Research on Capacitive Tactile Sensor for Electronic Skin using Natural Rubber and Nitrile Butadiene Rubber

  • Recently, there has been a significant focus on the development of flexible and stretchable sensors, driven by advancements in electronic devices and the robotics industry. Among these sensors, tactile sensors stand out as the most actively researched, playing a crucial role in facilitating interaction between humans and electronic devices, particularly in robotics and medical applications. This study specifically involves the manufacturing of a capacitive tactile sensor using a relatively straightforward process and sensor structure. Natural rubber and Nitrile butadiene rubber, commonly employed in the rubber industry, were utilized. The dielectric material in the manufactured tactile sensor possesses a porous structure. Notably, the resulting tactile sensor demonstrated excellent sensitivity, approximately 1%/kPa, and exhibited the capability to detect pressures up to 212 kPa.

Steady State and Transient Characteristics of a Rubber Belt CVT with Mechanical Actuators

  • In this paper, thrust equations for a rubber belt CVT are derived by considering the geometry and mechanism of the mechanical actuators. In order to solve the thrust equations, an algorithm to calculate the speed ratio is suggested for the given driver speed and load torque based on the actuator characteristic equations and existing formula for the belt thrust forces. Experiments are performed to investigate the driver speed-load torque-speed ratio characteristics at a steady state. The speed and torque efficiencies are measured and used to modify the actuator equations. It is found that the modified equations well predict the steady state characteristics. In addition, the shift dynamic model for a rubber belt CVT is derived experimentally. Simulation results of the CVT shift dynamics are in good accordance with the experiments and it is noted that different coefficients are required to describe the CVT shift dynamics for the upshift and the downshift.

Belt and Road Initiatives and the Competitiveness of Natural Rubber Exports: Evidence from the BRI Region

  • This study examines the export competitiveness of four major natural rubber exporters in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) region and investigates the factors affecting bilateral natural rubber export. This study utilized the revealed symmetric comparative advantage (RSCA) to measure export competitiveness. Next, this study employed the gravity model using the Poisson Pseudo Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimation to analyze the factors affecting bilateral export from the four major natural rubber exporters to 46 countries in the region. The analysis is conducted by using annual data from 2001 till 2018. The findings showed that all four major exporters maintained their export competitiveness. Indonesia and Vietnam notably exhibited increasing trends in the early 2000s. Besides, the market share for Malaysia and Vietnam have increased from 2013 to 2015 with the BRI implementation in 2013. In addition, this study discovered that non-tariff measures (NTM) have a positive and significant impact on the bilateral export of natural rubber. The overall findings strongly indicate that the natural rubber export has increased post BRI announcement. The outcome highlighted the benefits of BRI implementation on the natural rubber export. This study is the first attempt to apply the gravity model on the natural rubber exports within the BRI region.

V-rib 벨트용 EPDM과 CR의 고온 내구성과 기계적 물성에 미치는 충전제의 영향 (Thermal and Mechanical Properties of EPDM and CR Compounds with Various Fillers and Its Contents for V-rib Belt)

  • 본 연구는 자동차 엔진의 구동을 각종 부대 장치로 전달하는데 사용되는 V-rib 벨트 재료의 내열성 및 내마모성을 향상시키기 위한 연구이다. 이를 위하여 고무 매트릭스는 EPDM과 CR, 그리고 충전제로 ZnO, 면 및 아라미드 섬유의 함량을 달리한 시편과 v-벨트를 만들어 내열성과 내마모성 그리고 기계적 성질을 조사하였다. CR 배합계에서 ZnO의 함량이 증가함에 따라 내마모성이 증가하였다. 또한 면섬유의 함량이 증가함에 따라 벨트상태에서 견딜 수 있는 구동시간은 증가하지만 내마모성은 감소하는 결과를 보였다. EPDM 배합계에서 면섬유의 충전한계는 30 phr정도였다. 또한 아라미드와 면섬유를 혼합 사용한 결과 구동시간과 내마모성을 동시에 증가시킬 수 있었으며, 그 단섬유의 최적 조성은 아라미드섬유/면섬유 비율이 1/5인 것으로 조사되었다. 동일한 면섬유 함량에서 EPDM 배합계 가 CR 배합계보다 우수한 물성을 보였다.

