  • This paper presents the results of an experimental study of wave run-ups on a semi-submersible offshore structure. A series of model tests with a 1:80 scale ratio were carried out in the two-dimensional wave basin of MOERI/KIOST. The experimental model had two columns and one pontoon. The model was fixed and wave elevations were measured at five points per column. Two different draft (operational & survival) conditions and three wave heights were considered under regular wave conditions. First, the nonlinear characteristics of wave run-ups are discussed by using the time series data. Then, the wave heights are compared with numerical results based on the potential flow model. The comparison shows fairly good correlation between the experiments and computations. Finally, wave run-ups under the operational and survival conditions are suggested.

  • This study applied the statistically significant factors to the short-run model in the existing nonlinear long-run equilibrium relation analysis for the forecasting of maritime economy using the mixed cycle model. The most common univariate AR(1) model and out-of-sample forecasting are compared with the root mean squared forecasting error from the mixed-frequency model, and the prediction power of the mixed-frequency approach is confirmed to be better than the AR(1) model. The empirical results from the analysis suggest that the new approach of high-level mixed frequency model is a useful for forecasting marine industry. It is consistent that the inclusion of more information, such as higher frequency, in the analysis of long-run equilibrium framework is likely to improve the forecasting power of short-run models in multivariate time series analysis.

  • The main objective of this study is to find out the fauna of macroinvertebrate and composition of functional feeding groups about the aquatic insects to microhabitat from the Geum River, Korea. This study is based on investigations of the main channel of Geum River, Korea which is upstream of Daecheong Dam, and carried out in the spring and autumn of 2004. Collections from all the sites were 39,532 individuals, 130 species, 54 families, 16 orders, 7 classes, and 4 phyla of macroinvertebrates. Aquatic insects were composed of 90.76% (118 species) and 98.88% (39,088 individuals) of all the identified species. Among the microhabitats, the riffles were collected 26,293 individuals and 92 species, and the runs were collected 12,329 individuals and 89 species. Finally, the pools were collected 494 individuals and 41 species. In this survey, the proportions of functional feeding groups of aquatic insects were as follows (percent of identified): predators 37.65%, gathering-collectors 23.53%, scrapers 16.47%, filtering-collectors 11.76%, shredders 9.41% and plant-piercers 1.18%. Also, the functional feeding groups were sorted according to microhabitat, in the riffles 30.65% were predators and 29.03% were gathering-collectors; in the run 30.3% were predators, and 28.79% were gathering-collectors; while in the pools 36.67% were predators, and 30.0% were gathering-collectors. In all microhabitats, gathering collectors and predators were predominant, because most of the survey sites are in the midstream. Also, the scrapers were shown more frequently in the riffle (17.74%) and run (18.18 %) than pool (13.13%), the filtering-collectors were shown more frequently in the riffle (14.52%) and the run (12.12%) than the pool (6.67%), and the plant-piercers (3.33%) were found only in pools. But the shredders weren't a difference in the run (10.61%), the pool (10.0%) and the riffle (8.06%), because of the characteristic. Microhabitats (riffle and run) are much alike in composition ratio of functional feeding groups and pool was very lower out of composition ratio in microhabitats. But riffle is very important than run, because most of individual occur in streams. Besides, pool was diverse to composition ratios, considering the number of individuals.

  • This study is to set up the appropriate range of observation time through contemplating the characteristics of observation time run for the information acquisition of space. The conclusions reached through this study are as the followings. First, this study could find out that even though the evaluation elements on the three types for image evaluation were the same, the information acquisitions were different as those types varied. On the other hand, the change of the average run-time by type for the information acquisition was found not to be big, in other words, even though the run-time was alike, the information acquisitions varied depending on the type. Second, he evaluation by language media showed the average value by element had the order of [shape>position>number>existence] and the range of their run-time was 94.6~102.9 seconds. The average rate of information acquisition shown at the visual media had the order of [composition>shape>material&color] and the range of run-time was 93.1~99.7 seconds. Third, the evaluation by language media showed that for male subjects the range of information acquisition rate was 39.1~91.4% and that of run-time 85.1~106.0 seconds and for female ones 46.0~94.6% and 96.3~112.3 seconds respectively. In case of the visual media, male subjects showed the range of information acquisition rate was 40.3-66.7% and the range of run-time 82.4~97.9 seconds and the female ones, 42.2~71.0% and 94.0~115.1 seconds respectively, through which we could see that at the evaluation by language media and visual media both the female's range of information acquisition and that of observation time were higher than the male's.

  • This study was carried out to treat sewage using sand trench combined with septic tank process in rural areas. In order to find optimum parameters, design and operation mode was changed from Run 1 to Run 4. In order to facilitate nitrification and T-P removal, diffuser and iron plate was installed in the 3rd trench of Run 2 period. The septic tank played a role as pre-application process of sand trench system. The removal efficiencies of COD, NH$_4$-N, T-P at steady state were 94.6%, 87.9% and 54.5%, respectively. Addition of diffuser and iron plate in the 3rd trench has increased the removal efficiencies of the NIL-N and T-P. In this system, denitrification were not occurred because of the high DO.

  • New control charts under repetitive sampling are proposed, which can be used for variables and attributes quality characteristics. The proposed control charts have inner and outer control limits so that repetitive sampling may be needed if the plotted statistic falls between the two limits. Particularly, the new np and variable X-bar control charts under repetitive sampling are considered in detail. The in-control and out-of-control average run lengths are analyzed according to various process shifts. The performance of the proposed control charts is compared with the existing np and the X-bar control charts in terms of the average run lengths.
