  • When a vehicle moves with a high rotation rate, it is not easy to measure the angular velocity using an off-the-shelf gyroscope. If the angular velocity is estimated using the extended Kalman filter in the gyro-free inertial navigation system, the effect of the accelerometer error and initial angular velocity error can be reduced. In this paper, in order to improve the navigation performance of the gyro-free inertial navigation system, an angular velocity estimation method is proposed based on an extended Kalman filter with an accelerometer random bias error model. In order to show the validity of the proposed estimation method, angular velocities and navigation outputs of a vehicle with 3 rev/s rotation rate are estimated. The results are compared with estimates by other methods such as the integration and an extended Kalman filter without an accelerometer random bias error model. The proposed method gives better estimation results than other methods.

  • In order to retrieve the rotated image within database by the content based image retrieval system, the algorithms with rotation robustness is usually applied in the procedure of the feature extraction. In that case, it requires much calculation time for feature extraction and much indexed data for feature indexing. Thus. in this paper. we propose the rotation robust algorithm using the block variance of the projected vector. The algorithm does not require additional calculation for feature extraction and is executed within query time by comparing the extracted data. Proposed method can be processed through database including various size of images with shape information and executed with fast response time in implementation.

  • Torsional behavior of eccentric structure under seismic leading may cause the stress and/or deformation concentration, which arouse the failure of the structure in an unexpected manner. This study suggests D-R relationship which shows the overall displacement and rotation of the system based on the ultimate displacement capacity of the each lateral load resistant member. Using the suggested D-R relationship and displacement spectrum, the seismic assessment is conducted and verified in comparison with the time history analysis result. Multi-level seismic assessment Is considered which takes multiple seismic hazard levels and respective performance levels into account. Finally, based on the seismic assessment result, seismic rehabilitation process is presented. In this research, two rehabilitation methods are considered. One is done by means of stiffening/strengthening the seismic resistant members, and the other is based on the member ductility. Especially, in the first method, to optimize the rehabilitation result, the rehabilitation problem is modeled as an optimization problem, and solved using BFGS quasi-Newton optimization method.

  • For the safe seismic design of buildings, it is necessary to predict the plastic deformation demands of the members as well as the story drift ratio. In the present study, a simple method of estimating the beam plastic rotation was developed for special-moment-resisting steel frame structures designed with strong column-weak beam behavior. The proposed method uses elastic analysis rather than nonlinear analysis, which is difficult to use in practice. The beam plastic rotation was directly calculated based on the results of the elastic analysis, addressing the moment redistribution, the column and joint dimensions, the movement of the plastic hinge, the panel zone deformation, the gravity load, and the strain-hardening behavior. In addition, the rocking effect of the braced frame or core wall on the beam plastic rotation was addressed. For verification, the proposed method was applied to a six-story special-moment frame designed with strong column-weak beam behavior. The predicted plastic rotations of the beams were compared with those that were determined via nonlinear analysis. The beam plastic rotations that were predicted using the proposed method correlated well with those that were determined from the nonlinear pushover analysis.

  • Heumgyeonggaknu is a water-hammering type automatic water clock which was made by Jang Yeong-Sil in 1438. The water clock that is located in Heumgyeonggaknu consists of Suho which is equipped with 2-stage overflow. Constant water wheel power is generated by supplying a fixed amount of water of Suho to Sususang, and this power is transferred to each floor at the same time. The 1st floor rotation wheel of Gasan consists of the operation structure which has the shape of umbrella ribs. The 2nd floor rotation wheel is made so that the 12 hour signal, Gyeong-Jeom signal, and Jujeon constitute a systematic configuration. The 3rd floor rotation wheel is made so that the signal and rotation of Ongnyeo and four gods can be accomplished. Based on the above conceptual design, this paper analyzed the internal signal generation and power transmission of Heumgyeonggaknu.

  • The steel shows plastic deformation after the yield point exceeds. Because of overloads, the plastic deformation occurs at the interior support of a continuous bridge. The plastic deformation is concentrated at the interior support, and the permanence deformation at the interior support remains after loads pass. Because local yielding causes the positive moment at the interior support, it is called "auto moment". Auto moment redistributes the elastic moment. Because of redistribution, auto moment decreases the negative moment at the interior support of a continuous bridge. In this paper, the moment-rotation curve from Schalling is used. The Plastic rotation is computed by using Beam-line method, and auto moment is calculated based on the experiment curve. The design example is presented using limit state criterion.

  • Despite its importance for the understanding of joint kinematics in vivo, there has been few studies about shoulder joints. The purpose of this study is to analyze the glenohumeral joint during internal and external rotation at 90 degrees of abduction using in vivo noninvasive motion analysis system. MRI was performed for the following seven positions from maximum internal rotation to maximum external rotation at intervals of 30 degrees. We used 3D-gradient echo sequencing (TR: 12 ms, TE: 5.8 ms, 0.8 mm-slice thickness). Our method is based on matching three-dimensional MR images by the similarity of the image intensity. We analyzed the in vivo three-dimensional motions of the glenohumeral and scapulothoracic joint during this motion. In scapla plane, the mean rotation angle of the glenohumeral join was 105.5 degrees ($SD{\pm}39.0^{\circ}$). The mean rotation angle of the scapulothracic joint was 27.5 degrees ($SD\;{\pm}\;7.7^{\circ}$). The contribution ratio is almost 3.8:1 of glenohumeral and scapulothracic joint respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose a modified boundary block merging technique for the texture coding of MPEG-4. We propose an ORP(Optimized Region Partitioning) method that partition the VOP-based reference position to minimize the number of coding blocks. The merging possibility is improved by adding +90。and -90。 Rotation merging. We propose a MRM(Multiple Rotation Merging) method which applies the rotation merging in the order of 180。, +90。and -90。. If a pair of boundary blocks has low correlation, existing BBM's padding technique is not efficient. Our padding after merging method gives better result even if it has low correlation. The proposed method showed 5 ~8(%) coding bit reduction at the same PSNR values compared to BBM method.

  • This paper presents a practical method to efficiently extract the rotational part of a $3{\times}3$ matrix that changes continuously in time. This is the key technique in the corotational FEM and the shape matching deformation popular in physics-based dynamic deformation. Recently, in contrast to the traditional polar decomposition methods independent of time, an iterative method was proposed that formulates the rotation extraction in a physics-based way and exploits an incremental representation of rotation. We develop an optimization method that reduces the number of iterations under the assumption that the maximum magnitude of the incremental rotation vector is limited within ${\pi}/2$. Realistic simulation of dynamic deformation employs a sufficiently small time step, and thus this assumption is not problematic in practice. We demonstrate the efficiency and practicality of our method in various experiments.

  • This paper proposes a SURF (Speeded Up Robust Features) based face recognition method which is one of typical interest point extraction algorithms. In general, SURF based object recognition is performed in interest point extraction and matching. In this paper, although, proposed method is employed not only in interest point extraction and matching, but also in face image rotation and interest point verification. image rotation is performed to increase the number of interest points and interest point verification is performed to find interest points which were matched correctly. Although proposed SURF based face recognition method requires more computation time than PCA based one, it shows better recognition rate than PCA algorithm. Through this experimental result, I confirmed that interest point extraction algorithm also can be adopted in face recognition.
