In order to investigate transient behavior, of the CRW(Canard Rotor Wing) type UAV(Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle) propulsion system during flight mode transition considering flow control valve operation, the propulsion system was modelled using SIMULINK commercial program. The valve system is to control the gas flow of the rotary duct system and the main duct system, and the analysis was performed with an assumption that the total gas mass flow of the main engine is the same as summation of the rotary duct flow and the main duct flow, and with consideration of valve loss, flow rate and effective area in valve angle variation. The performance analysis was carried out during flight mode transitions from the rotary flight mode to the fixed wing flight mode and vice versa mode at altitude of 1km, flight Mach number 0.1 and maximum engine rpm.

Direct torque control based on space vector modulation (SVM-DTC) protects the DTC transient merits. Furthermore, it creates better quality steady-state performance in a wide speed range. The modified method of DTC using SVM improves the electrical magnitudes of asynchronous machines, such as minimizing the stator current distortions, the stator flux with electromagnetic torque without ripple, the fast response of the rotor speed, and the constant switching frequency. In this paper, the proposed method is based on two new control strategies for direct torque control with space vector modulation. First, fuzzy logic control is used instead of the PI torque and a PI flux controller to minimizing the torque error and to achieve a constant switching frequency. The voltages in the direct and quadratic reference frame ($V_d$, $V_q$) are achieved by fuzzy logic control. In this scheme, the switching capability of the inverter is fully utilized, which improves the system performance. Second, the close loop of stator flux estimation based on the voltage model and a low pass filter is used to counteract the drawbacks in the open loop of the stator flux such as the problems saturation and dc drift. The response of this new control strategy is compared with DTC-SVM. The experimental and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed control topology outperforms the conventional DTC-SVM in terms of system robustness and eliminating the bad outcome of dc-offset.
In this paper an effective five-phase induction motor (IM) and its drive methods are proposed. Due to the additional degrees of freedom, the five-phase IM drive presents unique characteristics for enhancing the torque producing capability of the motor. Also the five-phase motor drives possess many other advantages when compared to traditional three-phase motor drives. Some of these advantages include, reducing the amplitude and increasing the frequency of the torque pulsation, reducing the amplitude of the current without increasing the voltage per phase and increasing the reliability. In order to maximize the torque per ampere, the proposed motor has concentrated winding, the produced back electromotive force (EMF) is almost trapezoidal, and the motor is supplied with the combined sinusoidal plus the third harmonic of the currents. For demonstrating the superior performance of the proposed five-phase IM, the motors are also analyzed on the synchronously rotating reference frame. To supply trapezoidal current waveform and to exclude the effect of the $3^{rd}$ harmonic current, a new control stratagem is proposed. The proposed control method is based on direct torque control (DTC) and rotor flux oriented control (RFOC) of the five-phase IM drives. It is able to reduce the acoustical noise, the torque, the flux, the current, and the speed pulsations during the steady state. The DTC transient merits are preserved, while a better quality steady-state performance is produced in the five phase motor drive for a wide speed range. Experimental results clearly demonstrated a more dynamic steady state performance with the proposed control system.

Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) has a characteristic that the inductance changes very nonlinearly depending on the magnitude of the current and the relative position of the rotor and stator, and the torque is generated In consideration of these problems, many studies have been conducted on a topology for driving that can improve efficiency and performance in an existing asymmetric bridge converter in order to simplify the circuit and economic efficiency. Therefore, in this paper, we want to check the performance by comparing and analyzing each converter used by applying it as a topology for SRM driving. The driving converters applied to the comparison and analysis are Conventional C-dump, Modified C-dump, Energy efficient C-dump, Resonant C-dump converter with C-dump converter type structure and the most widely used asymmetric bridge converter and 6-Switch inverter that used for general motors.
This study presents an experimental investigation of the effects of surface roughness on gas foil thrust bearing (GFTB) performance. A high-speed motor with the maximum speed of 80 krpm rotates a thrust runner and a pneumatic cylinder applies static loads to the test GFTB. When the motor speed increases and reaches a specific speed at which a hydrodynamic film pressure generated within the gap between the thrust runner and test GFTB is enough to support the applied static load, the thrust runner lifts off from the test GFTB and the friction mechanism changes from the boundary lubrication to the hydrodynamic lubrication. The experiment shows a series of lift-off test and load-carrying capacity test for two thrust runners with different surface roughnesses. For a constant static load of 15 N, thrust runner A with its lower surface roughness exhibits a higher start-up torque but lower lift-off torque than thrust runner B with a higher surface roughness. The load capacity test at a rotor speed of 60 krpm reveals that runner A results in a higher maximum load capacity than runner B. Runner A also shows a lower drag torque, friction coefficient, and bearing temperature than runner B at constant static loads. The results imply that maintaining a consistent surface roughness for a thrust runner may improve its static GFTB performance.

