Multiple Path Based Vehicle Routing in Dynamic and Stochastic Transportation Networks

  • In route guidance systems fastest-path routing has typically been adopted because of its simplicity. However, empirical studies on route choice behavior have shown that drivers use numerous criteria in choosing a route. The objective of this study is to develop computationally efficient algorithms for identifying a manageable subset of the nondominated (i.e. Pareto optimal) paths for real-time vehicle routing which reflect the drivers' preferences and route choice behaviors. We propose two pruning algorithms that reduce the search area based on a context-dependent linear utility function and thus reduce the computation time. The basic notion of the proposed approach is that ⅰ) enumerating all nondominated paths is computationally too expensive, ⅱ) obtaining a stable mathematical representation of the drivers' utility function is theoretically difficult and impractical, and ⅲ) obtaining optimal path given a nonlinear utility function is a NP-hard problem. Consequently, a heuristic two-stage strategy which identifies multiple routes and then select the near-optimal path may be effective and practical. As the first stage, we utilize the relaxation based pruning technique based on an entropy model to recognize and discard most of the nondominated paths that do not reflect the drivers' preference and/or the context-dependency of the preference. In addition, to make sure that paths identified are dissimilar in terms of links used, the number of shared links between routes is limited. We test the proposed algorithms in a large real-life traffic network and show that the algorithms reduce CPU time significantly compared with conventional multi-criteria shortest path algorithms while the attributes of the routes identified reflect drivers' preferences and generic route choice behaviors well.

  • A bi-modal tram can travel in not only dedicated way but also road so as to reduce construction costs and increase vehicle operation efficiency, whose passenger capacity is 2,500 to 7,000 persons/direction/hour. A bi-modal has an electronic guidance system that knows the location and route of the vehicle, and uses magnetic markers in the road surface for reference. Since a bi-modal tram will be operated in the downtown area, there is some possibility that strong wind occurred between high-rise buildings can produce sudden lateral movement (displacement) of the vehicle to influence its automatic operation controlled by electronic guidance system. For bi-modal tram in the automatic operation mode, lateral movements occurred by strong wind were calculated and analyzed in the dynamic model developed by using the ADAMS. Some useful relations among vehicle speeds, wind speeds, and lateral behaviors were discussed in this paper.

  • This paper describes the mobile robot system to recognize the guidance tape, and presents the locomotion algorithm. This system converts video imago to binary image by setting an optimal threshold and obtains the parameters to move the robot. The mobile robot moves according to the programmed route in memory. But after recognized the obstacle on the locomotion routs, this system constructs the new route and the robot moves following the new route.

도시부 ATIS 효율적 적용을 위한 탐색영역기법 및 양방향 링크탐색 알고리즘의 구현 (An Integration of Searching Area Extraction Scheme and Bi-directional Link Searching Algorithm for the Urban ATIS Application)

  • The shortest path algorithm for route guidance is implicitly required not only to support geometrical variations of transportation network such as U-TURN or P-TURN but to efficiency search reasonable routes in searching mechanism. The purpose of this paper is to integrate such two requirements ; that is, to allow U-TURN and P-TURN possibilities and to cut down searching time in locating routes between two points (origin and destination) in networks. We also propose a new type of link searching algorithm which can solve the limitation of vine building algorithm at consecutively left-turn prohibited intersections. The test site is a block of Gangnam road network that has some left-turn prohibited and allowed U-TURN intersections. Four models have been identified to be comparatively analyzed in terms of searching efficiency. The Models are as follows : (i) Model 1 - Link Searching Dijkstra Algorithm without Searching Area Extraction (SAE) ; (ii) Model 2 - Link Searching Dijkstra Algorithm with SAE ; (iii) Model 3 - Link Searching Bidirectional Dijkstra Algorithm without SAE ; and (iv) Model 4 - Link Searching Bidirectional Dijkstra Algorithm with SAE. The results of comparative evaluation show that Model 4 can effectively find optimum path faster than any other models as expected. Some discussions and future research agenda have been presented in the light of dynamic route guidance application of the urban ATIS.

