Bale Location Effects on Nutritive Value and Fermentation Characteristics of Annual Ryegrass Bale Stored in In-line Wrapping Silage

  • In southeastern regions of the US, herbage systems are primarily based on grazing or hay feeding with low nutritive value warm-season perennial grasses. Nutritious herbage such as annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) may be more suitable for preserving as baleage for winter feeding even with more intensive production inputs. Emerging in-line wrapped baleage storage systems featuring rapid wrapping and low polyethylene film requirements need to be tested for consistency of storing nutritive value of a range of annual ryegrass herbage. A ryegrass storage trial was conducted with 24-h wilted 'Marshall' annual ryegrass harvested at booting, heading and anthesis stages using three replicated in-line wrapped tubes containing ten round bales per tube. After a six-month storage period, nutritive value changes and fermentation end products differed significantly by harvest stage but not by bale location. Although wilted annual ryegrass exhibited a restricted fermentation across harvest stages characterized by high pH and low fermentation end product concentrations, butyric acid concentrations were less than 1 g/kg dry matter, and lactic acid was the major organic acid in the bales. Mold coverage and bale aroma did not differ substantially with harvest stage or bale location. Booting and heading stage-harvested ryegrass baleage were superior in nutritive value to anthesis stage-harvested herbage. Based on the investigated nutritive value and fermentation characteristics, individual bale location within in-line tubes did not significantly affect preservation quality of ryegrass round bale silages.

원형 곤포사일리지에 발생한 곰팡이의 분류 동정 (Taxonomy and Identification of Fungi Isolated from Round Bale Silage)

  • 곤포사일리지에 발생하는 곰팡이를 분류 동정하기 위하여 2009년부터 2011년까지 253개의 오염된 곤포사일리지를 채집하였다. 이탈리안라이그라스 수단 그라스, 호밀, 옥수수, 보리와 귀리에서 분리한 총 253 목초 샘플을 분석했다. 채집된 곤포사일리지에서 총 270균주를 순수 분리하였고, 분리된 곰팡이의 형태와 rDNA sequence를 분석하여 분류 동정하였다. 분리한 곰팡이를 형태를 기준으로 분류 동정 한 결과 Rhizopus sp., Fusarium spp., Coprinus sp., Blastomyces sp., Aureobasidium sp., Polypaecilum sp., Botryoderma sp., Mucor sp., Scytalidium sp., Sphaeropsis sp., Aspergillus spp., Trichocladium sp., Humicola sp., Staphylotrichum sp., Periconia sp., Verticillium sp., Diplococcium sp., Penicillium spp., Trichoderma spp. 등 19종의 곰팡이가 분리 동정되었다. 한편, 사일리지에서 분리한 곰팡이의 염기서열을 분석한 결과 Acremonium strictum, Asperillus tubingensis, Bionectria ochroleuca Dipodascaceae sp., Fusarium proliferatum, Fusarium oxysporum, Fusrium solani, Gelasinospora reticulata, Gibberella monliliformis, Gibberella zeae, Nectria mauritiicola, Penicillium paneum, Pseudallecheria boydii, Schizaphyllum commune, Scoplariopsis brevicaulis, SimpliciIlium lamellicola로 분류 동정되었다. PenicIlliwn sp.와 Trichoderma sp.는 각각 74와 64균주가 분리되어 가장 많이 분리 동정되었고, Humicola sp., Aspergillus sp., Coprinus sp., Fusarium spp.도 10~30 균주가 분리 동정되었다. 곤포 사일리지에서의 대부분의 곰팡이는 한 종 이상의 곰팡이가 복합적으로 오염되었다.