자동차의 타이밍벨트, 등속조인트 부트, 웨더 스트립에 관련된 고장사례 고찰 (Failure Examples Study Including with timing belt, Constant Velocity Boot and Weather strip on a Car)

  • 이 논문은 자동차 타이밍벨트, 등속조인트 부트, 웨더 스트립에 적용되는 고무시스템의 손상이나 내구성 약화에 대한 사례 연구를 하는 것이 목적이다. 첫 번째 사례에서는 신품의 타이밍 벨트를 교환할 때 벨트의 내구성이 떨어진 벨트를 교환하여 타이밍 벨트와 스프로킷의 마찰작용에 의해 비정상적으로 타이밍 벨트 캔버스가 마멸된 것을 확인하였다. 두 번째 사례에서는 등속 조인트에 그리스의 밀봉역할을 하는 고무 부트의 내구성이 떨어져 경화되고 갈라져 이 틈으로 그리스가 누설된 것을 확인하였다. 세 번째 사례에서는 웨더 스트립이 화학적 변화에 따른 균열로 재료 변형이 생겨 웨더 스트립 고무가 찢어졌다. 이러한 현상은 문을 닫을 때 웨더 스트립 고무를 겹쳐지게 해 운행중 외부공기가 유입되어 미세한 소음이 발생되는 것을 확인했다.따라서, 자동차에 적용되는 고무재질의 부품들의 내구성 약화나 손상으로 인한 자동차의 고장사례가 발생하지 않도록 관리하여야 한다.

  • Tire subjected to inflation pressure and the load of passenger car has a important roll to dynamic performance characteristics of radial tires such as cornering and braking. These performance characteristics are directly related to the belt cord durability of tires. In this paper, we analyze the mechanism of belt cord broken due to cord tension at braking theoretically.

  • In this study, Mooney-Rivlin 1st model and Mooney-Rivlin 3rd model are adopted as strain energy density functions of the rubber compounds of a radial tire. It is shown that the FE analysis using Mooney-Rivlin models for rubber compounds may provide good approximations by employing the appropriate strain range of experimental stress-strain data in a way to describe the stress-strain relationship accurately. Especially, Mooney-Rivlin 3rd model gives an accurate stress-strain relationship regardless of the fitting strain range used within the strain of 100%. The static nonlinear FE analysis of a tire inflation is performed by employing an axisymmetric model, which shows that the outside shapes of the tire before and after inflating the tire agree well with those of the real tire. Additionally, the deformations at crown center and turning point on sidewall, distribution of belt cord force, interlaminar shear strain are predicted in terms of variation of belt cord angle which is known as the most influential factor in inflation behavior of a tire.

호흡 감지를 위한 복부 부착형 전도성 고무소자의 계측특성 (Characteristics of conductive rubber belt on the abdomen to monitor respiration)

  • Conductive rubber material was molded in a belt shape to measure respiration. Its resistivity was approximately $0.03{\;}{\Omega}m$ and the resistance-displacement relationship showed a negative exponent. The temperature coefficient was approximately $0.006{\;}k{\Omega}/^{\circ}C$ negligible when practically applied on the abdomen. The conductive rubber belt was applied on a normal male's abdomen with the dimensional change measured during resting breathing. The abdominal signal was differentiated ($F_{m}$) and compared with the accurate standard air flow rate signal ($F_{s}$) obtained by pneumotachometry. $F_{m}$ and $F_{s}$ differed in waveform, but the start and end timings of each breaths were clearly synchronized, demonstrating that the respiratory frequency could be accurately estimated before further processing of $F_{m}$. $F_{m}-F_{s}$ loop showed a nonlinear hysteresis within each breath period, thus 6 piecewise linear approximation was performed, leading to a mean relative error of 14 %. This error level was relatively large for clinical application, though customized calibration seemed feasible for monitoring general variation of ventilation. The present technique would be of convenient and practical application as a new wearable respiratory transducer.

차량용 고무 및 금속 V-벨트 CVT의 변속비-부하토크-축력특성과 성능비교 (Comparison of speed ratio-torque load-axial force characteristics and their performance for automotive rubber and metal V-belt CVT)

  • The speed ratio-torque load-axial force characteristics of a rubber V-belt (RVB) and a metal V-belt (MVB) CVT are investigated and their performances are compared. It is found that power is transmitted by tension difference in RVB, and by thrust difference in MVB. The nondimensional equations for speed ratio-torque load-axial force of RVB are exactly same as those of MVB. However, actual characteristics of axial forces of RVB and MVB are different depending on their power transmission methods. The torque capacity of MVB is 5-6 times higher than that of RVB due to MVB's higher strength, even if the required axial force of MVB CVT control is 3-4 times higher than that of RVB.

  • Test of Caterpillar Challenger 65 tractor which has rubber tracks, and articulated four wheel drive tractor with dual wheels and a mechanical front wheel drive tractor were conducted on an unplowed and plouwed wheat stubble field. The following parameters were analyzed : tractive efficiency (ηv), net tractive coefficient ($\phi$n), slip ($\sigma$) , drawbar pull(Fv), drawbar power (Pv) and forward velocity(v). The maximum net tractive coefficient was established at the tractive efficiency of 0.60 on the unplowed wheat stubble field : for the Challenger 65 tractor 0.855 ; 4WD 0.624 and MFWD 0.534 and on the plowed wheat stubble field with the tractive efficiency of 0.40 for the Challenger 65 tractor 0.82 : 4WD 0.57 and for tractor MFWD 0.48.
