  • A performance prediction method is presented in this paper for design of a rotating machinery having power split/circulated transmisson with slip elements and planetary gears. And internal power flow patterns of such systems are theoretically analyzed by using mathematical modeling. To estimate usefulness of the designed machinary, geometrical approach has been adopted through the performance locus diagram which represents overall characteristics of the system. This gives us complect prediction of the qualitative performane and effects of design factors such as system layout, types and gear ratios of planetary gears and disign parameters of slip elements. The results for one of them are compared with experimental ones using dynamometer for verification.

  • With the advent of distributed generation, power systems are fundamentally impacted in regards to stability and power quality. Distributed generation has a positive impact on system restoration following a fault, higher reliability, and mitigation of effect due to voltage sag. However, distributed generation also has a negative impact on decrease of reliability such as changes of protective device setting and mal-operation. Because bulk power systems consist of various sources and loads, it becomes complicated to analyze a power system with distributed generation. The types of distributed generation are usually classified by both rotating machinery and the inverter-based system. In this paper, distributed generation is designed by rotating machinery, and the distributed system having a model of the distributed generation is simulated using EMTP. In addition, this paper presents the simulation results according to the types of distributed generation.

  • A design optimization system for Francis turbine was developed. The system consists of design program and CFD solver. Flow passage shapes are optimized automatically by using the system with Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA). In this study, the system was applied to a high specific speed Francis turbine (nSP = 250m-kW). The runner profile and the draft tube shape were optimized to decrease hydraulic losses. As the results, it was shown that the turbine efficiency was improved in wide operating range, furthermore, the height of draft tube was reduced with the hydraulic performance kept.

  • This paper presents the calculating method of optimum correction mass within permissible vibration limits for rotating machinery in two-plane field balancing. Basic technique of this method based on influence coefficient method, is graphic vector composition that the resultant of two influence vectors obtained by trial mass have to be equilibrium with initial vibration vector in the each correction plane. Genetic algorithm which is a search algorithm based on the mechanics of natural selection and natural genetics is used for vector composition, and SUMT method is used to objective function which seeks optimum correction mass for balancing a rotor.

  • A bathtub vortex above the outlet of a rotating barrel is simulated. By analyzing the Ekman layer theory, it can be found that the main flow circulation is inversely proportional to the thickness of Ekman layer. The thicker the Ekman boundary layer, the weaker the rotational strength and the shorter of the length of gas core is. According to this law, models of barriers with rods of different heights are established. The reduction of air-core length in this air entrainment vortex and weakening the strength of rotation field were achieved.

  • Acoustic Emission technique is widely applied to develop the early fault detection system, and the problem about a signal processing method for AE signal is mainly focused on. In the signal processing method, envelope analysis is a useful method to evaluate the bearing problems and Wavelet transform is a powerful method to detect faults occurred on rotating machinery. However, exact method for AE signal is not developed yet. Therefore, in this paper two methods which are Hilbert transform and DET for feature extraction. In addition, we evaluate the classification performance with varying the parameter from 2 to 15 for feature selection DET, 0.01 to 1.0 for the RBF kernel function of SVR, and the proposed algorithm achieved 94% classification accuracy with the parameter of the RBF 0.08, 12 feature selection.

  • The correlation dimension of a nonlinear method for the diagnosis on the clearance of rotating machinery is introduced in this paper. The correlation dimension can provide some intrinsic information of an underlying dynamic system by reconstructing measured scalar time series. Vibration signals measured from a rotor with different operating conditions are analyzed using the correlation dimension. The results show that the correlation dimension method can identify the magnitude of the clearance of a rotor and the lubricating condition.

  • This paper deals with a new design method for a small-size rotating machine with high power. In order to achieve high performance, secondary excitation by Nd-Fe-B magnets and the grain oriented electrical steel sheets were selected and a new design using dual rotors is proposed. The outline of the high-performance rotating machine will be presented and the results of the finite element analysis by using this method combined with the E&SS modeling will be shown in the paper.

  • In this paper a new positioning method for cylindrical work pieces on rotating supports is studied. A work piece on a rotating axis is positioned by an impact drive mechanism (IDM) whose driving parameters are steadily updated by observing the object movement. The application of this actuator and the use of a multi-functional PC board for all necessary input and output operations such as e.g. data acquisition or wave form generation allow an alignment with a precision of less than 1.mu.m in a relatively short time and at low cost compared to conventional methods.

  • This paper is proposed that in-output Digital module is acquired a vibration signal of a rotating machinery by Data Acquisition System. The module is designed to get ride of nose through low pass filter on the vibration signal from sensors and set the gain value for being able to sampling AC to DC, and also the sampled data by sampler and the conversed data by DIP/FPGA is supplied to the analyzer for analysis at a software tool. The DIP(Digital Signal Processor) of the Digital input/output Board makes Average voltage, Peak to Peak voltage, RMS(Root Mean Square) and Gap voltage, also FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) for rotating vibration diagnosis.
