Radio pulsars are highly magnetized, rapidly rotating neutron stars that emit synchrotron radiation along the magnetic axes at their spin frequencies. Traditionally, pulsar observations have been done at low frequencies (MHz up to a few GHz), since radio pulsar spectrum is known to a power-law with a steep negative spectral index. More recently, high-frequency pulsar observations (several GHz and above) have been made as a broadband spectrometer and fast computers became available. High-frequency pulsar observations will provide information on radio emission mechanism of pulsars in the vicinity of the neutron star surface. There is also huge interest from gravitational-wave and astrophysics community to find a pulsar in the center of our Galaxy. The Korean VLBI Network has three 21-m single dishes in the Korean peninsula. Using KVN's lowest observational frequency of 22-GHz, we performed test observations with the KVN targeting a few selected known, bright pulsars. In addition, we have been developing pulsar pipelines that can be utilized with a VLBI facility using Mark-V. We present a brief introduction of radio pulsars and show data obtained with the KVN.
This paper considers the research of the hybrid interrupter which adopts both rotating arc and thermal expansion technology. The operating principle of this device depends on rapid arc rotation due to the magnetic field created by the fault current through a coil which is mounted on contacts and also relies on the principle of thermal expansion created by arc energy in extinguishing chamber and finally causes pressure rise in expansion volume. In this research, the principle of the interrupting techniques are given and experimental results of hybrid interrupter which is developed by new technology is introduced.
Linear motors are increasingly employed as direct actuators replacing the more conventional systems composed by a rotating motor and a mechanical device. Linear DC motor is useful in a high speed and high accuracy positioning system with a feedback controller. Because of these advantages, linear DC motors have already been used as motors of pen recorders and magnetic disk storage devices, these are moving coil type linear DC motors as these movers are light. Moving magnet type linear DC motor has advantages at long stroke motors because its mover's feeding wires for driving is not necessary. This paper is concerned with the analysis of linear DC motor that is moving magnet type with unipolar. In order to analyze the dynamic behaviour a mathematical model based on a simplified field analysis developed. A two dimensional finite element field solution is employed in order to illustrate the effect of yoke saturation and motor performance. It is deduced the relation between the limit value of the thrust of the linear DC motor and the dimension of the yokes.

Spray characteristics for the modulation with a pulsed spray in low-frequency region were investigted by performing with additional internal pulsed injection. The 1st perturbative flow was generated by rotating-type pulsed device and the 2nd pulse source generated by the magnetic valve was used to modulate the 1st flow. A pattern of the modulated spray was observed through FFT result and visualization. In case of modulated spray with the 2nd pulse control, the width of up and down motion of the modulated spray is smaller than that of the spray without the 2nd pulse. Also, the depth of penetration of the down stream is higher than that of spray without the 2nd pulse.

Induction generator is always required reactive power in order to generate a rotating magnetic field as an inductive load. The reactive power must be continuously supplied to the induction generator as well as load of distribution system from the power supply side. So the power factor of the power supply side during the induction generation operation is low. Condenser is installed in order to raise the low power factor of the induction generator. Switching transients occurs when the power supply of the capacitor is turned on in order to ensure the low power factor. When using the reactor in series with the capacitor in order to reduce the influence of switching transient, it can affect the reactive power by the condenser voltage rises. In this study, we analyzed the operating characteristics for power and power factor of induction generator in accordance with the presence or absence of the application of the serial reactors for switching transients reduction of the condenser and the condenser for power factor correction.

This paper treated the design, manufacture and the performance characteristics under each mode of high speed motor/generator for an electro-mechanical battery(EMB). This machine is employed as an integral part of a flywheel energy storage system(FESS), i.e., a modular flywheel system to be used as a device for storing electrical or mechanical energy. In this machine, the magnetic field system is constructed by using special magnet array, dipole Halbach array with 16 permanent magnet segments and the armature is composed of a plastic bobbin and multi-phase windings with Litz wire. The magnet array produces a highly uniform dipole field without back iron. The motor/generator is 3-phase machine in which the dipole Halbach array surrounding the winding is rotating. Since there are no iron laminations, this field system offers some unique advantages for the simplicity of the design and the theoretical prediction of characteristics of a high speed electric machine. This paper describes the results obtained when EMB system was tested in the laboratory.

A surfaced permanent magnet spherical motor is capable of operating as three degree of freedom that used for the joints of the robot's arm, leg, and eyes. Ongoing research like new concept is essential part of motor field, it will make a great contribution in the future the overall portion of the motor, is becoming expected. The author analysis torque characteristics in spherical motor with state of rotating and positioning. And future design direction is smaller motors with equivalent or higher output. Solutions as torque and efficiency improvements are selecting the core with special processing type like powder metallurgy materials. Their special characteristic is high permeability and low eddy current losses at high speed, so improved the torque and efficiency.
For the application of HTS wire to AC power equipment, a conductor with high current capacity and low loss is required. CORC®, one of the high-current conductors manufactured using several HTS wires, is made by winding the wires in a spiral on a cylindrical former. Because the magnetization loss of a CORC® conductor depends on the degree of magnetic coupling between the wires constituting the CORC®, it is necessary to know the value of the magnetization loss of the CORC® itself. In order to obtain an accurate loss value, it is necessary to know the effect of the ratio of the winding pitch of the CORC® conductor in the pickup coil region sampling the magnetization loss signal. To confirm this effect, we prepare CORC® samples having various winding pitches, and measure and compare the magnetization losses. In addition, the magnetization loss was measured while rotating the CORC® samples and it was examined whether there was a difference in the magnetization loss according to the rotation.
In this paper, we established the generalized thermoelasticity phenomenon in an isotropic elastic medium considering the electromagnetic field, rotation and two-temperature. Three theories of generalized thermoelasticity have been applied: Lord-Shulman (one relaxation time), Green-Lindsay (two relaxation times), as well as the coupled theory. We discussed some particular cases in the context of the wave propagation phenomenon in thermoelasticity. From solving the fundamental equations, we arrived that there are three waves: P-, T- and SV-waves that we calculated their velocities. The boundary conditions for mechanical stress and Maxwell's stress and thermal insulated or isothermal have been applied to determine the amplitudes ratios (reflection coefficients) for P-, T - and SV waves. Some utilitarian aspects are obtained from the reflection coefficients, presented graphically, and the new conclusions have been presented. Comparisons are made for the results predicted by different theories (CT, LS, GL) in the absence and presence of the electro-magnetic field, rotation, as well as two-temperature on the reflection of generalized thermoelastic waves. The results obtained concluded that the external parameters as the angle of incidence, electromagnetic field, rotation as well as the theories parameters have strong effect on the phenomenon.
The superconducting motor shows several advantages such as smaller size and higher efficiency against conventional motor especially utilized in ship propulsion application. However, this size reduction merit appears in large capacity more than several MW. We are going to develop a 5MW class synchronous motor with rotating High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) coil. that is aimed to be utilized for ship propulsion so it has very low-speed, The ship propulsion motor must generate very high electromagnetic torque instead of low-speed. Therefore. the rotor (field) coils need very large magnetic flux that results in large amount of expensive HTS conductor for the field coil. In this paper a 5MW HTS motor for ship propulsion is considered to be designed with construction cost reduced via HTS field coil cost reduction because HTS conductor cost is critical factor in the construction cost of HTS motor. In order to reduce the HTS conductor amount. iron-cored rotor types are considered. so several cases with iron-core are compared one another and with an air-core case.
