Rapidly changing information technologies and changes in new information type provide a new turning point in librarian's role and job as an information specialist. A library traditionally processes and manages paper-type information resources. But, with new requirements to library and changes of information sources, a digital library for use, management, and delivery of information came into existence. The appearance of digital library provides new direction for information processing and requires various changes in roles of information specialists for appropriately and quickly providing information and knowledge for users. The developments of information technology related to information and knowledge and environmental changes around library provide information specialist, who have a role in information processing and delivery, with new challenging areas. On the other hand, the traditional library areas can be infringed upon by those factors. With such rapid changes, an information specialist with a major in library and information science makes various efforts to keep their status as an information specialist and performs their role in information siciety. Currently, they partially lead an active role in the areas relating information and knowledge. This paper focuses on information specialist' current status and role in not library areas but new areas related to information technologies, and figures out requirements to take firm position in those areas.

This study examines the structure and contents of the various programs offered by the Cologne City Library in Cologne, Germany, and discusses its implications for the role of the changing public libraries in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Cologne Municipal Library, which has continuously played a leading role in the education of German libraries since its opening, has been transforming itself to become a center for producing information and knowledge and developing culture in accordance with the dynamic era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Currently, the Cologne Municipal Library plays a role as a multi-cultural space in the community where local members can experience various cultures, such as movies, music and games, and create a culture, beyond the traditional functions of library collection and preservation. The program of the City Library in Cologne, Germany, will help to redesign the functions and roles of public libraries in Korea in the future, and plan library contents for local members.

This article delves into community archives based on the archival project of Dongjak-gu Public Library on the search toward sustainability. Dongjak-gu has conducted a local archiving project that involves collecting local records, focusing on the role of local public institutions as representative districts in the local region after the library was established in September 2013. Thus far, we are managing the project and records that are piled at the public library, and as the placement for archiving local records conducted in a local public library does not match its role, the national/city/province system for archiving local records faces a challenge for long-term sustainability. Therefore, we would like to present an idea for sustainability by discussing our concerns and experiences in this paper.

As growing internet, the knowledge management system(KMS) is newly introduced in business. And the KMS is very similar with traditional library. By grafting the KMS on the library, to input effectively in production line the knowledge that is important to knowledge society as a production factor, it is necessary to unificate with KMS and library. That unification is finally a new model for 21centry library.

With the rapid change of information environment, this study suggests role models and strategies for the university library in Korea based on the subject specialization. By analyzing the current situation and problems of university library, this research presents various directions for the subject specialization. Major research issues are (1) university library's subject specialization directions, models, and factors, (2) subject specialized librarian' s role and education system, (3) basic framework for customized information service and user education, (4) enhancement of subject specialization through subject gateway, (5) academic information sharing system.

The school library plays an important role to improve the student's mental activity and cultivate the formation of character and emotion. Especially in the information society, the students must collect, select and utilize the necessary information themselves. The school library has to collect, put in order and keep the book, audiovisual material and necessary information beyond it about the entire education and to offer the students and teachers them for the general school education. The school library has to be a center of school education and drive forwards the spontaneous and subjective learning activity as well as progress the education process. The school library must be the place to preserve the student's subjective study ability, that is, consolidate the materials as the study center and be composed of proper study materials for the solving-problem and research. Also to be perfect in the role of the information center, the school library has to be consolidated in accordance with development of various information softwares and ways including the newspaper, magazine, video, CD, laser disk and computer. It is required for the information of school library to be corresponded actively to the multi-media society.

The purpose of this study is to examine the images of libraries and librarians in Korean children's literature. For this purpose, fourteen children's fictions that the main background is library are analyzed. Library's role appeared in the children's fictions is focused on reading books. In the children's fictions, librarians are usually women and described as friendly and active people. And their role is shown as strongly committed to children's reading activities. Library services and activities for information literacy education and cultural development of children is hardly reflected in the fictions. It implicates that the libraries and librarians in children's literature is very reflective of those in the real world.

This study attempted to analyze the contents of the public library steering committee-related ordinances, derive problems and implications, and based on this, suggest the contents and supplementations necessary for the construction of the library steering committee ordinance. To this end, first, we looked at the theoretical background such as the significance and role of the public library steering committee, and the nature of the ordinance. Second, it was analyzed by dividing it into five areas: the status of enactment of ordinances related to library steering committee, whether provisions related to library steering committee are included, composition content, composition method, function, conference and regulation enactment, and allowance payment. Based on this analysis, it was mentioned that it is necessary to establish a department in charge of ordinances, a library steering committee, guarantee the participation of library directors and library experts, hold regular meetings, disclose minutes, and reflect the results of committee deliberation. In addition, when enacting a standard ordinance items containing the name, nature and role, composition, meeting, sub-organization, rule of the library steering committee.

The purpose of this study is to examine the status of Korean library staffs and their role who were alienated as a subjugated class in Japanese Colonial Era and re-evaluate their effort. For these, firstly, this study investigated libraries that Korean librarian worked and the status of Korean staffs. Secondly, examined their position and its role in the library. Lastly, investigated the status of Korean librarians' participation for training and submission of magazine related to library. As a result, in Japanese Colonial Era, there were totally 241 Korean library staffs in 27 libraries. 73 and 22 librarians each attended the Library Institute and The 29th National Library Conference. And contributors to major library magazins were reached to 40. With this result, it can be evaluated that these library staffs made some parts of efforts making modern libraries in Korea.

The library collects relevant documents, organizes these documents, retrieves and provides relevant documents, and helps the user use provided documents. These library activities are the distribution process of relevant documents in a society, and the role of library science is to deal with several problems in this process. This process is to facilitate the production of socially relevant documents, to select documents relevant to an individual user, and to enable the user to use the selected documents. As a result, this process should be based on the concept of "relevance". As a result, the academic role of library science should be considered based on "relevance". "Relevance" is getting more important to meet the change of the environment of library services, which is getting more complex and changing rapidly because of the computer and the computer network. It is true that these are very important tool for document distribution. However, the problems in the document distribution can not be solved only by the simple development of these tools because these have been caused by the simple development of these tools.
