  • The development of IT technology has brought many changes in military operations. For example, the way of transmitting and receiving information from one another has changed. Partiicularly, in the case of the ROK Navy, they utilize encrypted real-time chattig over wire wireless network in operations and tranings. However, text communication is being utilized more in exanging of simple informations, and not for the partical informations required in the operations and exercises, doctrines and guidebooks are still being used in these cases. Therefore, I have designed a rule-based engine which can provide real-time informations by linking ECA rules to text communication, and it has been verified by running virtual scenarios. As a rusult, this engine showed an accuracy of 83%.

  • BPEL is a standard executable language for specifying actions within business processes with Web services. BPEL workflow requires rule engine to describe application process in BPEL, as the requirements increase. It is needed to develop new BPEL's engine or modify BPEL's engine in order to add the functionality of rules to BPEL engines, but this method is not easy to implement and it requires very high cost. In this paper, we present an R4BPEL document, which uses the original BPEL grammar and includes a rule document. With this method, it is possible to build rule-based BPEL environment easily by adding web services with rules and R4BPEL document analyzer to the general-purpose Web services. In this paper, we campared a BPEL's document in proposed system with a BPEL's document in the existing system. And we demonstrated the simplicity of the rule-based system.

  • In this paper, we propose a smart thermostat temperature set-point control method based on machine learning and rule engine, which controls thermostat's temperature set-point so that it can achieve energy savings as much as possible without sacrifice of occupants' comfort while users' preference usage pattern is respected. First, the proposed method periodically mines data about how user likes for heating (winter)/cooling (summer) his or her home by learning his or her usage pattern of setting temperature set-point of the thermostat during the past several weeks. Then, from this learning, the proposed method establishes a weekly schedule about temperature setting. Next, by referring to thermal comfort chart by ASHRAE, it makes rules about how to adjust temperature set-points as much as low (winter) or high (summer) while the newly adjusted temperature set-point satisfies thermal comfort zone for predicted humidity. In order to make rules work on time or events, we adopt rule engine so that it can achieve energy savings properly without sacrifice of occupants' comfort. Through experiments, it is shown that the proposed smart thermostat temperature set-point control method can achieve better energy savings while keeping human comfort compared to other conventional thermostat.

  • Inference engine that performs the brain of software agent in next generation's web with various standards based on standard language of the web, XML has to understand SWRL (Semantic Web Rule Language) that is a language to express the rule in the Semantic Web. In this research, we want to develop a forward inference engine, SMART-F (SeMantic web Agent Reasoning Tools-Forward chaining inference engine) that uses SWRL as a rule express method, and OWL as a fact express method. In the traditional inference field, the Rete algorithm that improves effectiveness of forward rule inference by converting if-then rules to network structure is often used for forward inference. To apply this to the Semantic Web, we analyze the required functions for the SWRL-based forward inference, and design the forward inference algorithm that reflects required functions of next generation's Semantic Web deducted by Rete algorithm. And then, to secure each platform's independence and portability in the ubiquitous environment and overcome the gap of performance, we developed management tool of fact and rule base and forward inference engine. This is compatible with fact and rule base of SMART-B that was developed. So, this maximizes a practical use of knowledge in the next generation's Web environment.

  • Rule-based paradigm is one of the principal types of software process modeling and enaction approaches, as they provide formality and flexibility sufficient to handle complex processes. However, the systems adopting rule-based paradigms are hard to define and understand process models, and their inference engine should be modified or redeveloped at worst according to the change of process language. In this paper, we describe a rule-based PSEE(Process-Centered Software Engineering Environment) PRAiSE that solves the above limitations of existing rule-based PSEEs as well as maintains the merits of rule-based paradigm such as the ability to incorporate the nature of software processes flexibly in which dynamic changes and parallelism are pervasive and prevalent. PRAiSE provides RAiSE, a graphical Process modeling language, and defined process models are interpreted and enacted by process engine implemented using CLiPS, a rule based expert system tool.

  • In this research, we propose the mechanism to develop self-evolving expert systems (SEES) based on data mining (DM), fuzzy neural networks (FNN), and relational database (RDB)-driven forward/backward inference engine. Most researchers had tried to develop a text-oriented knowledge base (KB) and inference engine (IE). However, this approach had some limitations such as 1) automatic rule extraction, 2) manipulation of ambiguousness in knowledge, 3) expandability of knowledge base, and 4) speed of inference. To overcome these limitations, knowledge engineers had tried to develop an automatic knowledge extraction mechanism. As a result, the adaptability of the expert systems was improved. Nonetheless, they didn't suggest a hybrid and generalized solution to develop self-evolving expert systems. To this purpose, we propose an automatic knowledge acquisition and composite inference mechanism based on DM, FNN, and RDB-driven inference engine. Our proposed mechanism has five advantages. First, it can extract and reduce the specific domain knowledge from incomplete database by using data mining technology. Second, our proposed mechanism can manipulate the ambiguousness in knowledge by using fuzzy membership functions. Third, it can construct the relational knowledge base and expand the knowledge base unlimitedly with RDBMS (relational database management systems) module. Fourth, our proposed hybrid data mining mechanism can reflect both association rule-based logical inference and complicate fuzzy relationships. Fifth, RDB-driven forward and backward inference time is shorter than the traditional text-oriented inference time.

  • LBS must manage various context data and make the best use of this data for application service in ubiquitous environment. Conventional mobile object data management architecture did not consider process of context data. Therefore a new mobile data management framework is needed to process location context data. In this paper, we design a new context management framework for a location based application service. A suggestion framework is consisted of context collector, context manager, rule base, inference engine, and mobile object context database. It describes a form of rule base and a movement process of inference engine that are based on location based application scenario. It also presents an embodiment instance of interface which suggested framework is applied to location context interference of mobile object.

  • OWL(Web Ontology Language) is the Ontology Standard Language and the a lot of Ontologies are being constructed in OWL. But the research on the extension of OWL is also progressing because of the limit of representation power of in OWL language. The W3C suggests the SWRL(Semantic Web Rule Language) based on the combination of OWL and RuleML(Rule Markup Language), which is improved in the representation of rule. Thus, both OWL and SWRL are used for developing ontologies. However, research on inference of ontologies written in both languages is just begun. These day, for the inference of ontologies written in both languages, ontologies and divided in to two parts. The part written in OWL and written in SWRL. For the inference of the part written in OWL, Racer, a DL based inference engine, is used and for the other part Jess, a rule-based engine, is used. In this paper, we will propose three methods for integrated inference of the OWL part and the SWRL part of ontologies using Jess and some tools for ontology inference : OWLJessKB and SWRL Factory

  • Recently. many projects have been actively implementing IPsec on the various Operating Systems for security of IPv6 network. But there is no existing tool that checks the IPsec-based systems, which provide IPsec services, work Properly and provide their network security services well In the IPv6 network. In this paper, we design SERDL(Security Evaluation Rule Description Language) and rule execution tool for evaluating security of the IPv6 network, and we provide implementation details. The system Is divided into following parts : User Interface part, Rule Execution Module part, DBMS part and agent that gathering information needed for security test.