제조 방법이 라운드베일 연맥 사일리지의 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Management Practices on the Quality of Round Baled Oat Silage)

  • This experiment was canied out to determine the effect of management practices on the quality of round baled oat silage at experimental field of Grassland and Forage Crops division, National Livestock Research Institute, RDA, Suwon from 1997 to 1998. The experiments are consist of randomized block design with 3 replications. The treatments are 3 wilting dates(0, 2 and 4 days), 3 wrap colors(white, black and green and 3 inoculant(untreated, Inoculant A and Inocuant B). The crude protein(CP) content was increased by prolonged wilting periods, but the effect of wrap color and inoculant were not founded. Acid detergent fiber(ADF) and neutral detergent fiber(NDF) content of all silages were not founded significant difference, but in vitro dry matter digestibility of oat silage with inoculant was significantly higher compare with control. Wilting treatment increased the mean silage acidity compare with control and inoculant treatment significantly reduced silage acidity. Wrap color did not influence the silage acidity. Wilting or inoculant treatments increased lactic acid content but, decreased the content of acetic and butyric acid. The quality grade of all silage were grade 3, except inoculant treated silage. Wilting or inoculant decreased silage DM loss, but wrap color did not effect on siage DM loss. The result of this study indicate that wilting for 2-4 days and inoculant will improve the silage fermentation and quality of round baled oat silage. Silage preparation and fermentation quality of natural grasses treated with lactic acid bacteria and cellulase in meadow steppe and typical steppe

  • Objective: In order to improve fermentation quality of natural grasses, their silage preparation and fermentation quality in meadow steppe (MS) and typical steppe (TS) were studied. Methods: The small-scale silages and round bale silages of mixed natural grasses in both steppes were prepared using the commercial lactic acid bacteria (LAB) inoculants Chikuso-1 (CH, Lactobacillus plantarum) and cellulase enzyme (AC, Acremonium cellulase) as additives. Results: MS and TS contained 33 and 9 species of natural grasses, respectively. Stipa baicalensis in MS and Stipa grandi in TS were the dominant grasses with the highest dry matter (DM) yield. The crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber and water-soluble carbohydrate of the mixed natural grasses in both steppes were 8.02% to 9.03%, 66.75% to 69.47%, and 2.02% to 2.20% on a DM basis, respectively. All silages treated with LAB and cellulase were well preserved with lower pH, butyric acid and ammonia-N content, and higher lactic acid and CP content than those of control in four kinds of silages. Compared with CH- or AC-treated silages, the CH+ AC-treated silages had higher lactic acid content. Conclusion: The results confirmed that combination with LAB and cellulase may result in beneficial effects by improving the natural grass silage fermentation in both grasslands.

유산균제 첨가가 라운드베일 목초 사일리지의 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Inoculants on the Quality of Round Baled Grass Silage)

  • 본 시험은 젖산균 첨가제가 목초 라운드베일 랩핑 사일리지의 품질에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 2년간 수행되었다. 시험구 배치는 난괴법 3반복으로 무처리, 첨가제 A, B, C로 하여 총 4처리를 두었다. 조지방, 조단백질, in vitro 건물 소화율은 첨가제를 처리한 구에서 높게 나타났다. 또한 첨가제 처리는 사일리지의 pH를 유의적으로 낮추었다(p<0.05). 건물 함량은 첨가제 처리구가 높았으며 첨가제 처리로 유기산 함량은 유의적인 차이를 보여주었다(p<0.05). 젖산 함량은 첨가제 처리로 증가되었으나 초산과 낙산 함량은 감소되었다. 건물손실과 사일리지 품질은 젖산균 첨가제 처리로 개선되는 효과를 보여 주었다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 볼 때 사일리지 조제시 미생물 첨가제의 이용은 사일리지의 발효와 품질을 개선시켜주는 것으로 나타났다.

Effect of Moisture Content and Storage Periods on Nutrient Composition and Organic Acids Change in Triticale Round Bale Silage

  • Livestock production costs are heavily influenced by the cost of feed, The use of domestically grown forages is more desirable for livestock feed production. As part of this study, triticale, which is an extremely palatable and easily cultivable crop in Korea, was used to produce low moisture silage bales with lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and then stored for different periods. We examined the nutrient content of silage, such as crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF), as well as their organic acids, including lactic acid, acetic acid, butyric acid, at different storage periods. The nutrient content of silages, such as crude protein, ADF, and NDF, did not change significantly throughout storage periods. Organic acid data indicated that lactic acid concentrations increased with increasing moisture contents and storage periods up to nine months. However, further extending storage to 12 months resulted in a reduction in the lactic acid content of all silages as well as an increase in their pH. Based on the present results, it suggested that the production of low moisture silage with the LAB may be able to preserve and maintain its quality without altering its nutritional composition. Also, the lactate content of the silage remained significant for at least nine months.

