  • In order to augment the robustness of OFDM system to Rayleigh multipath fading, there exist two smart antenna algorithms, namely, Pre-FFT smart antenna and Post-FFT smart antenna. After the mathematical modeling of both smart antenna algorithms, computer simulations have been carried to compare and analyze the performance of generalized eigen problem based Pre-FFT algorithm and the performance of Wiener solution based Post-FFT algorithm. It has been shown that the Post-FFT smart antenna far outperforms the Pre-FFT smart antenna due to the computational complexities. Especially it is so when the multipath signal arrives at beyond the guard interval and a rich co-channel interferer is introduced. Performance of a subcarrier clustering method proposed to lessen the computing load has been compared to that of a typical Wiener solution based Post-FFT smart antenna. Performance comparison between MRC(Maximum Ratio Combining) diversity based Post-FFT algorithm and typical Post-FFT algorithm has also been carried.

  • A robust direct adaptive controller with respect to additive and multiplicative unmodeled dynamics is designed. A new term, proportional to the product of the bounded tracking error and normalizing signal, is added to the conventional control input for improvement of robustness and performances of an adaptive system. It is shown by the mathematical analysis and simulation results that the stability of the closed loop system is guaranteed and the performance of the system is improved.

  • In this paper we present a new PID controller design method using IMC design. The PID controller is derived based on the ${\infty}$-norm of sensitivity function to guarantee stability and performance robustness. This new PID controller is suitable for the plant with right half plane zeros or with time delay. The Simulation results show that the new method is superior to Ziegler-Nichols, Morari-Zafiriou, Mattezzoni-Rocco methods in respects in overshoot and settling time.

  • In this paper, we design a Continuous Variable Structure Controller which can control robot manipulators to follow the desired planned trajectory with accuracy and robustness, and improve continuity and robustness of variable structure control, based on disturbance observer. We also analyze the stability the proposed algorithm and then verify the usefulness and performance through simulation stuies.

  • Sliding mode control method is popularly used for robustness to distrurbance and variance of systems internal parameter. However, one of the serious problem of this method is Chattering which occurs in neighborhood of sliding manifold. Another problem is that we cannot expect robustness before system starts sliding mode. A new tuning method of sliding manifold which changes the parameter of sliding manifold dynamically using Wavelet Neural Network is proposed in this paper. We can expect the better performance in sliding mode control by the wavelet neural networks excellent property of approximating arbitrary function for multi-resolution analysis and decrease chattering drastically.

  • In recent years, the size of data set which we usually handle is enormous, so a lot of outliers could be included in data set. Therefore the robust procedures that automatically handle outliers become very importance issue. We consider the robust estimation problem of location parameter in the univariate case. In this paper, we propose a new method for defining robustness weights for the weighted mean based on the median distance of observations and compare its performance with several existing robust estimators by a simulation study. It turns out that the proposed method is very competitive.

  • Although the fuzzy logic controller(FLC) has been adopted in many engineering applications, its performance is not guaranteed since there is no definite theoretic analysis. It may be the main factor that one hesitates to adopt the FLC in critical applications. In this paper, observing the similarity in the pattern of control input between the FLC and a conventional robust controller, i.e., the variable structure controller, we present theoretic analysis for robustness of a fuzzy control system based on the Lyapunov theory.

  • Reflection measurements are critical to the evaluation of display performance under ambient illumination conditions. Various hemispherical reflection methods are evaluated for their suitability and robustness across display technologies. The standard integrating sphere method is compared to a sampling sphere apparatus.

  • Bimodal speech recognition based on lip reading has been studied as a representative method of speech recognition under noisy environments. There are three integration methods of speech and lip modalities as like direct identification, separate identification and dominant recording. In this paper we evaluate the robustness of lip reading methods under the assumption that lip parameters are estimated with errors. We show that the dominant recording approach is more robust than other methods through lip reading experiments.

  • in this paper, each methodology, e.g. normal single PID controller, direct synthesis method and inverse response compensator, will be compared to determine the best inverse response plant control method, by based on the appearance of the control performance and robustness from the simulation results. The flexibility of being able to maintain the system stability during the presence of plant model mismatch is one of the criteria to measure the robustness of overall control system. Once, plant has changed the condition, the model will need to be updated. Hence, the designed controller will not work properly. The caused of plant model mismatch is stayed by definition unknown but the most possib...
