Heumgyeonggaknu is a water-hammering type automatic water clock which was made by Jang Yeong-Sil in 1438. The water clock that is located in Heumgyeonggaknu consists of Suho which is equipped with 2-stage overflow. Constant water wheel power is generated by supplying a fixed amount of water of Suho to Sususang, and this power is transferred to each floor at the same time. The 1st floor rotation wheel of Gasan consists of the operation structure which has the shape of umbrella ribs. The 2nd floor rotation wheel is made so that the 12 hour signal, Gyeong-Jeom signal, and Jujeon constitute a systematic configuration. The 3rd floor rotation wheel is made so that the signal and rotation of Ongnyeo and four gods can be accomplished. Based on the above conceptual design, this paper analyzed the internal signal generation and power transmission of Heumgyeonggaknu.
A combination of ultraviolet irradiation and egg rotation was applied to Korean frogs to study the mechanisms of the establishment of the dorsal-ventral polarity. Rotation of the uncleaved egg was capable of preventing the characteristic syndromes associated with UV irradiation. As well, brief rotation of the egg before cleavage relocates the site of dorsal lip to a novel location in the embryo at gastrula stage. That is, the dorsal lip appeared on the opposite side to gravity at the rotation of the egg. Above results were discussed with the informations obtained from other anuran and urodele species, and were interpreted in terms of regulating mechanisms for early embryogenesis.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of mobile phone text messaging on the collision avoidance strategy for an approaching and stationary pedestrian. Method: Eighteen healthy young adults participated in this study. Each participant was asked to perform a task to walking with/without mobile phone text messaging and a task to avoid collisions with another pedestrian who was approaching or stationary during walking. Results: When text messaging with avoidance collision, it showed an early onset time, a larger mediolateral COM trajectory, trunk rotation angle and trunk rotation velocity (p<.05). Also, compared to an approaching pedestrian, when avoiding collision with a stationary pedestrian, it showed a later onset time, a lager avoidance displacement, mediolateral COM trajectory, trunk rotation angle (p<.05). Conclusion: Results suggest that mobile phone text messaging while collision avoidance leads to delay the perception stage and alters the adaptation stage. Consequently, pedestrian executed in an exaggerated avoidance action to create a greater safety margin when attending to mobile phone test messages while avoiding another pedestrian.
Four finite element (FE) models are examined to find the one that best estimates moment-rotation characteristics of top- and seat-angle with double web-angle connections. To efficiently simulate the real behavior of connections, finite element analyses are performed with following considerations: 1) all components of connection (beam, column, angles and bolts) are discretized by eight-node solid elements; 2) shapes of bolt shank, head, and nut are precisely taken into account in modeling; and 3) contact surface algorithm is applied as boundary condition. To improve accuracy in predicting moment-rotation behavior of a connection, bolt pretension is introduced before the corresponding connection moment being surcharged. The experimental results are used to investigate the applicability of FE method and to check the performance of three-parameter power model by making comparison among their moment-rotation behaviors and by assessment of deformation and stress distribution patterns at the final stage of loading. This research exposes two important features: (1) the FE method has tremendous potential for connection modeling for both monotonic and cyclic loading; and (2) the power model is able to predict moment-rotation characteristics of semi-rigid connections with acceptable accuracy.
Rotary stages in semiconductor, display industry and many other fields require challenging accuracy to perform their functions properly. Especially, Axis of rotation error on rotary system is significant; such as the spindle error motion of the aligner, wire bonder and inspector machine which result in the poor quality products. To evaluate and improve the performance of such precision rotary stage, undesired movements on the other 5 degrees of freedom of the rotary stage must be measured and analyzed. In this paper, we have measured the three translations and two tilt motions of the worm gear type spindle with high precision capacitive sensors. To obtain the radial error motion, we have used Donaldson's reversal technique. And the axial components of the spindle tilt error motion can be obtained accurately from the axial direction outputs of sensors by Estler face motion reversal technique. Further more we have designed and developed the sensor mounting jig with standard cylinder for reversal method.
