  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment on ruptured ovarian cyst. Methods: The patient diagnosed with ruptured ovarian cyst was treated with Korean medicine treatment during 10 days of hospitalization. The patient received Korean medicine treatment including herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion. The effect of treatment on ruptured ovarian cyst was evaluated through the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and Ultrasound. Result: After the treatment, the clinical symptoms of abdominal pain and fatigue were improved. Also, on transvaginal ultrasound, bleeding was almost absorbed. Conclusions: This case report proved that the Korean medicine treatment may be effective for improving clinical symptoms after ovarian cyst ruptured. However, further clinical study is needed in the furture to prove the effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment for ruptured ovarian cyst.

  • Objectives: This case report aims to report the clinical effectiveness of the combination treatment of Korean medicine on acute pelvic pain followed by ruptured ovarian cyst. Methods: The patients who diagnosed with ruptured ovarian cyst complained of acute pelvic pain, lower abdominal pain, abdomen distention, constipation, lower back pain and dysuria. They received combination treatment of Korean medicine during hospitalization. The treatment included Chungpochukeo-tang, acupuncture, moxibustion, and pharmacoacupuncture. The effects were evaluated through Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Results: After the treatment, the clincial symptoms such as acute pelvic pain, lower abdominal pain, abdomen distention, constipation, lower back pain and dysuria were improved. Conclusions: This case report shows that the combination treatment of Korean medicine with Chungpochukeo-tang may be effective for treating acute pelvic pain by ruptured ovarian cyst.

  • Ovarian cysts are the most common cystic abdominal masses in female newborns. It is believed to be derived from an overstimulation of the ovarian follicles by maternal, placental, and fetal hormones. Although most ovarian cysts resolve spontaneously, surgical management is mandatory for life-threatening, complicated cases, including torsion, intracystic hemorrhage, and rupture of the cyst. Rupture of ovarian cysts is thought to be exceedingly rare, but can lead to severe hemorrhagic ascites or peritonitis. We managed a case of a ruptured ovarian cyst in a female newborn who presented with mild abdominal distension and two episodes of gross hematuria. Exploratory laparotomy revealed a right ovarian cyst with torsion and rupture. She was successfully treated with a right salpingo- oophorectomy with no sequelae.

  • Histological investigation of the number of follicles following gonadotropin treatments for superovulation was carried out in mature Sprague-Dwaley(SD) rats. Routinely serial sections of paraffin-embedded ovaries were stained with hematoxylin-eosin and evaluated with light microscope. During the study unusual cases of microscopic alterations were observed in the medulla of ovaries in two rats. Case one: An ovum and its follicular fluid outflowed in medulla of ovary. The follicular fluid was densly proteinuous. Corona raiata consisted of 2-6 layers thick cells in the periphery of the ovum. While the cortical side of the follicular wall was intact with normal granulosa cell layer the meullary side of it was ruptured. Case two: A large cyst was present in medulla of ovary hilus. The cyst occupied the entire medulla displacing the ovarian archetecture and enclosed by connective tissue and smooth muscle wall.
