Energy-aware Routing Protocol using Multi-route Information in Wireless Ad-hoc Networks with Low Mobility (저이동성을 갖는 무선 애드혹 망에서 다중 경로 정보를 이용한 에너지 인지 라우팅 프로토콜)

  • We present a method for increasing network lifetime without link failure due to lack of battery capacity of nodes in wireless ad-hoc networks with low mobility. In general, a node with larger remaining battery capacity represents the one with lesser traffic load. Thus, a modified AODV routing protocol is proposed to determine a possible route by considering a remaining battery capacity of a node. Besides, the total energy consumption of all nodes increase rapidly due to the huge amount of control packets which should be flooded into the network. To reduce such control packets efficiently, a source node can store information about alternative routes to the destination node into its routing table. When a link failure happens, the source node should retrieve the route first with the largest amount of the total remaining battery capacity from its table entries before initiating the route rediscovery process. To do so, the possibility of generating unnecessary AODV control packets should be reduced. The method proposed in this paper increases the network lifetime by 40% at most compared with the legacy AODV and MMBCR.

  • The vehicle navigation system is developed for helping driver to retrieve driving information more easily and lastly. Navigation System informs driver many pieces of driving information - roadway structure and system, on-line traffic condition, the position of vehicle, route guidance, destination and other infor- mation service. As the style of information is diverse and the amount of information is large, driver may have mental and visual overload. The display of information can disturb the driver's attention and this can cause accidents. This state is caused by the defect of human-machine interactions. When the navigation system is designed, human factors - cognitive, judgment, operating -must be considered. The display style must be designed simply and easily, not to be obstacle of human - machine interface. In this study, outside- in view display style and inside-out view display style are compared each other. Tow factors are measured. One is cognitive factor-time of cognition on information that is displayed by screen display, cognition error rate. The other is image of screen display - subject's feeling about several styles of display, degree of subject's preference. The prototype of roadway is four kinds -Cross, T-cross and O-cross. Roadway display for test is taken from paper maps. Traffic condition display style, vehicle position display style and route guidance display style are taken from current display style. Traffic condition display style is symbol. vehicle position display style and route guidance display style are described as color and symbol. The test on screen display is implemented doing given tasks. Then the test is analyzed statistically. The result of test analysis gives the guideline to the designer for the map display of the vehicle navigation system.

Android Application for Connecting Cycling Routes on Strava Segments

  • Relatively few countries provide separate bicycle lanes for cyclists. Hence, tools for suggesting cycling routes are essential for a safe and pleasant cycling experience. This study aims to develop a mobile application to build cycling routes based on user preferences, specifically location, search radius, ride distance, and number of optimal routes. Our application calls the Strava API to retrieve Strava cycling segments crowdsourced from the cycling community. Then, it creates a graph consisting of the start and end points of these segments. Beginning from a user-specified location, the depth-first search algorithm (DFS) is applied to find routes that conform to the user's preferences. Next, a set of optimal routes is obtained by computing a trade-off ratio for every discovered route. This ratio is calculated from the lengths of all segments and the lengths of all connecting paths. The connected routes can be displayed on a map on an Android device or exported as a GPX file to a bike computer. Future work must be performed to improve the design of the user interface and user experience.

  • Pedestrians perceive differently from the sideway views or the exteriors of the buildings on the way to their destinations. Therefore, the navigation experience can become much different when the path was chosen based on the individual's preference from it is not. By focusing on the effects of the individual pedestrian' path choice on their navigation, this paper presents an algorithm designed for pedestrians to be able to explore their preferred path and proposes a prototype of navigation system based on the algorithm. The navigation support system searches for the best path upon their individual preferences and information of the destination. The system provides the process of retrieving the final path via the pedestrian-support system interaction. The path retrieval is peformed with the combinational matrix of keywords that are formulates Fuzzy theory from the correlations between the terms describing preferences used in the path preference survey. This paper presents the potentials of the path finding method tailored to pedestrians' preferences by a simulation of the proposed path retrieval algorithm.

