  • To establish the exclusive role of hydrogen on burst behaviour of Zircaloy-4 during loss-of-coolant accident transients, an extensive single-rod burst tests were conducted on both unirradiated as-received and hydrogenated Zircaloy-4 cladding tubes at different heating rates and internal overpressures. The visual observations of cladding tubes during bursting as well as post-burst are presented in detail to understand the effect of hydrogen concentration, heating rate, and internal pressure. Impact of hydrogen on burst parameters-burst stress, burst strain, burst temperature-during loss-of-coolant accident transients are compared and discussed. Rupture at multiple locations for hydrogenated cladding at lower internal pressure and higher heating rate is reported for the very first time. A novel burst criterion accounting hydrogen concentration in nuclear fuel cladding is proposed.

  • In this study, an effect of fiber blending on material property of Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Concrete (HFRC) was evaluated. Also, Compare and evaluates collating and mechanical property by the mixing rate of fiber for HFRC was determine. Modulus of rupture and strength effectiveness of Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Concrete mixed with macro-fiber(steel fiber) and micro-fiber(glass fiber, carbon fiber, cellulose fiber). Test result shows, in the case of mono fiber reinforced concrete. As the steel fiber mixing rate increases to 1.5$\%$, the strength effectiveness promotion rate rises. However, when is 2.0$\%$, strength decreases. In the case of hybrid fiber reinforcement concrete, synergy effect of micro fiber and macro fiber happens and higher Modulus of rupture and strength effectiveness appears than mono-fiber reinforcement concrete. Use of hybrid fiber reinforcement in concrete caused a significant influence on its fracture behavior; consequently, caused increase by mixing rate of steel fiber + carbon fiber and contributed by steel fiber + glass fiber, steel fiber + celluloid fiber in reinforcement effect in order. And was expose that steel fiber(1.5$\%$) + carbon fiber(0.5$\%$) is most suitable association.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to report on the result of repairing Achilles tendon using absorbable suture under nerve block. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 20 patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture who were followed up for at least six months after the operation. We repaired Achilles tendon using two absorbable sutures using the Krackow technique for the proximal stump and the Kessler technique for the distal stump. A programmed postoperative management including non-weight bearing with a short leg cast for four weeks after the operation was applied for all patients. We evaluated clinical results using American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot score, visual analogue scale (VAS) for satisfaction, range of motion of ankle, functional recovery rate, and the starting time of single heel raise. Results: The mean VAS score for satisfaction and AOFAS score was 9.2 and 93.0, respectively. The affected ankle showed a mean dorsiflexion rate of 90% and plantar-flexion rate of 94% compared to the uninjured side. The single heel raise could start at a mean of 3.5 months after the operation. Conclusion: Treatment of Achilles tendon rupture with absorbable suture material using the hybrid suture technique of proximal Krackow and distal Kessler showed sufficient stability and minimal chronic inflammatory reaction.

  • Influences of hold time and stress ratio on cyclic creep properties of Grade 91 steel were systemically investigated using a wide range of cyclic creep tests, which were performed with hold times (HTs) of 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 30 minutes and stress ratios (R) of 0.5, 0.8, 0.85, 0.90, and 0.95 under tension loading cycles at $600^{\circ}C$. Under the influence of HT, the rupture time increased to HT = 5 minutes at R = 0.90 and R = 0.95, but there was no influence at R = 0.50, 0.80, and 0.85. The creep rate was constant regardless of an increase in the HT, except for the case of HT = 5 minutes at R = 0.90 and R = 0.95. Under the influence of stress ratio, the rupture time increased with an increase in the stress ratio, but the creep rate decreased. The cyclic creep led to a reduction in the rupture time and an acceleration in the creep rate compared with the case of monotonic creep. Cyclic creep was found to depend dominantly on the stress ratio rather than on the HT. Fracture surfaces displayed transgranular fractures resulting from microvoid coalescence, and the amount of microvoids increased with an increase in the stress ratio. Enhanced coarsening of the precipitates in the cyclic creep test specimens was found under all conditions.

