  • In helicopter bearingless rotor design, the flexbeam is the key component of rotor system, which plays an importantrole in the blade flapping, lead-lag movement, torsion, and load transfer. Flexbeam must have the minimum torsion stiffness with enough tension strength. In this paper, we first investigated the torsion stiffness of different cross section configurations of the flexbeam through some simple experiments. Then we analyzed a rotor's dynamical characteristics with finite element method and got the rotor's fan plot. After that, we studied the relationship between the frequency changes with the spanwise distribution of mass and stiffness in bearingless rotor. Finally, we analyzed the influence of the flexbeam on dynamical characteristics of the bearingless rotor system, and completed the design of this type of rotor flexbeam.

  • The objectives of this study are to improve the aerodynamics performance on the down-wind blade system with folding type blade which consists of the folding type rotor blade, wind vane yawing stabilizer and a bevel gearbox. The aerodynamics performance for the new wind turbine system are compared with those of the conventional up-wind blade system. In addition to, a novel multi voltage inverter system is applied for reductions of harmonic.

  • Tidal current power system is one of ocean renewable energies that can minimize the environmental impact with many advantages compared to other energy sources. Not like others, the produced energy can be precisely predicted without weather conditions and also the operation rate is very high. To convert the current into power, the first device encountered to the incoming flow is the rotor that can transform into rotational energy. The performance of rotor can be determined by various design parameters including numbers of blade, sectional shape, diameter, and etc. The stream lines near the rotating rotor is very complex and the interference effects around the system is also difficult to predict. The paper introduces the experiment of rotor performance and also the fundamental study on the characteristics of three different rotors and flow near the rotor by CFD.

  • Reaction drive rotor system is capable of providing hover and low speed capabilities to different aircraft concepts such as stopped rotor wing, canard rotor wing, compound gyroplane etc. Existing sizing and analysis tools for shaft drive rotor system cannot be applied directly to this system. The available methodologies to size this system were reviewed. Power available calculation procedure and factors affects it were addressed prior to sizing process. Various design issues of this system due to interrelationship of internal gas flow dynamics and rotor external aerodynamics was discussed. Finally, a modification that is required in existing sizing methodologies was identified and combined approach in sizing process to consider the interrelationship among engine, rotor and blade duct was introduced.

  • A grid generation algorithm associated with turbomachinery cascade flow fields has been developed. The present grid generation system consists of four separate modules. The system input is made of the results of the preliminary design, i.e., flow-path, aerodynamic conditions along the spanwise direction, and the blade profile data. The grid generation method generates a series of two-dimensional grids in the blade-to-blade passage to build up the three-¬dimensional grid, The numerical algorithm adopts the combination of the algebraic and elliptic method to create the internal grids efficiently and quickly. The resultant grids generated from each module of the system are used as the preprocessor for the performance prediction of the turbomachinery blade using Naveir-Stokes method in addition to the blade surface modelling for CAD data. For purposes of illustration, the grid generation system is applied to several complex geometries inculding a turbine rotor with and without a tip flow grid. Application to the blade design of the LP compressor was demonstrated to be very reliable and practical in support of design activities. This customized system are coupled strongly with the design procedure and reduces the man-hours required to predict the aerodynamic performance of the turbomachinery cascades using the CFD technique.

  • Closed-loop active twist control of integral helicopter rotor blades is investigated in this paper for reducing hub vibration induced in forward flight. A four-bladed fully articulated integral twist-actuated rotor system has been designed and tested successfully in wind tunnel in open-loop actuation. The integral twist deformation of the blades is generated using active fiber composite actuators embedded in the composite blade construction. An analytical framework is developed to examine integrally twisted helicopter blades and their aeroelastic behavior during different flight conditions. This aeroelastic model stems from a three-dimensional electroelastic beam formulation with geometrical-exactness, and is coupled with finite-state dynamic inflow aerodynamics. A system identification methodology that assumes a linear periodic system is adopted to estimate the harmonic transfer function of the rotor system. A vibration minimizing controller is designed based on this result, which implements a classical disturbance rejection algorithm with some modifications. Using the established analytical framework, the closed-loop controller is numerically simulated and the hub vibratory load reduction capability is demonstrated.

  • The helicopter rotor system generates lift, thrust, maneuvering force and moment to the helicopter with the torque and pitch control force transferred from the main rotor hub/control. And the tail rotor system generates the thrust for yaw axis control of the helicopter with the torque and pitch control force transferred from the tail rotor hub/control. Ground whirl test shall be performed to verify the compliance of requirement performance test and dynamic test of rotor blade and hub/control. This paper describes a design of whirl tower test facility for helicopter rotor system test and evaluation. Design results are summarized and compared with design requirements.

  • One stage axial type turbine is designed by mean-line analysis, streamline curvature method and blade design method using shape parameters. Tip and hub diameter of the turbine are 300mm and 206.4mm, respectively. The rotating speed is 1800RPM, and the output power is 1.4kW. The flow coefficient is 1.68 and the reaction factor at mean-line is 0.373. The number of stator and rotor of the turbine are 31 and 41, respectively. Mach number of stator exit flow near hub is 0.164. A test rig is developed for performance test to validate a developed design method. The experimental result shows that the maximum efficiency is obtained on the design point.

  • Recently, the concept of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) has expanded to Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). A tilt rotor type of vertical take-off and landing aircraft has been actively studied and developed. A tilt-rotor aircraft can perform a transition flight between vertical and horizontal flights. A blade pitch angle control system can be used for flight stability during transition flight time. In addition, Individual Blade Control (IBC) can reduce noise and vibration generated in transition flight. This paper proposed Disturbance Observer Based Control (DOBC) and Time Delay Control (TDC) for individual blade control of an Electro-Mechanical Actuator (EMA) based blade pitch angle control system. To compare and analyze proposed controllers, numerical simulations were conducted with DOBC and TDC.

  • In this study gives detail on the composition and process of Quad-rotor blade Vehicle. It may seem simple but we have many trouble because of many subtleties. Unless designed carefully, it is very difficult to control of stability by reason of disturbances in the air and unbalance in the motor. We want to have a more stable output so add other electronics supplement, and change the battery in oder to increasing thrust. It cannot be done quickly, nor cheaply because it is more difficult than first ideas that control of Quad-rotor. But we complete manufacture of basically controllable vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.