Silage Fermentative Quality and Characteristics of Anthocyanin Stability in Anthocyanin-rich Corn (Zea mays L.)

  • The fermentative quality and quantitative change in anthocyanin of anthocyanin-rich corn (Zea mays L.) during storage and in vitro ruminal fermentation were studied. The anthocyanin-rich corn silages in bag silo, drum silo and round bale had good fermentative qualities, such as low pH (5% DM) and butyric acid-free, and its quality was maintained for more than 370 d. The amount of anthocyanin in the anthocyanin-rich corn decreased after ensiling by about 45% (from 3.34 to 1.88 mg/g DM), but stayed constant after day 60. The in vitro incubation of the anthocyanin-rich corn with ruminal fluid revealed little degradation of anthocyanin. These results indicate that the anthocyanin had no negative effect on silage fermentation, and the anthocyanin-rich corn silage is utilizable for practical use as a feedstuff. Our results also demonstrate alteration of the anthocyanin content during storage, and show that anthocyanin-rich corn is a suitable antioxidant source for ruminants because of the high stability of the anthocyanin in ruminal fluid.

Effects of Different Cutting Height on Nutritional Quality of Whole Crop Barley Silage and Feed Value on Hanwoo Heifers

  • The present study evaluated the effects of different cutting height on nutritive value, fermentation quality, in vitro and in vivo digestibility of whole crop barley silage. Whole crop barley forage (Yuyeon hybrid) was harvested at height of 5, 10, and 15 cm from the ground level. Each cutting height was rolled to make round bale and ensiled for 100 days. After 100 days of ensiling, pH of silage was lower (p<0.05) in 5 cm, but no difference between 10 and 15 cm of cutting height. The content of lactate and lactate to acetate ratio were increased (p<0.05) in 5 cm of cutting height, whereas the acetate content was higher (p<0.05) in 10 and 15 cm than that of 5 cm cutting height. Aerobic stability was greater (p<0.05) in silages of 10 and 15 cm of cutting height. Three total mixed rations (TMR) were formulated with silages from the three different cutting heights (TMR5, TMR10, and TMR15) incorporated as forage at 70:30 ratio with concentrate (dry matter [DM] basis). In vitro dry matter digestibility was higher (p<0.05) in the TMR5 and TMR10 than that in TMR15, whereas in vitro neutral detergent fiber digestibility was higher (p<0.05) in the TMR10 and TMR15 than that in TMR5. Concentration of $NH_3-N$ was highest (p<0.05) in the TMR10 followed by TMR15 and TMR5. Total volatile fatty acid was decreased (p<0.05) with increased cutting height. The digestibility of DM and neutral detergent fiber were highest (p<0.05) in TMR15, than those in TMR5 and TMR10, whereas acid detergent fiber digestibility was higher (p<0.05) in TMR5 than that in TMR10. The results showed that increasing cutting height, at least up to 10 to 15 cm, of whole crop barley forage at harvest (Yuyeon) may be beneficial for making silage for TMR formulation and increasing digestibility of DM and NDF.

수수 × 수수 교잡종의 사일리지 제조방법에 따른 부위별 사료가치 및 품질 변화 (Changes of Nutritive Values and Qualities in Various Regions of Sorghum × Sorghum Hybrid Silage by Manufacture Method of Silage)

