments with time for measuring and calculating. Conclusions : We should evaluate the facial palsy sequelae with the strengths of subjective and objective scale and assess facial nerve function, symptoms of facial palsy sequelae and quality of life entirely. Moreover, the scale has to contain the reliability with static and dynamic assessment.
