Experience for The Decontamination & Decommissioning of The Core Assembly of KRR-2 Research Reactor (연구용 원자로 2호기의 로심 집합체 제염$\cdot$해체 경험)

  • The research reactor (TRIGA Mark-III(KRR-2)) was constructed and had been operated in 1972. In 1999 the radioisotope process units had stopped its operation due to normal operation of HANARO. In 2003 the core assembly was decommissioned by D&D program. The contact exposure rate on the core assembly and the rotary specimen rack are from 300mSv/h to 700mSv/h. This report describes the decontaminationing procedures, the health physics programs, and the waste management.

  • As one of the most important vertical transportation equipment in super high-rise buildings, the construction elevator directly affects the project period, cost, and effectiveness. The paper proposes a new construction elevator with single-guide rail and multi-cages. It can solve the problems of single construction elevator capacity shortage and efficacy decrease with height reduction, the occupancy of plan and elevation position of multiple construction elevators, and extension of total construction period by cycling operation of multi-cages on a single-guide rail. The paper focuses on the design and research of the main components of the equipment, such as the rotating guide rail mechanism, vertical bearing mast tie system, segmented electrical power supply system, group control scheduling system, and safety anti-collision system.

Co-incineration Characteristics of Sewage Sludge and Industrial Waste Using the Rotary Kiln Incinerator (로타리킬른 소각로를 이용한 하수슬러지와 사업장폐기물의 혼합소각 특성)

  • This research were performed to evaluate co-incineration characteristics of sewage sludge and industrial waste in rotary kiln incinerator, and provide the fundamental data. Plastic portion (42.55%) in this industrial waste showed over 3 times higher than that (11.92%) of paper. Korean proximate analysis of the waste mixed with sewage sludge and industrial waste (3 : 7, volumetric basis) showed 16.3% of moisture, 70.5% of volatile solids, and 13.2% of ash, respectively. Low heating value of the mixed waste was 4,513kcal/kg. So it was thought that the mixed waste of sewage sludge and industrial waste (containing 43% of plastics and 12% papers) has enough heating value for co-incineration. The incineration of mixed waste showed the lowest SOx and NOx concentrations at $700^{\circ}C$. However, the operation at $950^{\circ}C$ was feasible in considering dioxin and the other hazardous gases. It was concluded that use of $Ca(OH)_2$ should be under investigation for the operation at $950^{\circ}C$.

  • The objective of this study is to predict the minimization effect of the noise and vibration during the construction and the train operation regarding to the design modification of the Taegu Subway Line No. 1. It was suggested optimal control blasting methods to reduce the causing vibration Nuance to the resident in City Taegu and also proposed the better governing method to decrease the environmental hazard to the near buildings and residents during the train operation. When the high-density gaseous reaction of explosion products exerts a high pressure in motion outward, a dynamic stress field will be created in the surrounding buildings. Therefore, in the region close to the charge, permanent damage begins to occur at a great critical level of partial velocity, that is difficult from different structure as working conditions. It is reliable to predict that the damages could be reduced if we know the peak velocity and the exact reasons through the conducting of detail studies of structural analysis of the related buildings with the optimal blasting designs. A blasting technique should be deemed to take advantage of the reduction of damage of the surrounding rocks and structures to improve the in-city blasting. This is a typical in-city blasting operation where success depends on closely controlling the ground vibrations in case of better designed blasting methods. There are techniques that can be applied to prevent large vibrations from damaging the important buildings through the Route Modification of the Taegu Subway Line No. 1.

  • The screw compressor is first invented by a Swedish engineer, Alf Lysholm in 1934. Since then, the development of the screw compressor idea for industrial applications has been continued by the Swedish research organization Svenska Rotor Maskiner, often identified by its initials SRM. The first industrial application of the machine was marketed as an air compressor in the 1950s. The screw compressor which is a positive displacement type compressor compresses gases by the rotation of a pair of mating rotors. The operation of this compressor is entirely rotary and dynamically in balance. Also there is no need for any valve mechanism and there exists less mechanical wear between the parts compared to the conventional reciprocating compressors. Due to these prominent features, the screw compressor has been rapidly spread into the air compressor market replacing the conventional reciprocating compressors and begun to be applied as a refrigerant compressor since the 1960s. In this work, the operation principle of the screw compressor is described in brief and the major design parameters affecting the compressor performance are classified. The international research trend in screw compressor development is introduced and the current situation in our country is described.

  • In this paper, it is proposed to substitute the tilting operation device of hybrid multi-D.O.F system from three phase SPM to single phase torque actuator. When using tilting operation with three phase SPM which is appropriate for continuous rotary operation, there are disadvantages that electricity availability rate is low and controllability is difficult. On the other hand when using a single phase torque actuator instead of SPM, it is appropriate for sequential tilting, electricity availability rate is high, and it is easy to control. Thus this will have a great influence on the development and practical use of the system. This study designed a single phase torque actuator in consideration of the magnetic saturation. Also, this was verified with comparative analysis with SPM through FEM(finite element method) analysis values of the design model and test values of the manufactured model.

Study on a Implement Control System for Agricultural Tractors (농용 트랙터용 작업기 승.하강 제어시스템에 관한 연구)

  • Rotary and plow implements are mainly utilized for the tillage operation in Korea, and a implement control system for agricultural tractors was designed and fabricated to improve the working accuracy and efficiency. The control system was composed of three units: 1) sensors fur detection of angle of liftarm, draft force, engine rpm, tillage depth and so on, 2) a controller, and 3) hydraulic circuits, which included solenoid valves and so on, for operation of three point linkage and implements. The control system can control the speed(high and low speed) of implements by adjusting input flow rates of the hydraulic cylinder which was controled by two speed valve, which was composed of a solenoid valve and a orifice. Indoor experiments were conducted to evaluate response characteristics of the designed implement control system under experimental conditions of various engine nm, two kinds of input flow rates of the cylinder and some input frequency. The results of experiments showed the response characteristics sufficient to use as the implement control system fur agricultural tractors.