  • This paper describes experimental investigations of helium-air exchange flow through openings with vertical partitions. Such exchange flows may occur following rupture accident of stand pipe in high temperature gas cooled reactor. Exchange flow rates are investigated experimentally by using partitioned opening and opening with extended partition to assess fluids interference of the exchange flow at the stand pipe rupture accident. A tests vessel with the two types of opening on top of test cylinder is used in the experiments. An estimation method of mass increment is developed and applied to measure the exchange flow rate. A technique of flow visualization by Mach-Zehnder interferometer is provided to recognize the exchange flows. Amplitude and progress of interference fringes of the flows are observed and used as a support in comparison with the exchange flow rates. Flow passages of upward flow of the helium and downward flow of the air for both two types of the opening are separated by inserted partition within the opening, but in the case of partitioned opening, unseparated flow is formed at the opening entrance and the two flows interface. The exchange flow rate for the partitioned opening is not greater than that of the opening with extended partition because of the fluids interference at the entrance of opening. Finally, the fluids interference at the opening entrance is found to be one of important factors on the helium-air exchange flow rate.

  • The containment of the nuclear power plant is the last barrier of radiation release when the reactor coolant pipe rupture is occurred. Each plant has to be tested every 5 years whether the containment leak rate meets its technical specifications. We have developed the leak rate test system and in this paper, we describe the results of the uncertainty analysis on the measurement channels and its propagation to the calculation results.

  • The record of 137 patients with spontaneous pneumothorax seen at Busan National University Hospital during past 3years were reviewed to study the possible pathogenesis and its effective management. and the results obtained as follows; 1] The incidence of the "spontaneous" pneumothorax which developed without underlying pathology was 13-1%. The majority of those cases was considered as the result of rupture of subpleural blebs. 2] The incidence of secondary pneumothorax which developed with underlying pathology was 50.0%, in which 42.3% was combined with pulmonary tuberculosis and 8, 0% was combined with pulmonary infection. The traumatic pneumothorax was developed in 36-5% of total series. 3] In age distribution, there was pronounced difference between spontaneous and secondary pneumothorax. The majority of spontaneous pneumothorax cases was 20-30 decade and tall and tall and thin in body structure. In secondary pneumothorax, however, the incidence was relatively high in age group more than 50 years old. 4] The incidence of pneumothorax combined with pulmonary tuberculosis was particularly high in our country, and the cause of pneumothorax was seemed due to the rupture of subpleural caseous foci in some cases, but the majority was seen due to the rupture of emphysematous blebs which were formed with a pathological process of chronic tuberculosis. 5]Closed [tube] thoracotomy was the main therapeutic approach of choice in the great majority ,of pneumothorax in our series with the relapse rate of 19.6%. However, open thoracotomy and adequate surgical procedures should be undertaken in patients with continuous air leakage over 7 days and recurrent attack of pneumothorax.

  • Outcomes of ventricular septal rupture (VSR) as a complication of acute myocardial infarction are extremely poor, with an in-hospital mortality rate of 45% in surgically treated patients and 90% in patients managed with medication. Delaying surgery for VSR is a strategy for reducing mortality. However, hemodynamic instability is the main problem with this strategy. In the present case, venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) was used to provide stable hemodynamic support before the delayed surgery. Awake ECMO was also used to avoiding the complications of sedatives and mechanical ventilation. Here, we describe a successful operation using awake ECMO as a bridge to surgery.

  • The spontaneous rupture of the esophagus is an uncommon disease, but without early diagnosis and treatment, the mortality rate is high. This report is on the two cases treated at the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, College of Medicine, Kyu-ngpook National University. The first patient, after heavy drinking, had vomiting followed by chest pain, dyspnea and subcutaneous emphysema. After diagnosis using an esophagogram, an operation was perfomed. About a 4cm rupture was found at the lower left part of the esophagus and was primarily sutured with the intercostal muscle. The patient was weaned from the ventilator after 40 hours. The second patient had symptoms the same as the first case. Six days after the app-earence of the symptoms, the patient was treated by the Thais onlay gastric patch method. The leakage happened after the surgery and he received a conservative treatment. After discharge no abnormalities, such as leakage and stricture, were found on the eso-phagogram The two patients now live a normal life.

  • Ventricular septal rupture (VSR) is a rare but lethal complication of myocardial infarction. The event occurs 2~8 days after an infarction and often precipitates cardiogenic shock. Post myocardial infarction VSR is known for difficult to repair. Especially, Transmural myocardial infarction involved in the posterior VSD area, exposure of the affected site is difficult and postoperative mortality rate is high. We have experienced a case of a 75-year-old female patient who suffered posterior VSD due to acute myocardial infarction, and attained good result by approaching the lesion through right atrial incision and repaired the defect by using patch closure technique.
