  • This paper explores the concept of mobile gaming platforms and changes in game play through mobile parameters, focusing on the role of role-playing mobile games through mobile parameters. As a move, the Player combines the mobile media with the game platform. The daily time of the mobile mid-dividualization is reconstructed with the principle of superposition, which affects play experience on the mobile gaming platform. The character of a mobile role-playing game plays a non-integrated play where the player is staying, rather than an avatar character, and exhibits a non-dwelling character as a residential space. Automatic battle also regenerates unused combat forces in the form of explicit integration. The experience of combat in overlapping hours serves as a visual spectacle, and the player inhabits the fighter jets.

  • Playing online games is popular among adolescents and may contribute to such social issues as game addiction and cyber-delinquency. The present study conducted an ethnographic analysis that addressed basic descriptive questions around the social significance of online games. The main findings were that peer pressure plays an important role; that is, adolescents play the games to fulfill their need to occupy higher levels of cyber-status among game players and build special relationships. They like to make money and buy what they want with money earned from game item deals. Game scenarios and mechanisms play an important role in game addiction. Adolescents sometimes exhibit social delinquency in cyberspace or the real world. Thus, adolescents' needs, game addiction and cyber-delinquency are intertwined.

  • The success of Nintendo's Wii has changed the paradigm of console game. Existing games and consoles set up the game-playing system of complicated commands, narratives, and significantly advanced the degree of difficulty by the device's excellent capacity and the superiority of graphic in order to draw so called "Game Manias", while Nintendo established the easy game-playing system for not only game manias but women and elderly people. Such an innovation has carried out the most important role for Nintendo to dominate the market all over the world by 47.4% market share of consoles. In addition, it provided the users with unique interaction and emotional experience. In this study, we analyze the case above in terms of product design strategy, particularly emotional design strategy between Nintendo & Sony.

  • With the development of technology, the procedures for making systems are altered. Jobs that were initially difficult with technology have become easier. Likewise with work as a developer. In this era, it takes work that can be done quickly, precisely, and accurately. Inspired by the Copernicus' theory that the sun is the center of the solar system, this research aims to create a plugin that is integrated with the Unity game engine so that it can create dungeons quickly and dynamically using the orbital dungeon generation method. In general, games that have several dungeons are role playing games genre with the roguelike subgenre, where games of this type are widely adopted by well-known games. This method is expected to be employed by developers, especially game developers, to simplify and speed up the creation of games using dungeons, because the complexity of the system that is made can be adjusted according to needs.

Development and Application of a Science History Role-Playing Game for High School Students' Understanding of Nature of Science: Focus on Storytelling of the Continental Drift Theory (고등학생의 과학의 본성 이해를 위한 과학사 롤플레잉게임(SHRPG) 개발 및 적용 -대륙이동설 스토리텔링을 중심으로-)

  • NOS education through the history of science is regarded effective. However, science teaching has been criticized for not considering the interest of the learners enough and providing the context of learning themes that hinder the understanding of NOS. This study intends to convey the NOS element through the rich context of storytelling. The theme of the story is the history of continental drift, in which, the debate of many scientists and Wegener's creativity are prominent. Of the various media that deliver storytelling, the most powerful medium that leads to personal immersion is computer games, and among many kinds of games, the main genre of storytelling is role-playing games (RPGs). We developed the science history role-playing game (SHRPG) focusing on continental drift. The game development procedure followed Kim's 4F process (2017), which consists of the Figure Out, Focus, Fun Design, and Finalize. The story was constructed based on the NOS elements of Lederman et al. (2002), namely creativity and imagination demand, subjectivity, socio-cultural personality and tentativeness, which are all present in the story of the continental drift theory. The mechanics and rules of the RPG included quests, rewards, quizzes, NOS scores, and rankings. In the final phase of development, the game developed was pilot tested four times. The results of the tests showed that students' understanding of NOS through SHRPG has increased, especially in the creativity domain. The students' satisfaction with the fun, sympathy, and immersion during the game was very high.

  • Game bot playing is one of the main risks in Massively Multi-Online Role Playing Games(MMORPG) because it damages overall game playing environment, especially the balance of the in-game economy. There have been many studies to detect game bot. However, the previous detection models require continuous maintenance efforts to train and learn the game bots' patterns whenever the game contents change. In this work, we have proposed a machine learning technique using the self-similarity property that is an intrinsic attribute in game bots and automated maintenance system. We have tested our method and implemented a system to major three commercial games in South Korea. As a result, our proposed system can detect and classify game bots with high accuracy.

  • Identity theft happens frequently in popular MMORPG(Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Games) where profits can be gained easily. In spite of the importance of security about identity theft in MMORPG, few methods to prevent and detect identity theft in online games have been proposed. In this study, we investigate real identity theft cases of an online game and define the representative patterns of identity theft as the speedy type, cautious type, and bold type. We then propose the automatic identity theft detection model based on the multi-class classification. We verify the system with one of the leading online games in Korea. The multi-class detection model outperforms the existing binary-class one(hacked or not).

  • In this paper, we propose a new distributed processing scheme to support MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games). But existing distributed game servers have some problems such as hotspot, congestion, server failure problems, and so on. To solve such problems, our proposed scheme begins by splitting the large virtual world into smaller regions, each region handled by a different server. We present a scheme that reduces the bandwidth requirements for both game servers and clients. Also our scheme allows seamless interaction among players residing on areas handled by different servers. We show an excellence of the proposed solution through various experiments.

  • This paper measures and compares the traffic of a series of Massively Multiplayer On-line Role Playing Games(MMORPG). The target games are 'Lineage' and 'Lineage II' developed by NCsoft, which are ones of the world's largest MMORPGs in terms of the number of concurrent users. We collected about 1 tera bytes of packets of 'Lineage II' for four days including a weekend. These packets are analyzed and compared with those of 'Lineage.' Packet size, packet inter-arrival time, and bandwidth usage are compared. The traffic of the two games shows much difference because original 'Lineage' is a kind of 2-D based MMORPG, while 'Lineage II' is 3-D based. By comparing the characteristics of the traffic of these games, we can anticipate future needs of network and game structure.

  • Recently, The online role playing games (RPG) get into spotlight of worldwide game marketing area because of the rapid growth of high speed Internet environment during a decade. The almost online RPGs are made of campaign scenario that constructed in series. In this paper, we propose the Distributed Server Model for the Evolutionary Online RPGs which have series scenario (Campaign). In order to represents evolutionary online RPGs, We configure the online RPG server uniquely by means of one to one mapping between logical and physical game world. We also configure the game worlds using circular queue form to express the evolution of civilization by reconstruction of game world.