차량 항법 시스템 환경에서 Ad Hoc Relaying System을 이용한 효과적인 실시간 정보 제어 기법 (Effective Real-Time Information Control Algorithm Using Ad Hoc Relaying System for Car Navigation Systems)

  • 차량 항법 시스템(Car Navigation System)은 요즘 많은 발전을 거듭하여 차량 이용시 사용자가 가고자하는 목적지까지의 길을 쉽게 안내하고 있다. 이런 기술의 발전은 단순한 정적인 길 안내(Static Route Guidance) 뿐만 아니라. 동적인 길 안내(Dynamic Route Guidance)를 함으로써 자동차 운전자가 쉽고 빠른 길을 안내 받을 수 있게 되었다. 그러나 이러한 교통정보는 매우 변화가 심하므로 최초로 경로를 전송 받은 후 그 경로상에 교통정보가 변화하였다면, 이미 전송 받은 경로는 실시간으로 적극적으로 대응할 수 없고 실제 막히는 길로 안내할 수 있다. 목적지까지의 거리가 먼 경우 이런 현상이 더욱 심하게 나타날 수 있다. 이런 경우 운전자는 실제로는 막히는 길로 안내 받을 수 밖에 없다. 이런 문제점을 해결하기 위해 교통정보를 수집하는 기존의 시스템에 Ad Hoc 네트워킹이 가능한 시스템을 탑재한 교통정보 수집 차량(Probe Car)을 이용한다. 정보 수집 차량이 극심한 정체를 발견하면 근처를 지나는 경로를 가진 차량에게 이를 전달하여 새로운 경로를 다운받을 수 있도록 한다. 이런 방법은 Ad Hoc Relaying System〔l〕을 이용하여 가능하며, 센터에 수집되고 가공되는 시간을 최대한 줄일 수 있으며, 센터의 통신 오버헤드를 최소화할 수 있다. 또한 기지국에 호가 집중되어 call blocking이 발생함 경우에 이를 해결할 수 있다.

도로 주행환경 변화와 핸들종류에 따른 운전자 부하 및 행동특성 (Driver Characteristics and Workload according to Changing Driving Environment and Types of Steering Wheel)

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the driving performance and workload according to changing driving environment and types of steering wheel. Twelve drivers who participated in this study consisted of two groups; six Japanese as the left-lane drivers who was accustomed to driving on left-hand side of the road, and six Europeans, Americans, and Korean as the right-lane drivers who was accustomed to driving on right-hand side of the road. They were asked to operate a driving simulator while using two different types of steering wheel (for the left-hand side driving and the right-hand side driving). During the experiment, a range of data were measured including driving performance, mental workload, and eye movements which were recorded in order to identify the amount of time looking towards the in-vehicle route guidance. Results indicated that the use of the steering wheel by parallel moving led to increase high attentional demand and worse glance behavior to traffic signs for the left-lane drivers. In the case of the right-lane drivers, the effects by changing driving direction were more effective than the types of steering wheel due to their habit or traits.

교차로 인지와 방향지시등 조작 지점에 관한 검토 (Position of Intersection Recognition and Tum Signal Operation Approaching at Target Intersection)

  • In-vehicle route guidance information(RGI) systems have been developed with the advancement of the information and communication technologies. However, the RGI is provided by a pre-determined option, drivers occasionally pass the target intersection owing to non- or late- recognizing it. The purpose of this experiment is to examine the position of driver's tum signal operation and intersection recognition approaching at the target intersection which is difficult to identify as a preliminary research on developing the additional RGI connecting with the tum signal control. The field experiment was conducted to measure distances of the turn signal operation and intersection recognition from the target intersection according to driving lanes and landmarks at adjacent intersection. And, glance behavior to the car navigation display was evaluated by using an eye camera. The results indicate that drivers operate the turn signal after confirming a landmark in the case of the intersection with it. However, most case of driving, drivers operate the tum signal at 40 to 50m before coming to the target. To provide the additional RGI, when drivers do not operate the tum signal approaching at the target intersection based on the results, is expected to improve the traffic safety and the comfort for drivers.

