  • This paper presents the result of a study on the starter control for a turbo generator. Because a starter in gear box type turbo-generator system is composed of gearbox and brush DC motor, it should be replaced with High Speed Generator(HSG)) in HSG type Turbo-generator. There-ore, it is necessary to design a new starting algorithm and starter. In gearbox type system, brush DC motor is rotated to the designed speed using low voltage-high current battery power. After brush DC motor speed is increased to several times by gearbox, gas turbine engine can be rotated to designed starting speed. If we implement a starter with High Speed Generator(HSG), it is necessary to drive high-speed generator to high-speed motor. High-speed generator with permanent magnet on rotor has a low leakage inductance fur driving high-speed rotation, and it is necessary high DC link voltage for inverter when High-speed generator is driven to high speed. This paper presents result of development of the boost converter for converting high voltage DC from low battery voltage and design of the inverter for controlling a high frequency current to be injected to motor winding. Also, we show performance of the designed starter by driving the turbo generator.

  • This paper describes the design, construction, and fundamental testing of a precision rotational device that utilizes piezoelectric elements as a source of driving force and impact drive mechanism as a driving principle. A novel device structure is designed and the numerical simulations about the static displacement, stress distribution, and mode shape of the designed structure are performed. A fabricated rotational device has been rotated successfully by applying saw-shaped voltages to the piezoelectric elements. The one-step rotational angle was $0.44{\times}10^{-3}$ rad at the applied voltages of 80V. The angular velocities of the device were revealed to be increased as the driving frequency and voltage were respectively increased and the preload was decreased. The device has a feature that it can be translated as well as rotated. An experimental result shows that the device was translated by ${\pm}4.56{\mu}m$ maximum when the 120V sinusoidal voltages with a phase difference of $180^{\circ}$ were respectively supplied to two piezoelectric elements.

  • The LHCP circularly polarized antenna operating at the satellite broadcast receiving band is developed by employing the sequential-rotation technique in which each truncated-corner patch square element is arranged in the triangular lattice type. Antenna designed with sequentially rotated technique of triangular lattice type has the effect of improved axial-ratio bandwidth, cross-polarization etc., and the degradation of radiation pattern can be reduced significantly by minimizing the radiation loss of feeding line structure. Characteristics of antenna designed is satisfied with specifications of array antenna for DBS that is -27 dB of side lobe level and -20 dB of cross-polarized level at $\Phi$=45$^{\circ}$ plane.

  • the quality of a TV is closely connected with the high quality surface of Braun tube. To get high quality surface an improved grinding system is needed. It has three main parts : the housing part of supporting frame the outershaft part rotat-ed by motor and the innershaft part having eccentricity from the rotation axis of the outershaft. the housing part and the outershaft part are connected by outerbearings, The outershaft part and the innershaft part are connected by innerbearings. Although the outershaft part is rotated at high-speed the innershaft part is not rotated by offset coupling. The high quality grinding surface can be obtained by this mechanism of panel surface grinder, Because the innershaft is unbalanced by eccentricity from rotation axis of outershaft the unbalancing vibration is resulted In this rotor system with high-speed rota-tion the unbalancing vibration makes the opertion unstable. In this research the transfer function is obtained bythe frequency response analysis of finite element model. The simu-lation result is proved by comparing with the experimental result measured by signal analyzer Then the results are corre-lated. in order to improve the design an optimization method is used instead of two-planes balancing method The parts of the 3-dimensional panel surface grinder satisfy the each constraint, The result shows that the design of the panel surface grinder can be optimized.