  • 본 연구는 완숙기에 있는 수수${\times}$수수 교잡종을 이용하여 사일리지 제조방법에 따른 사일리지 부위별 사료가치 및 품질에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 천안에 위치한 국립축산과학원 축산자원개발부에서 수행되었다. 수수${\times}$수수 교잡종 "SS405"는 5월 초순에 파종한 다음 완숙기에 수확하여 사일리지로 조제하였다. 제조방법에 따른 사일리지의 조단백질, NDF, ADF 및 TDN 함량 및 in vitro 건물소화율은 비슷한 수준을 보였다. 젖산균의 첨가에 상관없이 사일리지의 사료가치는 비슷한 수준을 보였다. 사일리지 부위별 조단백질 함량은 외부나 중간부위 보다 내부에서 약간의 감소를 보였으나 (P<0.05), NDF, ADF 및 TDN 함량 및 in vitro 건물소화율에서는 차이를 보이지 않았다. 원형 곤포사일리지의 젖산 함량은 소포장, 톤백 및 트랜치사일리지보다 유의적으로 감소하였으나 (P<0.05) 초산 함량 및 낙산함량은 사일리지 조제 방법에 따른 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 사일리지의 젖산, 초산 및 낙산 함량은 젖산균의 첨가에 상관없이 비슷한 함량을 보였다. 사일리지 부위별 젖산함량은 외부와 중간부 위보다 내부에서 약간 감소되는 현상을 보였으나 (p<0.05), 초산 및 낙산 함량은 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 따라서 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 수수${\times}$수수 교잡종 사일리지의 부위별 사료가치와 품질은 부위에 따라 영향을 받지 않았다.

2010 해남, 평창, 원주지역 갈대 등 야초 류의 이용실태와 사료가치 평가 (Utilization Survey and Forage Quality of Phragmites communis and Native Grasses in Haenam, Pyeongchang and Wonju Regions, 2010)

  • 본 연구는 부존 조사료자원 이용으로 수입사료를 줄이고 사료비를 절감하고자 2010년도에 전남 해남(간척지), 강원 평창(강변), 원주(섬강변), 전남 영광(와탄강변) 등 4개 지역에서 갈대와 억새 등 야초 자생지를 탐색하고, 수확 이용실태 조사와 함께 사료가치를 분석하였다. 전남 해남 해남목장 내 갈대(Phragmites communis) 위주의 야초 자생지는 300 ha로 예년에는 2회 곤포작업하여 연간 사일리지로 2,300~2,500톤(ha당 8톤)을 생산하였으나 2010년도는 1회 곤포조제로 사일리지 2,000톤(ha당 7톤)을 생산하였다. 유통가격은 롤 당 53천원으로 kg당 110원이었다. 곤포는 전량 자가소비하며, 외부 작업단에 롤 당 26천원의 작업비를 지불하였다. 연간 조수입은 2억 2,260만원이며, 소득은 1억원 수준(345천원/ha)이었다. 초장 150 cm의 갈대는 조단백질 8.4%, 상대사료가치 71.9 (건초 5등급), 건물 소화율 60.1%로 사료가치는 볏짚에 비해 약간 나은 것으로 평가되었다. 갈대 사일리지의 사료가치와 유기산 함량은 동일 지역에서 동일한 재료로 사일리지를 조제하더라도 수확시기에 따라 차이가 컸으며 (CP 4.7~6.4%, RFV 62.2~78.9, 건물 소화율 41.9~53.9%), 갈대 사일리지의 품질은 수단그라스에 비해 불량하였다. 강원 평창 강변 자생갈대의 사료가치는 초장이 79, 117, 121, 142 cm로 생육이 진행됨에 따라 낮아져, 조단백질은 각각 13.9%에서 7.6%로, 상대사료가치는 90.7 (건초 3등급)에서 76.1 (건초 4등급)로, 건물 소화율은 72.9%에서 54.7%로 감소하였다. 원주 섬강 주변 야초류는 곤포수확 작업에 어려움이 있었으며, 초장 130 cm의 갈대는 조단백질 8.5%, 상대사료가치 82.3 (건초 4등급), 건물 소화율 70.2%로 사료가치는 높았으며, 220 cm의 성숙한 갈대는 조단백질 10.2%, 상대사료 가치 65.1 (건초 5등급), 건물 소화율 48.9%로 볏짚 대비 조금 나은 것으로 평가되었다. 전남 영광지역에서는 와탄천 주변에 자생하는 갈대를 수거 이용하고자 시도하였으나 경제성이 없어 중단하였다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여볼 때, 갈대, 억새 등 야초류는 현 상태에서 최대한 수거 이용하되, 사료가치를 유지하고 가축 기호성이 양호한 시기에 수확하는 것이 중요하며, 최소한 볏짚과 비슷하거나 그 이상의 사료가치를 기대하기 위해서는 7월 중순 이전(늦어도 7월까지)에 수확 이용하는 것이 권장된다.
