A large scale model test to investigate the pressure drop and heat transer characteristics in the air side of two-row heat exchanger (2열 휜 튜브 열교환기의 공기측 압력강하 및 열전달 특성을 고찰하기 위한 확대 모형실험)

  • This work is performed to investigate the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics in the air side of finned-tube heat exchanger for air conditioner. Experimental apparatus and method are described to simulate the heat exchanger performance by using the three times enlarged model. The pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient were measured and compared for the heat exchangers with a plane fin and a commercial strip fin. The measured data for the strip fin agree well with those of prototype within a few percentages. For the plane fin, the measured data had similar trend to Gray & Webb's correlation at high air velocity, however a new correlation is needed to give more accurate prediction at low air velocity. It is found that most heat was transferred around the front row of the two-row heat exchanger, and the ratio of thermal load at the front tube row was increased for decreasing air velocity.

Study on Optimum Curve Driving of Four-row Tracked Vehicle in Soft Ground using Multi-body Dynamics (다물체 동역학을 이용한 연약 지반 4열 궤도 차량의 최적 선회 주행 연구)

  • This paper proposes an optimum curve driving method for adeep-seabed mining robot(MineRo) in deep-sea soft ground. MineRo was designed as afour-row tracked vehicle. A study on the turning methods for the four-row tracked vehicle was conducted using three case by changing the velocity profile of each track. The configuration of the four-row tracked vehicle and soft ground equation are introduced, along with the dynamics analysis models of MineRo and soft ground, which were constructed using the commercial software DAFUL. Because the purpose of this study was to investigate a driving method on soft ground, the marine environment of the deep sea was not considered.

  • This Paper reports that a new remote sensing techlique focused on a narrow and long strip target (e.g. 15m wide and 100km long) has been specifically developed for pipeline ROW (Right-Of-Way) recovery monitoring. With video it was possible to isolate the maior vegetation communities of the narrow pipeline ROW with acceptable spatial precision by visual or quantitative methods. It was particuarly useful when used to assess a variety of spatial patch dynamics for ROW recovery through digital change-detection techniques in a GIS environment. The main conclusion of this paper is that VSM is a realistic operational technique for a pipeline ROW application. The results also indicate that VSM could be extensively used for other examples of linear thematic mapping.

  • This paper presents a study on Vane Tidal Turbine (VTT) focusing on analysis of two types of blade arrangement originated from the previous studies where the original design was examined and performance-tested for different numbers of blades (six, eight and twelve). Compared to conventional tidal turbines, VTT has several special features and potential advantages which have been being thoroughly developed. The purpose of this study is to analyze VTT's capability of extracting and converting the hydrokinetic energy of tidal currents into electricity at given arrangement of blades (single and double rows, six and twelve blades) using CFD. From the calculation results, the six-blade single row turbine shows the best performance, in which the highest power and torque coefficients reach up to about 34 % and 36 %, respectively, at TSR=0.94. However, despite of lower power coefficient, by adding more blades, the torque's extraction of twelve-blade turbine, especially the double row type, is less fluctuate than that of the six-blade setups.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a new row signal modulation method in order to display multi-gray image using super-twisted nematic liquid crystal display (STN-LCD), which has no complex computation, high selection ratio, and low driving voltage. By the proposed method, we have implemented a 320*240, 8-gray video-rate STN-LCD. For achieving a video-rate STN-LCD, 6 lines are selected at a time. Each row line is selected 8 times by equally distributed pulses throughout one frame. As a result, we can get 8 gray, video-rate image. The repetive horizontal pattern and the filckering was analyzed and the improvements have been presented.

  • In the design of digital system, designers use multi-layer LSI to connect all signal sets between circuit modules. This paper suggests how to minimize upper street congestions and lower congestions in the single-row routing, a routing method of multi-layer LSI. This paper suggests the heuristic algorithm which minimize upper street congestions and lower street congestions by suggesting interval graph and relational operator and finding out of the order of signal sets The algorithm was implemented on a VAX-11/780 computer and illustrated by means of examples.

A One-Pass Standard Cell Placement Algorithm Using Multi-Stage Graph Model (다단 그래프 모델을 이용한 빠른 표준셀 배치 알고리즘)

  • We present a fast, constructive algorithm for the automatic placement of standard cells, which consists of two steps. The first step is responsible for cell-row assignment of each cell, and converts the circuit connectivity into a multi-stage graph under to constraint that sum of the cell-widths in each stage of the multi-state graph does not exceed maximum cell-row width. Generatin of feed-through cells in the final layout was shown to be drastically reduced by this step. In the second step, the position of each cell within the row is determined one by one from left to right so that the cost function such as the local channel density is minimized. Our experimental result shows that this algorithm yields near optimal results in terms of the number of feed-through cells and the horizontal tracks, while running about 100 times faster than other iterative procedures such as pairwise interchange and generalized force directed relaxation method.

