A vehicle's differential gear is a device designed to allow the vehicle's outer wheels to turn faster than the inner wheels when turning on a curve. The differential gear case is the main component of the differential gear system, which is composed of ring gear, pinion gear and side gear, and is fastened by pinion shaft pins. The differential gear case rotates when the vehicle is running, so balancing calibration is very important. In this study, a balancing machine that can diagnose and correct the differential gear case and mass imbalance of various rotating bodies was designed. The differential gear case was rotated at high speed to accurately diagnose the location and value of the unbalanced mass, and it was designed to be balanced and corrected by removing the unbalanced mass by drilling. After calibration, it was confirmed that the unbalanced value of all the measured samples was reduced to less than 180g.mm, and the unbalance reduction ratio was improved to 60~70%.

Oil seals are most essential parts in mechanical lubrication system to maintain the close gaps between stationary and high rotating components, and to help prevent oil leakages. Oil seals also can prevent harmful contaminants entering from outside to machinery, especially in severe environments. Therefore, the oil seals have an important performance in the machinery components. The performance of the oil seals are influenced by the design variables such as amount of interference gap between the main lip and shaft, the angle of main lip at air and oil sides and the distance between the garter spring and main lip. In the present study, a finite element analysis was performed to evaluate the oil seal performance with the considerations of number of oil seal dust lips and angle of the lip at oil side with the different design variables. As a result from the FEM analysis, the stress and contact pressure distributions was derived, based on this, performance of the sealing and durability were determined.
Modern steam turbine generators are being built as a higher power and larger system, experiencing more frequent starts and stops of operation due to a constant change of power demands. Hence, they are inevitably more vulnerable to various vibrations, and more often exposed to the danger of sudden vibration accidents than ever before. Even under the circumstances, in order to secure the system reliability of steampower plants and there by to supply safely the public electricity, it is important to prevent a sudden vibration accident in one hand and even when it happens, to raise an operating efficiency of the plants throught swift and precise treatments in the other. In this study, an interactive vibration diagnostic system has been developed to make the on-site vibration diagnosis of steam turbine generators possible and convenient, utilizing a note-book PC. For this purpose, at first the principal vibration phenomena, such as various unbalance and unstable vibrations as well as rubbing, misalignment, and shaft crack vibrations, have been systematically classified as grouped parameters of vibration frequencies, amplitudes, phases, rotating speeds at the time of accident, and operating conditions or condition changes. A new complex vibration diagnostic table has been constructed from the causal relations between the characteristic parameters and the principal vibration phenomena. Then, the diagnostic system has been developed to screen and issue the corresponding vibration phenomena by assigning to each user-selected combination of characteristic parameters a unique characteristic vector and comparing this vector with a diagnostic vector of each vibration phenomenon based on the constructed diagnostic table. Moreover, the diagnostic system has a logic whose diagnosis may be performed successfully by inputing only some of the corresponding characteristic parameters without having to input all the parameters. The developed diagnostic system has been applied to perform the diagnosis of several real cases of steam turbine vibration accidents. And the results have been quite satisfactory.
Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS) is composed by flywheel generating rotating potential energy and motor/generator set charging and discharging electric potential energy. The flywheel and motor/generator is connected by rotating shaft. And torque characteristics of motor/generator part can influence charging and mechanical traits of FESS. This paper analyze about motor/generator design method of 5 [kWh] FESS and torque ripple, harmonic effects by change of slots. At First, this paper proposes a method to estimate the flywheel size and the rotor size of the motor from the the rotational kinetic energy by inertia of FESS. The number of induction motor rotor slots for torque ripple reduction in the high speed operation region is selected. This paper performs to reduce the noise and vibration of the flywheel composed of coaxial with motor/generator and flywheel and realize the high efficiency.

An experimental study was performed to understand spray characteristics of the slinger injector. system for the micro turbojet engine. In this fuel injection system, fuel is sprayed and atomized in the combustor by centrifugal forces of engine shaft. This experimental apparatus consist of a high speed rotating Spindle, slinger injector, pressure tank and acrylic case. The droplet size and velocity were measured by PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) and spray was visualized by using Nd-Yag laser-based flash photography. From the test results, the droplet size(SMD) is largely affected to rotational speed, mass flow rate and the number of injection orifice. From the this experimental study, we could understand the spray characteristics of the slinger injection system and obtain the optimum shape of the slinger injector nozzle which is suitable for the micro turbojet engine.

