중공축 모터를 이용한 회전아크에 관한 연구 (A Study on Rotating Arc Using Hollow Shaft Motor)

  • High speed rotating arc process, forming a flat bead surface with shallow penetration depth, can be applied to the automatic seam tracking, because the amplitude of current waveform increases at high rotation speed. Two high speed arc rotation mechanisms have been developed in Japan and Germany b rotating the electrode nozzle using an external motor, which are used prevalently for narrow gap and conventional seam welding. In this study, a new rotation mechanism was developed by using a hallow shaft motor designed to be installed in the electrode nozzle. By rotating the welding arc, the amplitude of current waveform increases remarkably since the self-regulation of arc is not fully performed. Experiments show that the arc sensor with high-speed rotation arc has improved its responsiveness and sensitivity.

  • Magnesium material could be widely used in the automotive industry because of its high strength to weight ratio, but the electric resistance spot welding process of magnesium sheets is difficult because of its low electric resistance and high thermal conduction and thermal expansion. For this reason, an electric resistance surface friction spot welding process using rotating dies is suggested for the spot welding of magnesium metal sheets. This welding method can be characterized by three heating methods: (1) electric resistance heating on contacted surface, (2) surface friction heating by rotating dies, and (3) thermal conduction heating from heated steel electrodes, for the fusion of metal at the interfacial zone between the two magnesium sheets. This welding process also has variables to explore, such as welding currents, diameters of the steel electrode, and rotating dies. It was found that the welding strength could reach industrial requirements by applying a welding current of 11.0kA, with steel electrodes of 12mm diameter, with rotating dies of 4.4 mm diameter, under the condition of a revolution speed of 1200rpm of rotating dies, for the surface friction spot welding process of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets of 1.4mm thickness.

Formation of Soluble Intermediate During the Electrochemical Crystallization of Lead Dioxide

  • Details on the electrochemical formation of lead dioxide from aqueous plumbous ion are studied by measuring current-time behavior with potential step method at a rotating platinum electrode. A cubic law without induction period can be applied to the crystallization of lead dioxide in both acetate and nitrate media. In the course of the mechanistic study, the presence of a soluble intermediate during the nucleation step is clearly observed with a rotating ring-disk electrode. Decrease in the anodic ring current due to the reduction of soluble species formed during the anodic crystallization of lead dioxide at disk is detected.

  • The electrochemical behaviors of various metals with and without diamond-like-carbon (DLC) coating in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution were investigated. The effect of hydrodynamic conditions was focused by employing a rotating disc electrode (RDE). The experimental results showed that each bare metal had a more positive corrosion potential and a higher corrosion rate due to enhanced oxygen transport at the higher rotating speed of the RDE. DLC coating caused a substantial increase in the corrosion resistance of all metals studied. However, localized corrosion was still found in the DLC-coated metal at sites where deposition defects existed. Surface morphology examination was performed after the electrochemical test to confirm the roles of hydrodynamic conditions and DLC coating.

회전원판 전극에서 비활성 현탁분체의 복합도금 (Composite coating of Suspended Inert Particles in the Rotating Disk Electrode)

  • The composite coating of suspended inert particles $\alpha$-Al2O3 and copper from acid sulphate bath was investigated at the Rotating Disk Electrode. Effects of rotation speeds of electrode, physical properties of electrolyte, the size and concentration of suspended particles on the codeposition ratio of Al2O3 and the enhancement of mass transfer of copper ions were examined. Particularly, new experimental method for the measurement of the codeposition ratio was suggested and also the characteristics of the composite coating layer were measured by Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry. Mass transfer of suspended particles system were increased up to 40% more than those of without suspended particles system. Optimum conditions of current density, hydrodynamics of RDE, and particles concentration showing maximum codeposition ratio were appeared in our experimental ranges. It was shown that the suspended inert particles were codeposited mainly near the surface of the composite coating layer.

Mechanistic Studies on the Formation of Soluble Intermediate during the Electrochemical Nucleation of Lead Dioxide

  • Different behavior on the formation of soluble intermediate was observed depending on the substrate employed during the nucleation of lead dioxide from plumbous ion using a rotating ring-disk electrode. It was found that no soluble intermediate was formed at glassy carbon electrode, while the presence of soluble intermediate could be detected at platinum substrate. From the different anodic behavior of two substrates, the formation of a probable Pb(Ⅲ) soluble intermediate was suggested. A most probable nucleation mechanism at the platinum substrate involving a second order chemical reaction was derived on the basis of rotating disk electrode experiments.

  • Micro-EDM is generally used far machining micro holes, pockets, and 3-D structures. For micro-EDM, first of all, micro-electrode fabrication is needed and WEDC system is proposed for tool electrode fabrication method. When tool electrode is fabricated using WEDG system, its characteristics are under the control of many EDM parameters. Also relations between the parameters affect electrode fabrication. In this study, experiments are carried out to analyze effects of EDM parameters about electrode surface integrity on micro-electrode fabrication. Experimental method and analysis are used to experimental design method. Factors used in experiments are composed of capacitance, resistance, pause time, wire feed rate, spindle rotating speed. As a result of experiments, capacitance and resistance affect electrode surface.

코로나 방전 정전선별기 내 PCB 입자의 이동궤도 시뮬레이션 (Simulation on the PCB Particle Trajectories in Corona-discharge Electrostatic Separator)

  • 코로나 방전 정전선별기 내에서 인쇄회로기판(Printed Circuit Board, PCB) 분쇄 입자의 이동궤도를 전산 모사하였다. 여기서 PCB입자는 전자부품 분리된 기판을 파쇄한 것으로, 대부분 구리와 FR-4(Flame Retardant Level-4)로 이루어져있다. 우선 입자가 선별기내 회전전극으로부터 탈착 지점을 계산하였으며, 중력, 원심력, 정전기력의 평형으로부터 유도되었다. 한편 탈착 후 이동궤도는 입자의 운동방정식으로부터 구한 가속도를 시간 적분하여 계산하였다. 시뮬레이션 변수는 입자의 크기, 공급전압의 세기, 회전전극속도 및 유도전극 각도로 하였다. 입자 이동궤도에 미치는 영향은 구리 입자의 경우에는 회전속도가 주요 변수였으나, 반면 FR-4 입자의 경우에는 상기 모든 변수에 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다.