  • This paper proposes an analytical method of evaluating the maximum error by modeling the exact tool path for the tool traverse singular region in five-axis machining. It is known that the NC data from the inverse kinematics transformation of 5-axis machining can generate singular positions where incoherent movements of the rotary axes can appear. These lead to unexpected errors and abrupt operations, resulting in scoring on the machined surface. To resolve this problem, previous methods have calculated several tool positions during a singular operation, using inverse kinematics equations to predict tool trajectory and approximate the maximum error. This type of numerical approach, configuring the tool trajectory, requires much computation time to obtain a sufficient number of tool positions in a region. We have derived an analytical equation for the tool trajectory in a singular area by modeling the tool operation into a linear and a nonlinear part that is a general form of the tool trajectory in the singular area and that is suitable for all types of five-axis machine tools. In addition, we have evaluated the maximum tool-path error exactly, using our analytical model. Our algorithm can be used to modify NC data, making the operation smoother and bringing any errors to within tolerance.

A Study on the Prediction of Nitrogen Oxide Emissions in Rotary Kiln Process using Machine Learning (머신러닝 기법을 이용한 로터리 킬른 공정의 질소산화물 배출예측에 관한 연구)

  • As the secondary battery market expands, the process of producing laterite ore using the rotary kiln and electric furnace method is expanding worldwide. As ESG management expands, the management of air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases is strengthened. The rotary kiln, one of the main facilities of the pyrometallurgy process, is a facility for drying and preliminary reduction of ore, and it generate nitrogen oxides, thus prediction of nitrogen oxide is important. In this study, LSTM for regression prediction and LightGBM for classification prediction were used to predict and then model optimization was performed using AutoML. When applying LSTM, the predicted value after 5 minutes was 0.86, MAE 5.13ppm, and after 40 minutes, the predicted value was 0.38 and MAE 10.84ppm. As a result of applying LightGBM for classification prediction, the test accuracy rose from 0.75 after 5 minutes to 0.61 after 40 minutes, to a level that can be used for actual operation, and as a result of model optimization through AutoML, the accuracy of the prediction after 5 minutes improved from 0.75 to 0.80 and from 0.61 to 0.70. Through this study, nitrogen oxide prediction values can be applied to actual operations to contribute to compliance with air pollutant emission regulations and ESG management.

Study on the Establishment of Barley Cultivation System using the Power Tiller (동력경운기를 중심으로한 맥류재배의 기계화 -관작업체계 확립에 관한 연구)

  • To maintain the self-sufficiency of food production , it is required to improved the productivity and increase the effective utilization of land in the double cropping areas using improved cultivation technology. The following reasons encourage this cours of action because the overlapping rice harvest and barely seeding seasons complete for labour, the lower price of barley makes it financially less attractive to grow and these two facts together are responsible for a decrease in barley being planted in certain more seasonably marginal double cropping areas. Fro these reasons, it is desirable to carry out tests to improve the current cultivation techniques . In this interest , the following studies were carried out in the experimental field located at Banweol-myeon, Whasung-jkun, Gyeonggi-do from October 1977 to July 1978 in order to establish the mechanical method of barley cultivation using the power tiller. The summarized results are as follows. 1. The work performance in the seeding operation using the rotary barley seeder was 68 minutes per 10 ares which compares favourably with 408 min/10a using the conventional method. This is only one sixth of the time required by th conventional method. The operating costs using the rotary barley seeder was 1, 463 won per 10 areas as against 3, 486 Won per 10 ares for the conventional method, showing a saving of about 50% in comparison with the conventional method. 2. In the manure spreading operation, the work performance was 25 min/10a for the manure spreading machine , compared to 1089 min/10a for the manual operations. This is about one fourth of the time required by the conventional method, The operating costs were 810 Won/10a for the machine and 857 Won/10a for the manual labour. This cost shows little advantage by the machine over the manual labor costs. The conventional method of manure spreading will continue pending decision which will develope and improve the machine.3. Work performance in the rolling operation using the barley rolIer was 30 min/lOa which compares favourably with 135 min/10a using conventional method. This was one fourth of the time required by the conventional method. The operating costs were 514 Won/103. for the machine and 1, 003 Won/lOa for manual labour. In the weed control operation, the work performance and operating costs were 45min/lOa, 1, 399won/10a for the herbcide application using the power sprayer, 1, 149min/10a 8, 541won/lOa for the conventional method respectively. This is 26 times higher efficiency in comparison to the conventional method. 4. In the harvesting operation using the reaper binder and tiller attachment, the work performance was 60min/lOa and represents a cost of 2, 039won/10a. The con\ulcornerventional method took 640min/10a at a cost of 4, 757won/lOa. The reaper binder showns a saving of one tenth over the conventional method. The automatic thresher is already recommended for the current situations, and is now being used. 5. From a comparison of the results of the above trials, the serial cultivation system using the attachment for the power tiller such as the rotary barley seeder is now to be recommended for the current barley cultivation system. It is also recommend from these results that the mechanized technology now available must be used to improve and maintain the increase in barley production. It is seen th1t this is the only course now avaihble to solve the peak seasonal requirements of labour needed for l11rvesting and seeding between rice and barley cultivation.
