  • Square root models were developed for predicting the kinetics of growth of Listeria monocytogenes in sesame leaves as a function of temperature (4, 10, or $25^{\circ}C$). At these storage temperatures, the primary growth curves fit well ($R^2=0.898$ to 0.980) to a Gompertz equation to obtain lag time (LT) and specific growth rate (SGR). The square root models for natural logarithm transformations of the LT and SGR as a function of temperature were obtained by SAS's regression analysis. As storage temperature ($4-25^{\circ}C$) decreased, LT increased and SGR decreased, respectively. Square root models were identified as appropriate secondary models for LT and SGR on the basis of most statistical indices such as coefficient determination ($R^2=0.961$ for LT, 0.988 for SGR), mean square error (MSE=0.l97 for LT, 0.005 for SGR), and accuracy factor ($A_f=1.356$ for LT, 1.251 for SGR) although the model for LT was partially not appropriate as a secondary model due to the high value of bias factor ($B_f=1.572$). In general, our secondary model supported predictions of the effects of temperature on both LT and SGR for L. monocytogenes in sesame leaves.

  • This paper describes about the method for designing an extended Kalman filter to accurately measure the position of the spatial-phase system using a semiconductor sensor. Spatial position is expressed by the correlation of the rotated coordinate system attached to the body from the inertia coordinate system (a fixed coordinate system). To express the attitude, quaternion was adapted as a state variable, Then, the state changes were estimated from the input value which was measured in the gyro sensor. The observed data is the value obtained from the acceleration sensor. By matching between the measured value in the acceleration sensor and the predicted calculation value, the best variable was obtained. To increase the accuracy of estimation, designation of the extended Kalman filter was performed, which showed excellent ability to adjust the estimation period relative to the sensor property. As a result, when a three-axis gyro sensor and a three-axis acceleration sensor were adapted in the estimator, the RMS(Root Mean Square) estimation error in simulation was retained less than 1.7[$^{\circ}$], and the estimator displayed good property on the prediction of the state in 100 ms measurement period.

  • Simultaneous measurements of velocity and OH distribution were made using particle image velocimetry(PIV) and planar laser-induced fluorescence(PLIF) of OH radical in turbulent hydrogen nonpremixed flames with coaxial air. The OH radical was used as an approximate indicator of chemical reaction zone. The OH layer was correlated well with the stoichiometric velocity, $U_s$, instantaneously and on average. In addition, high strain-rate regions almost coincide with the OH distribution. The residence time in flame surface, calculated from the root-mean-square value of the radial velocity, is proportional to $(x/d_F)^{0.7}$. It is found that the mean value of principal strain rate on the OH layer can be scaled with $(x/d_F)^{-0.7}$ and therefore, the product of the residence time and the mean strain rate remains constant over all axial positions.

  • The present study describes the methods and standards for the combustion stability assessment of a thrust chamber and a gas generator as parts of a liquid rocket engine. The first method uses a statistical approach through typical static combustion tests and the second one a dynamic assessment identifying decaying characteristics of pressure fluctuations excited by a pulse generating device. Based on accumulated test results, it is concluded that the maximal values for combustion stability are 3% of a chamber static pressure with a Root-Mean-Square value of pressure fluctuations, and 10 msec with a decay time.

  • With the rapid development of the film industry, the number of films is significantly increasing and movie recommendation system can help user to predict the preferences of users based on their past behavior or feedback. This paper proposes a movie recommendation system based on the latent factor model with the adjustment of mean and bias in rating. Singular value decomposition is used to decompose the rating matrix and stochastic gradient descent is used to optimize the parameters for least-square loss function. And root mean square error is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed system. We implement the proposed system with Surprise package. The simulation results shows that root mean square error is 0.671 and the proposed system has good performance compared to other papers.

  • Objectives: To examine the surface topography of intact WaveOne (WO; Dentsply Sirona Endodontics) and WaveOne Gold (WOG; Dentsply Sirona Endodontics) nickel-titanium rotary files and to evaluate the presence of alterations to the surface topography after root canal preparations of severely curved root canals in molar teeth. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight severely curved canals of extracted molar teeth were divided into 2 groups (n = 24/each group). In group 1, the canals were prepared using WO and in group 2, the canals were prepared using WOG files. After the preparation of 3 root canals, instruments were subjected to atomic force microscopy analysis. Average roughness and root mean square values were chosen to investigate the surface features of endodontic files. The data was analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and post hoc Tamhane's tests at 5% significant level. Results: The surface roughness values of WO and WOG files significantly changed after use in root canals (p < 0.05). The used WOG files exhibited higher surface roughness change when compared with the used WO files (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Using WO and WOG Primary files in 3 root canals affected the surface topography of the files. After being used in root canals, the WOG files showed a higher level of surface porosity value than the WO files.

  • This paper presents a new realization of the implicit root-mean-square (RMS) detector, employing three second-generation current conveyors and MOS transistors. The proposed circuit can be applied in measuring the RMS value of complex, periodic signals, represented in the form of the Fourier series. To verify the theoretical analysis, circuit Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis simulations and experiment results are included, showing agreement with the theory.

  • This work describes the modeling of cutting process for feedback control based on signal processing in end-milling. Here, cutting force is used to design control model by a variety of schemes which are moving average, ensemble average, peak value, root mean square and analog low-pass filtering. It is expected that each model offers its own peculiar advantage in following cutting force control.

  • In this study, positioning results that combined the code observation information of GPS and GLONASS navigation satellites were analyzed. Especially, the distribution of GLONASS satellites observed in Korea and the combined GPS/GLONASS positioning results were presented. The GNSS data received at two reference stations (GRAS in Europe and KOHG in Goheung, Korea) during a day were processed, and the mean value and root mean square (RMS) value of the position error were calculated. The analysis results indicated that the combined GPS/GLONASS positioning did not show significantly improved performance compared to the GPS-only positioning. This could be due to the inter-system hardware bias for GPS/GLONASS receivers, the selection of transformation parameters between reference coordinate systems, the selection of a confidence level for error analysis, or the number of visible satellites at a specific time.

  • The fatigue process of the triceps surae was evaluated during a standing heel-rise test, comparising of pre-fatigue and post-fatigue. Sixteen healthy subjects with a mean age of 22.88 years participated. The heel-rise test was performed until exhaustion, and electromyographic activity expressed as mean value and root mean square of the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles were calculated. The average number of heel-rise performed was 63.69$\pm$26.10. The result of this present study indicate that the EMG signal is sensitive to the different muscle fatigue. Mean value and RMS decreased significantly in after fatigue. Significant difference were found between the pre-fatigue and post-fatigue in the total subjects. But there were no significant changes in mean and RMS between the male and female during standing heel-rise test. The present results, showing decreased EMG signal in the triceps surae, could be used as reference when testing the fatigue process in different clinical conditions. Recommendations for standardization of a heel-rise test are given.
