  • There are three methods for analyzing flow and pressure distribution in looped water distribution networks (the loop method, the node method, the element method) taking into consideration hydraulic parameters chosen as unknown. For all these methods the non-linear system of equations can be solved by iterative procedures. The paper presents a different approach to this problem by using the method of variational formulations for hydraulic analysis of water distribution networks. This method has the advantage that it uses a specialized optimization algorithm which minimizes directly an objective multivariable function without constraints, implemented in a computer program. The paper compares developed method to the classic Hardy-Cross method. This shows the good performance of the new method.

  • The present paper summarizes the experimental research carried out at the "Politehnica" University of Timisoara, Romania, with the scope of investigating the influence of different column web stiffening solutions on the performance of beam-to-column joints of Moment Resisting Steel Frames. The response parameters, such as resistance, rigidity and ductility were examined. Five different types of panel web stiffening were compared with regard to a reference test. A quasi-linear relationship between the moment capacity and the total shear area of the web panel was observed from the experimental tests while the initial rigidity increased non-proportionally with the same area. Comparisons are presented of the experimental tests with the mathematical model developed by Krawinkler and with the model stipulated in Eurocode 3 Part 1.8. These comparisons showed a generally good agreement in the case of moment capacity, while the computed rigidities were always greater than the experimental rigidities.

  • Two species of the genus Koreocobitis in Korea are reviewed with a key to species and their illustrations: Koreocobitis rotundicaudata and K. naktongensis sp. nov. A new species, Koreocobitis naktongensis is described based on 9 specimens collected from the Naktong River, Korea. The new species is distinguished from Koreocobitis rotundicaudata by the following combination of characters: yellow body colouration with many brownish speckles, truncate caudal fin, fewer vertebrae, and longer head. It is remarked biogeographically that Koreocobitis naktongensis is distributed only in the Naktong River, Korea.

  • The fire resistance of composite steel and concrete structures may be determined by using the simplified methods provided in EN 1994-1-2. For the particular situations not covered by the standard, an advanced calculation model might be applied, using special purpose programs for the analysis of structures in fire. The validation of these programs has always been an important issue for software developers, but also for designers and authorities. Clause 4.4.4 from EN 1994-1-2 refers to the validation of the advanced calculation models and states that these models must be validated through relevant test results. The paper presents the calculation of fire resistance of the composite columns in a high-rise building built in Romania, and focusses on the validation of the calculation model (computer program SAFIR), for this particular case. This validation, asked by the Romanian authorities, considers the available experimental results of a fire test, performed on a similar composite steel-concrete column.

  • In this paper it is proposed an advanced modified sliding mode control of a rotor field oriented control of induction motor. The application of this unconventional control has very good results, such as disturbance rejection and nice dynamic properties. Stability can be guaranteed even in the worst situation. A conventional "sliding mode" controller is characterised by fast switching control signal, which causes the chattering of the drive system. To overcome this problem, a modified law is used, by introducing a hysteresis band and a continuous control, which modifies the conventional law. The control is accomplished with dual TMS320C44 floating-point digital signal processor. The validity of the proposed method was verified by experiment on the propulsion system simulator, used for the development of Korean High-Speed Railway Train(KHSRT).in(KHSRT).

  • RF MEMS is a miniature device or an array of integration devices and mechanical components and fabricated with If batch-processing techniques. RF MEMS application area are in phased arrays and reconfigurable apertures for defence and telecommunication systems, switching network for satellite communication, and single-pole double throw switches for wireless application. Recently, RF MEMS switches have been developed for the application to the milimeter wave system. RF MEMS switches offer a substantilly higher performance than PM diode or FET switches. In this paper, SPDT(single-pole-double-throw) switch are designed to use 10 GHz. Actuation voltage and displacement are simulated by tool. And stress and distribution are simulated.

  • We divide the timeline of the history of Finsler geometry, which dates back to Riemann's inaugural lecture in 1854, into three periods (hibernation, hiatus, rebirth) and we study formation of Romanian Finsler school around Iasi, Romania during the hiatus period. We look for the history centered around Radu Miron who is a third generation geometer of Iasi University and the mathematical heritage there through five generations. We also investigate mathematical impact of T. Levi-Civita, D. Hilbert, ${\acute{E}}$ Cartan who are considered as top mathematicians at their time.

  • This study aims to understand the differences in cultural and emotional perceptions about the color image of public healthcare facilities in Romania, an Eastern European country that is relatively lacking in recognition but is gradually expanding trade. For this, color images were selected through a review of previous studies, and a questionnaire survey was constructed based on the colorimetric data by visiting 8 public healthcare facilities such as medical facilities, 4 social sports facilities, and 8 nursing facilities. An online survey was conducted on the color image of public facilities with 89 Koreans and 86 Romanians, and frequency and cross-analysis was conducted using the SPSS statistical analysis program to examine the color images of public healthcare facilities of Koreans and Romanians. The difference in perception was identified. As a result, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference in the perception of color images of public healthcare facilities between countries in vocabulary evaluation and image evaluation, and this was interpreted as different meanings for groups residing in different cultures. Therefore, it implies that cultural differences in perception should be considered when establishing an environment related to this in the future.

  • My paper aims to discuss the possibility of training Korean Studies professionals in Eastern Europe. This paper has two aspects. One was discussed in three aspects about the role of Korean Studies experts in the local area. In addition, discussions were held in various aspects, focusing on the possibility of fostering Korean Studies scholars in Eastern Europe, with a focus on the Babes-Bolyai University in Romania, Eőtvős Lorand University in Romania, and Sofia St. Kliment Ohridski University in Bulgaria. For this study, concretely compared situation of lectures, students, professors in Korean Studies managed by these Universities. After addressing them in depth, suggested realistic improvements of problems which these Universities have in common. Especially in order to complement insufficient lectures of Korean Studies in these Universities, using the CEEPUS(Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies) actively which is operated by some of Universities in Eastern Europe is one of good methods and more need to expand the CEEPUS for developing Korean Studies in this area. And for developing teaching materials of Korean Studies suitable for local situation, local experts in Korean Studies and experts related fields in Korea need to highly cooperate with each other. As a final suggestion, for maintaining and developing the major of Korean Studies in Universities of Eastern Europe is very important in order to cultivate Korean Studies professionals in Eastern Europe.

  • Large Loss-of-Coolant Accidents analyzed in Final Safety Analysis Reports are usually covered by Reactor Inlet Header. Reactor Outlet Header and Primary Pump Suction breaks as representative cases. In this study we analyze the total (guillotine) break of an Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) pipe located at the ECCS injection point into the Primary Heat Transport System (PHTS). It was expected that thermal-hydraulic behaviors in the PHT and ECC systems are different from those of a Reactor Inlet Header break, having an equivalent break size. The main purpose of this study is to get insights on the differences occurred between the two cases and to assess these differences from the phenomenon behavior point of view. It was also investigated whether the ECCS line break analysis results could be covered by header break analysis results. The study reveals that as the intact loop has almost the same behavior in both analyzed cases. broken loop behavior is different mostly regarding sheath temperature in the critical core pass and pressure decrease in the broken Reactor Inlet Header. Differences are also met in the ECCS behavior and in event sequences timings.