The purpose of this study is to categorize preconceived notions by elementary science gifted students about the reason why only one side of the moon is visible and develop an instructional module to correct these notions scientifically. The effectiveness of these modules will then be tested. The participants of this study were 15 (5th and 6th grade students) from Gwangju Metropolitan City and Chonnam Province who passed a gifted student assessment test developed by J university. The student's notions about the reason only one side of the moon is visible were assessed through questionnaires, interviews, and reenactments. Instructional modules to minimize these notions were developed and then improved upon by class reenactments. And then these modules were used to teach a real class with cameras recording the students. Protocols were analyzed using this footage, and emphasis was placed on how the developed class module changed student's misconceptions. The instructional module developed in this study was: student conception assessment writing materials exploration activity stage 1 (moon's orbit) exploration activity stage 2 (moon's rotation) - exploration activity stage 3 (moon's orbit and rotation) - exploration activity stage 4 (verbalizing the moon's orbit and rotation) - exploration activity stage 5 (thinking about moon movement considering earth's rotation - exploration activity stage 6 (relating the earth and moon's movement) and verifying student conception change. An important conclusion of this study was that all 15 students had misconceptions that could be divided into categories A, B, and C. Category A could be separated with more specifics into A-1 and A-2, and C into C-1 and C-2. After the instructional module was utilized, the student categories show positive change in the following stages: Category A at exploration activity stage 1 and 2, Category B at exploration activity stage 3, Category C-1 at exploration activity stage 4 and 5, and Category C-2 at exploration activity stage 6. Category C-1 students immediately changed to Category C-2 after going through a few stages, and their misconceptions were finally corrected after going through exploration activity stage 6. The misconceptions of students in all categories were corrected scientifically after completing stage 6 education. This study proposes that a combined education of reenactments, exploration materials development, and exploration activities by stages will effectively correct misconceptions about the Earth and moon's movement.

Compared with linear induction principle, the transverse flux circumferential induction principle is suggested as a driving mechanism of the revolving stage, which can rotate contactlessly without any supporting structure. The stage realizes the integrated motion of levitation, rotation, and planar perturbation, using the two-axis forces, normally directed force of the air-gap and tangential force, of the induction drivers mounted on the stator uniformly. In this paper, the force generating mechanism of the stage is described in detail. First, the various core shapes generating the transverse flux are analyzed to guarantee the proper thrust force. And the vector force intensity of the circumferential induction driver constituting the stage is compared with that of the linear induction driver. Especially it is shown that the magnetic force of the suggested system can be modeled with the linear equivalent model, including the test verification.
In this paper, the behavior of plates partially restrained against rotation under stress gradient is investigated. As a first stage, an energy formulation is presented to model this boundary condition and a general expression is derived for the prediction of the elastic buckling of the plate under this general loading condition. The accuracy of the derived expression is compared numerically using the Galerkin method with other available data for the two limiting conditions of rotationally free and clamped boundaries. Results show that the prediction is within a 5% difference. The influence of rotational restraint and stress gradient upon the buckling load and the associated buckling mode is investigated. Numerical results show sensitivity of the buckling mode to the degree of rotational restraint and the variation of the buckling load with the stress gradient.

This paper presents a new design of the precision stage for the reticle in lithography process and a low hunting control method for the stage. The stage has three axes for X, Y, ${\theta}_z$ those actuated by three voice coil motors individually. The designed reticle stage system has three gap sensors and voice coil motors, and supported by four air bearings and the forward/inverse kinematics of the stage were solved to get an accurate reference position. When a stage is in regulating control mode, there always exist small fluctuations(stage hunting) in the stage movement. Because the low stage hunting characteristic is very important in recent lithography and nano-level applications, a special regulating controller for ultra low hunting is proposed in this paper. Also this research proposed the 2-step transmission system for preventing the noise infection from environmental devices. The experimental results showed the proposed regulating control system reduced hunting noise as 35nm(rms) when a conventional PID generates 77nm(rms) in the same mechanical system. Besides the reticle stage has 100nm linear accuracy and $1{\mu}rad$ rotation accuracy at the control frequency of 8kHz.
Objective: This study aimed to (1) evaluate the effects of maxillary second and third molar eruption status on the distalization of first molars with a modified palatal anchorage plate (MPAP), and (2) compare the results to the outcomes of the use of a pendulum and that of a headgear using three-dimensional finite element analysis. Methods: Three eruption stages were established: an erupting second molar at the cervical one-third of the first molar root (Stage 1), a fully erupted second molar (Stage 2), and an erupting third molar at the cervical one-third of the second molar root (Stage 3). Retraction forces were applied via three anchorage appliance models: an MPAP with bracket and archwire, a bone-anchored pendulum appliance, and cervical-pull headgear. Results: An MPAP showed greater root movement of the first molar than crown movement, and this was more noticeable in Stages 2 and 3. With the other devices, the first molar showed distal tipping. Transversely, the first molar had mesial-out rotation with headgear and mesial-in rotation with the other devices. Vertically, the first molar was intruded with an MPAP, and extruded with the other appliances. Conclusions: The second molar eruption stage had an effect on molar distalization, but the third molar follicle had no effect. The application of an MPAP may be an effective treatment option for maxillary molar distalization.