Lip type stern tube sealing systems have used in almost all the middle or large ships which are being constructed in these days. It seems that the pressure fluctuation of the seal ring interspace, the cross-section profile and the materials quality of the seal rings have great effects on the sealing fuction of this sealing system. In this paper, the mechanical movement of lip seal ring which plays the most important role in stern tube sealing system and the possibility of leakage caused by pressure fluctuation are studied by theory and experiment. Using the finite element method for the axi-symetric object which receives the torsional load, the displacement and stress analysis of the seal rings, and also the possibility of crack occurance is checked by theoretical analysis. If the force which seal ring lip periphery receives is too small, there will be the possibility of leakage caused by the pressure fluctuation of the seal ring interspace, and if this force is too large, the frictional force between the seal ring and the liner will become problematical. The possibility of leakage caused by hardening of seal ring materials and creep phenomena of tested seal rings are also examined. The trial seal rings were designed and manufactured using the program of displacement and stress analysis developed in this study and the experimental apparatus to test the trial seal rings was also designed and manufactured. This trial seal rings were fitted in the experimental apparatus which was made in the same form as an actual stern tube. The one side of this apparatus was filled with sea water and the other side of it was filled with the lubricating oil. The leakage of oil and sea water was checked and the temperature was measured, rotating the propeller shaft at the constant velocity by D.C. motor. It was proved that the trial seal rings made in Viton rubber functioned excellenty but the trial seal rings made in N.B.R. rubber had problem in its durability.

The free vibration of a spinning flexible disk-spindle system supported by hydro dynamic bearings (HDB) in an HDD is analyzed by FEM. The spinning flexible disk is described using Kirchhoff plate theory and von Karman non-linear strain, and its rigid body motion is also considered. It is discretized by annular sector element. The rotating spindle which includes the clamp, hub, permanent magnet and yoke, is modeled by Timoshenko beam including the gyroscopic effect. The flexible supporting structure with a complex shape which includes stator core, housing, base plate, sleeve and thrust pad is modeled by using a 4-node tetrahedron element with rotational degrees of freedom to satisfy the geometric compatibility. The dynamic coefficients of HDB are calculated from the HDB analysis program, which solves the perturbed Reynolds equation using FEM. Introducing the virtual nodes and the rigid link constraints defined in the center of HDB, beam elements of the shaft are connected to the solid elements of the sleeve and thrust pad through the spring and damper element. The global matrix equation obtained by assembling the finite element equations of each substructure is transformed to the state-space matrix-vector equation, and the associated eigen value problem is solved by using the restarted Arnoldi iteration method. The validity of this research is verified by comparing the numerical results of the natural frequencies with the experimental ones. Also the effect of supporting structures to the natural modes of the total HDD system is rigorously analyzed.
In an oil hydraulic vane pump for an automobile, it is very important that the vane doesn't separate from the camring inner race during the operation of the vane pump. The vane generally has not only the oil hydraulic force acting on the bottom face to contact to camring inner race but there is also an inertial force and viscous force. Because the oil hydraulic force is much larger than the other forces, the contact state between the vane tip and the camring inner race is sufficient. However, the contact state between the vane tip and the camring inner race is only affected by the inertial and viscous forces during the delivery of the vane pump, because the oil hydraulic force acting on the vane is in equilibrium. If the inertial force is larger than the viscous force, which happens when the vane is separated from the camring inner race, the delivery of the vane pump can become unstable or the volume efficiency can become decrease rapidly. Therefore, in this paper, the state of the contact between the vane and the camring is considered. The results show that the rotating speed of the shaft, the operating temperature of the oil, the clearance between the vane and the rotor, and the mass of the vane exert a great influence on the state of the contact between the vane and the camring.

This occurs when the unbalanced rotating body is inconsistent with the mass center line axis geometric center line. Wheelsets are assembled by a single axle with two wheels and a rotating body of a running railway vehicle. Owing to non-uniformity of the wheel material, the wear, and error of the wheel and axle assembly may cause an imbalance. Wheelsets will suffer the effects of vibrations due to the unbalanced mass, which becomes more pronounced due to the thin and high-speed rotation compared to the shaft diameter This can affect the driving safety and the running behavior of a rail car during high-speed running. Therefore, this study examined this unbalanced wheel using a railway vehicle multibody dynamics analysis tool to assess the impact of the dynamic VI-Rail movement of high-speed railway vehicles. Increasing the extent of wheel imbalance on the analysis confirmed that the critical speed of a railway vehicle bogie is reduced and the high-speed traveling dropped below the vehicle dynamic behaviour. Therefore, the adverse effects of the amount of a wheel imbalance on travel highlight the need for management of wheel imbalances. In addition, the static and dynamic management needs of a wheel imbalance need to be presented to the national rail vehicles operating agency.