  • Accumulations of the storage proteins in protein storage vacuole and the differentiation of protein bodies from protein-filled ER in developing pea cotyledons have been investigated using conventional and immunoelectron microscopy. To improve the fixation quality, single cells separated enzymatically from sliced cotyledons were used. At early stages of seed development osmiophilic protein accumulates in rER lumen were observed quite often. This protein-filled ER cisternae were differentiated into cytoplasmic protein bodies at late stage by the process called terminal dilations which have been considered a principal route of the formation of cytoplasmic protein bodies somewhat later in seed maturation. Immunocytochemical labellings of the vicilin and legumin show that presence of vicilin on both of the cytoplasmic PB and PD, but limited presence of legumin only on the cytoplasmic PB at intermediate stage of seed development. Immunogold labellings of Bip, ER retention protein, were observed on the inner periphery of protein deposits in protein storage vacuole. This result was regarded that Bip can recognize and retrieve misfolded protein during active accumulation of storage protein to the PD in PSV.

  • This study analyzes the effect of a handshake location of an AS/RS with twin cranes for mixed-model production line at an automobile plant. Implementing a handshake operation has the advantage for preventing route interference between twin cranes that operate without crossing into each other's working areas. However the handshake operation requires additional unloading and loading processes to retrieve assembly parts beyond the handshake area. Therefore the decision regarding the handshake location is crucial to improve efficiency of storage and retrieval operations. Simulation results show that the handshake operation with the optimal handshake location reduces the average response time of storage requests to 87% compared to non-handshake operation.

ACE-BIS: A Cost-Effective Bus Information System (ACE-BIS: 최적의 버스 노선을 선택하기 위한 비용 효율적인 알고리즘의 개발)

  • Due to the rapid development in mobile communication technologies, the usage of mobile devices such as cellular phones and PDAs becomes increasingly popular. One of the best ways to maximize the usability of mobile devices is to make them aware of their current locations and the locations of other fixed and mobile objects. In this paper, we propose a cost-effective Bus Information System, ACE-BIS, which utilizes a mobile device to retrieve the bus routes to reach a destination from the current location. To accomplish this task, ACE-BIS maintains a small amount of information on bus stops and bus routes in a mobile device and runs a heuristic routing algorithm based on such information. When a user asks more accurate route information or calls for a 'leave later query', ACE-BIS entrusts the task to a server into which real-time traffic and bus location information is being collected. By separating the roles into a mobile device and a server, ACE-BIS is able to provide bus routes at the lowest cost for wireless communications, without imposing much burden to a server. The results of extensive experiments revealed that ACE-BIS is effective and scalable in most experimental settings.

Study on the Variation of Optical Properties of Asian Dust Plumes according to their Transport Routes and Source Regions using Multi-wavelength Raman LIDAR System (다파장 라만 라이다 시스템을 이용한 발원지 및 이동 경로에 따른 황사의 광학적 특성 변화 연구)

  • The continuous observations for atmospheric aerosol were carried out during 3 years (2009-2011) by using a multi-wavelength Raman lidar at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Korea ($35.11^{\circ}N$, $126.54^{\circ}E$). The particle depolarization ratios were retrieved from the observations in order to distinguish the Asian dust layer. The vertical information of Asian dust layers were used as input parameter for the Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model for analysis of its backward trajectories. The source regions and transport pathways of the Asian dust layer were identified. The most frequent source region of Asian dust in Korea was Gobi desert during observation period in this study. The statistical analysis on the particle depolarization ratio of Asian dust was conducted according to their transport route in order to retrieve the variation of optical properties of Asian dust during long-range transport. The transport routes were classified into the Asian dust which was transported to observation site directly from the source regions, and the Asian dust which was passed over pollution regions of China. The particle depolarization ratios of Asian dust which were transported via industrial regions of China was ranged 0.07-0.1, whereas, the particle depolarization ratio of Asian dust which was transported directly from the source regions to observation site were comparably higher and ranged 0.11-0.15. It is considered that the pure Asian dust particle from source regions were mixed with pollution particles, which is likely to spherical particle, during transportation so that the values of particle depolarization of Asian dust mixed with pollution was decreased.