This paper investigates the effect of blade deformation, caused by manufacturing inaccuracies, on the performance of a 2-stage axial steam turbine. A high fidelity 3D coordinate Measurement Machine has been employed to obtain the exact geometrical model of the blades. A Streamline Curvature solver was used to predict the overall performance of the turbine. During the manufacturing process of the casts and of the blades themselves, several types of errors can occur which lead to a different geometry from that envisaged by the designer. The main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of those errors on the performance of a 2-stage experimental axial steam turbine. A high fidelity measurement of the actual geometry of both stator and rotor blades has been carried out, using a 3D Coordinate Measurement Machine. The cross sections of the blades obtained by the measurement were compared with those produced by the design process to evaluate the change in blade inlet/exit angles. In addition, the geometrical deviations from the initial design have been subjected to a statistical study in order to locate the nature of the error. The actual(measured) model has been used as input into a Streamline Curvature solver to evaluate its performance. Finally, a comparison with the performance plots of the original geometry has been carried out. A measurable change of efficiency as well as in the total power delivered by the turbine was found. This suggests that the accumulated error caused during the manufacturing procedure plays a significant role in the overall performance of the machine by making it less efficient by more than 1%. Reverse engineering techniques are proposed to predict and alleviate these errors leading thereby to a final design of each stage with improved performance.

A centrifugal turbo blower of the fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) operates at very high speed above 30000 rpm in order to increase the pressure of the air, which supplied to a stack of FCEV, using rotation of its impeller blades. Vibration which originated from the blower is generated by unbalance of mechanical components, rotation of bearings and rotating asymmetry that rotate at high speed. The vibration is transmitted to receiving structure through vibration isolators and it can causes serious problems in the noise, vibration and harshness(NVH) performance. Thus, the study about reducing this kind of vibration is an important task. In this paper, dynamic analysis of the blower executed by numerical simulation and experimental analysis of the blower is also performed. Then, measured and simulated results are compared in order to validate of the simulation. Finally, reducing vibration through modifying mount stiffness is the main purpose of this paper.
A gerotor pump is suitable for oil hydraulics of machine tools, automotive engines, compressors, constructions and other various applications. In particular the pump is an essential machine element that feeds lubricant oil in an automotive engine. The subject of this paper is the theoretical analysis of internal lobe pump whose the main components are the two rotors. Usually the outer one is characterized by lobes with a circular shape, while the inner rotor profile is determined as a conjugate to the other. For this reason the first topic presented here is the definition of the geometry of the rotors starting from the design parameters. The choice of these parameters is subject to some limitations in order to limit the pressure angle between the rotors. Now we will consider the design optimization. The first step is the determination of the instantaneous flow rate as a function of the design parameter. This allows us to calculate three performance indexes commonly used for the study of positive displacement pumps the flow rate irregularity, the specific flow rate, and the specific slipping. These indexes are used to optimize the design of the pump and to obtain the sets of optimum design parameter Results obtained from the analysis enable the designer and manufacturer of the oil pump to be more efficient in this field.

Friction materials with four different sizes of zircon - l${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 75${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 140${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$- were investigated to evaluate the size effects of abrasive particles used in the automotive brake pads on brake performance. Although the brake pads with the largest size of zircon showed a good frictional stability and low wear, rotors were severely abraded due to the aggressiveness of coarse Bircon. As the siBe of zircon decreased. friction force and the amplitude of friction coefficient increased. Considering the above results, abrasive materials were thought to destroy transfer film and the extent of the destruction depends on the size of zircon. The small size zircon was not effective in developing a transfer layer on the rotor surface while minimizing the damage on the counter surface.

In the present study, a BLDC motor for a pump in which a neodymium PM is replaced with a Ferrite PM has been developed in preparation for the cost increase and to ensure the stability of the resource supply. One of the currently used motors for pumps is a BLDC motor having an interior PM wherein a rare-earth PM is adopted. However, a BLDC motor for a pump is designed to have large airgap because of the use of a waterproof insulator according to its structural characteristics, and therefore, a SPM structure is suitable. Hence, an SPM BLDC motor in which a Ferrite PM is used is designed. Nevertheless, the use of Ferrite instead of rare-earth materials causes a deterioration in the performance of the electric motor, such as a decrease in the BEMF and the maximum power of the motor and the irreversible demagnetization of the PM. In order to mitigate such disadvantages, an optimized design of the BLDC motor is developed by changing each design parameter and by improving the electromagnetism structure.