Comparison of Yield in Aiternating Crop System Mixed of Tillering Hybrid Corn and Soybean (분얼형(分蘖型) 옥수수 교잡종(交雜種)과 대두(大豆)의 교호작(交互作)에 대한 수량(收量) 비교(比較) 시험(試驗))

  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of alternating planting systems of soybean and tillering hybrid corn on yield of both crops. The planting systems included monocultures of both crops. 1 to 1 row ratio, 1 to 2 row ratio, 1 to 3 row ratio, 2 to 1 row ratio, 2 to 3 row ratio, 3 to 1 row ratio, 3 to 2 row ratio and 3 to 3 row ratio of soybean and corn. The results obtained are summarized as follows : The plant height of soybean was increased as the number of planting rows of corn increased. But the plant, height of soybean was quite stabilized when the ratio of soybean planting rows increased. When the plant height of soybean was increased due to the increased row number of corn, the branch number and diameter of soybean decreased and lodging ratio increased. Total fresh weight of soybean per 10a was decreased as the ratio of soybean planting decreased and it was increased when the ratio of soybean planting increased over monoculture of soybean. Dry weight of soybean per 10a showed the same tendency of the fresh weight. But the highest grain yield of soybean was obtained in the monoculture of soybean and it was 276 kg/10a. Comparatively high yield of soybean was obtained in the systems of 2 to 1 and 3 to 3 ratios. The plant height, number of tillers and number of ears per plant of tillering corn were greatly affected by the alternating planting of soybean and they were 208.9cm, 2.1 and 4 per plant, respectively. The fresh and dry weights and yield of corn per 10a showed significant differences among systems. The average fresh and dry weight of corn in the systems of 3 to 1 and 2 to 1 were 1000 kg and 100 kg higher than those of monoculture of corn. The kernel yields of corn per 10a were 438 kg in the monoculture system and 530 kg in the systems of 3 to 2 and 2 to 1. The total fresh weights of corn and soybean in systems of 3 to 1, 3 to 2 and 2 to 1 were higher than 5721 kg of soybean and 4358 kg of corn in the monoculture. Combined dry weight was high in the order of monoculture, 2 to 1 and 3 to 1 row ratios. Combined grain yield was high in the systems of 2 to 1 and 3 to 1 row ratios and it was over 430 kg per 10a.

Laminar Flow Structures Near a Circular Cylinder in between a Free-Surface and a Moving Wall (자유수면과 움직이는 벽면 사이에 놓인 원형 실린더 주위의 층류 유동구조)

  • The present study numerically investigates the interaction between a free-surface and flow around a circular cylinder over a moving wall. In order to simulate the flow past the circular cylinder over a moving wall near a free-surface, this study has adopted the direct-forcing/fictitious domain (DF/FD) method with the level set method in the Cartesian coordinates. Numerical simulation is performed for a Reynolds numbers of 100 in the range of $0.25{\leq}g/D{\leq}2.00$ and $0.5{\leq}h/D{\leq}2.00$, where g/D and h/D are the gaps between the cylinder and a moving wall and the cylinder and a free-surface normalized by cylinder diameter D, respectively. According to g/D and h/D, the vortex structures have been classified into three patterns of the two-row, one-row, steady elongation. In general, both of g/D and h/D have the large values which mean the cylinder is far away from the wall and the free-surface, two-row vortex structure forms in the wake. When g/D decreases, the two-row vortex structure gradually transfers into the one-row vortex structure. When the g/D reveals the critical value below which the flow becomes steady state, resulting in the steady elongation vortex.

Flow structures around rectangular cylinder in the vicinity of a wall

  • A numerical study is conducted on the flow characteristics of a rectangular cylinder (chord-to-width ratio C/W = 2 - 10) mounted close to a rigid wall at gap-to-width ratios G/W = 0.25 - 6.25. The effects of G/W and C/W on the Strouhal number, vortex structure, and time-mean drag and lift forces are examined. The results reveal that both G/W and C/W have strong influences on vortex structure, which significantly affects the forces on the cylinder. An increase in G/W leads to four different flow regimes, namely no vortex street flow (G/W < 0.75), single-row vortex street flow ($0.75{\leq}G/W{\leq}1.25$), inverted two-row vortex street flow ($1.25<G/W{\leq}2.5$), and two-row vortex street flow (G/W > 2.5). Both Strouhal number and time-mean drag are more sensitive to C/W than to G/W. For a given G/W, Strouhal number grows with C/W while time-mean drag decays with C/W, the growth and decay being large between C/W = 2 and 4. The time-mean drag is largest in the single-row vortex street regime, contributed by a large pressure on the front surface, regardless of C/W. A higher C/W, in general, leads to a higher time-mean lift. The maximum time-mean lift occurs for C/W = 10 at G/W = 0.75, while the minimum time-mean lift appears for C/W = 2 at the same G/W. The impact of C/W on the time-mean lift is more substantial in single-row vortex regime. The effect of G/W on the time-mean lift is larger at a larger C/W.