  • In this paper, we propose a modular neural network based classification method for handwritten numerals utilizing rotated and translated images of an input image. The whole numeral pattern space is divided into smaller spaces which overlap each other and form multiple clusters. On these multiple clusters, multiple multilayer perceptrons (MLP) neural networks, specialized in those clusters, are constructed. Thus, each MLP acts as an expert network on the corresponding cluster. An MLP is also used as a gating network functioning as a mediator among the multiple MLPs. In the learning phase, an input numeral image is dithered by tow geometric operations of translation and rotation so that new numeral images similar to original one are generated. In the recognition phase, we utilize not only input numeral image, but also nearly generated images through the rotation and the translation of the original image. Thus, multiple output values for those generated images were combined to make class decision by various combination methods. The experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, the rotating plate method extracting signal and reconstructing original image was proposed. The rotating methode has cell detector array each of which has used in the medical diagnosis X-ray photography. The major problem using the simple horizontal moving or non-moving methode is the size and number of detector cells which have the considerable affection on the sharpness and resolution of the reconstructed image. Secondary, the estimated pixel values of non-detected real points which are placed between detector cells will be the distorted pixels in the reconstructed image. Therefore, the proposed rotating plate method has the exact distribution on the uncertain pixels which were reconstructed by conventional methods to solve there problems. And then, the image using the rotated plate's cell out put signal was reconstructed on the computer simulation. The method will rotated the detector array plate to solve the reconstruction from the detector size and number of conventional methods. The result of simulation has estimated the original pixel position and 81 pixel/mm resolution which the reconsiderlation of the detector's moving orientation, the proposed method has 25 pixel/mm resolution. These results have been represented by 3-D computer graphics.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess knee joint loading in the target knee during a golf swing compared to loading rates of high impact activities such as cutting and drop landings. Nine healthy competitive golfers completed golf swings with the target foot both straight and externally rotated 30 degrees, as well as drop landings and cutting maneuvers. Motion capture data was collected at 240 Hz and ground reaction force data was collected at 2400 Hz. The frontal and transverse knee moments were examined using repeated measures ANOVA through SPSS. The abduction moments were higher in golf swings as compared to the other high impact activities (p=.010), while the external rotation moments were lower (p=.003). There were no significant differences between externally rotated and neutral golf swings. These results suggest moments applied to the knee during a golf swing are similar to those applied during a high impact activity.

  • This article reports the orthodontic treatment of a patient with skeletal mandibular retrusion and an anterior open bite due to temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ-OA) using miniscrew anchorage. A 46-year-old woman had a Class II malocclusion with a retropositioned mandible. Her overjet and overbite were 7.0 mm and -1.6 mm, respectively. She had limited mouth opening, TMJ sounds, and pain. Condylar resorption was observed in both TMJs. Her TMJ pain was reduced by splint therapy, and then orthodontic treatment was initiated. Titanium miniscrews were placed at the posterior maxilla to intrude the molars. After 2 years and 7 months of orthodontic treatment, an acceptable occlusion was achieved without any recurrence of TMJ symptoms. The retropositioned mandible was considerably improved, and the lips showed less tension upon lip closure. The maxillary molars were intruded by 1.5 mm, and the mandible was subsequently rotated counterclockwise. Magnetic resonance imaging of both condyles after treatment showed avascular necrosis-like structures. During a 2-year retention period, an acceptable occlusion was maintained without recurrence of the open bite. In conclusion, correction of open bite and clockwise-rotated mandible through molar intrusion using titanium miniscrews is effective for the management of TMJ-OA with jaw deformity.

  • In order to obtain more clear x-ray images, an antiscatter grid, which can absorb the scattered rays, is employed. In the high-resolution direct digital radiography, however, the artifacts due to the grid are visible. In this paper, within the methods of obtaining x-ray digital images by employing the rotated grids for the facility of grid artifact reduction, the previous work, where the frequencies of the artifact components on the boundary, is further analyzed and extended, and a min-max optimization for a given grid density is proposed. For practical grid densities, appropriate grid angles are provided and a grid artifact reduction algorithm is proposed for the appropriate grid angles. The proposed algorithm is tested for real x-ray digital images with a comparison, and can remove the grid artifacts while maintaining the resolution of the original image.