The Design and Implementation of Mobile Application Solution for Forest Fire based on Drone Photography and Amazon Web Service (AWS)

  • Last year's Goseong-Sokcho forest fires have highlighted the limitations of extinguishing work for night-time forest fire and the importance of quick identification for information on the spread of forest fire. However, it is not easy to find services that take into account the characteristics of forest fires, as most existing disaster-related mobile applications and research assume various disaster situations rather than just forest fire situations. Therefore, a system that can provide information quickly is needed, taking into account the characteristics of forest fires and the limitations of extinguishing work. In this paper, we propose evacuation route guidance services that bypass areas where fire has already spread, supplement existing methods of extinguishing work, and provide general information on forest fire situations in real time, by putting drones into forest fire situations. It has been implemented to automate image analysis using the Rekognition service of Amazon Web Service (AWS), and the results of fire detection and the T Map API guide the evacuation path. It is expected that the results of this paper will allow efficient and rapid rescue and extinguishing work to be carried out, and further reduce the damage of human life caused by forest fires.

동적 경로안내시스템에서 벡터 지오데이터의 관리를 위한 다중 해상도 모델 (A Multi-Resolution Database Model for Management of Vector Geodata in Vehicle Dynamic Route Guidance System)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 벡터 도메인 안에 대규모 도로 선형 사상을 대상으로 실시간 데이터 변경, 관리가 가능한 네트워크의 다중 표현 데이터베이스 모델을 구축하는 것이다. 즉, 최상위 레벨의 네트워크 데이터로부터 이에 대응하는 하위 베이스 네트워크 데이터로 순차적으로 데이터 통합과 자동 매칭을 수행하는 상의하달 방식(top-down)을 기초로 하는 프레임워크를 제시하며, 이를 통해 변화 가능한 축척(variable-scale)의 지도를 생성하는 모델을 제안하였다. 구현된 MRDB(Multi-Resolution Database) 모델을 차량 항법 서비스에 적용하여 실제 동적 경로 안내 시스템에 활용 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • ITS 의 한 분야인 첨단교통정보체계 (ATIS: Advance Traveler Information System)는 운전자들에게 통행 전 (pre-trip). 통행 중 (en-route) 교통정보를 제공함으로서 운전자의 경로선택과정에 영향을 미쳐 도로망의 교통량 분산효과를 추구하는 시스템이다. 이중 도로상에서 운전자가 진행하는 방향에 대한 직접적인 정보를 제공하는 VMS 는 ATIS의 정보제공방안중 가장 효과적인 수단이 될 수 있다. 이러한 때 VMS의 정보제공목표는 단순현황정보만을 제공하는 운전자 편의측면과 교통수요를 관리하여 시스템의 성능을 증진시키는 시스템 제어측면으로 구분이 가능하다 하지만 보다 효율적인 도로전광표지의 정보제공을 위해서는 시스템제어 측면의 정보제공이 이루어져야 할 것이다 이러한 교통관리시스템(traffic management system)으로서 VMS 핵심적인 관리전략은 혼잡 (traffic congestion) 또는 돌발 상황(incident)발생 시 지체 (delay)를 최소하기 위한 교통우회전략(Traffic Diversion Strategy)이라 할 수 있다 이를 효과적으로 운영하기 위해서는 첫째, 교통상황 (network traffic condition)에 따라 적정한 우회교통량 (diversion traffic volume) 의 산정이 선행되어야 하고 둘째, 이러한 우회교통량을 제어하기 위해서는 VMS 정보내용 (VMS massage contents)에 따른 운전자의 행태(driver response behavior)가 반영된 정보제공전략 (providing information strategy)이 수립되어야 한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 돌발 상황 발생에 의해 혼잡이 야기될 때 VMS 실시간 경로안내 정보제공에 대해 초점을 맞추었다 이를 위해 첫째로, CA(Cellular Automata) 기반 교통류 사율레이션을 모형을 이용뼈 통행시간 및 대기행렬의 변화가 반영된 시간대별 시스템 최적경로 전환율을 산정하였다. 둘째로, 이항로짓 모형을 이용하여 운영자가 제어할 수 있는 정보특성에 대한 경로전환행태 모형 (route choice behavior model) 을 만들었다 마지막으로 시스템 최적상태 (system Optimum)의 달성을 위한 VMS의 시간대별 정보내용 및 강도를 결정하였다.
