In general, the swing motion of the crane is controlled and suppressed by activating the trolley motion. In many papers reported by us, we suggested a new type of anti-sway control system of the crane. In the proposed control system, a small auxiliary mass(moving-mass) is installed on the spreader and the swing motion is controlled by moving the auxiliary mass. The actuator reaction against the auxiliary mass applies inertial control forces to the container in order to reduce the swing motion in the desired manner. The measuring system is based on laser sensor or others. However it is not so useful in real world. Especially, in this paper, the image sensor is used to measures the motions of the spreader and the measured data are fed back to the controller in real time. The applied image processing technique is a kind of robust template matching method which is named Vector Code Correlation (VCC) and devised to consider the real environmental conditions. And the $H_{\infty}$ based control technique is applied to suppress swing motion of the crane. And the experimental result shows that the proposed measurement system based on image sensor and control system is useful and robust to disturbances.

This paper presents the robust mobile robot localization method exploiting redundant motion information acquired from three optical mice that are installed at the bottom of a mobile robot in a regular triangular form. First, we briefly introduce a low-cost optical motion sensor, HDNS-2000, and a commercial device driver development tools, WinDriver, to be used in this research. Second, we explain the basic principle of the mobile robot localization using the motion information from three optical mice, and propose the least squares based localization algorithm which is robust to the noisy measurement and partial malfunctioning of optical mice. Third, we describe the development of the experimental optical odometer using three PC optical mice and the user-friendly graphic monitoring program. Fourth, simulations and experiments are performed to demonstrate the validity of the proposed localization method and the operation of the developed optical odometer. Finally, along with the conclusion, we suggest some future work including the installation parameter calibration, the optical mouse remodelling, and the high-performance motion sensor adoption.
A robust controller for a 6 DOF magnetically levitated fine manipulator is presented. The proposed controller consists of following two parts : a model reference controller (MRC) and a H$_{\infty}$ controller (HIC). First, the MRC stabilizes the motion of the manipulator. Then, the motion of the manipulator follows that of the reference model. Second, the HIC minimizes errors generated from the MRC due to noise and disturbance since the HIC is a kind of robust controller. The experiments of position control and tracking control are carried out by use of the proposed controller under the conditions of free disturbances and forced disturbances. Also, the experiments using PID controller are carried out under the same conditions. The results from above two controllers are compared to investigate the control performances. As the results, it is observed that the proposed controller has similar position accuracy but better tracking performances comparing to the PID controller as well as good disturbance rejection effect due to the robust characteristics of the controller. In conclusion, it is verified that the proposed controller has the simple control structure, the good tracking performances and good disturbance rejection effect due to the robust characteristics of the controller..

A new control algorithm for the yaw motion control of a unicycle robot has been proposed in this paper. With the increase of life quality, there are various transportation systems such as segway and unicycle robot which provide not only transportation but also amusement. In most of the unicycle robots share the same technology in that the directions of roll and pitch are controlled by the balance controllers, allowing the robots to maintain balance for a long period by continuously moving forward and backward. However, one disadvantage of this technology is that it cannot provide the capability to the robots to avoid obstacles in their path way. This research focuses to provide the yawing function to the unicycle robot and to control the yaw motion to avoid the obstacles as desired. For the control of yawing motion, the yaw angle is adjusted to the inertia generated by the velocity and torque of a yawing motor which is installed in the center axes of the unicycle robot to keep the lateral control simple. Through the real experiments, the effective and robustness of the yawing control algorithm has been demonstrated.

A robust input modification approach to the control of flexible joint robot is presented. In our previous study, we developed an observer based state feedback control for the suppression of residual vibration of a robot. The control was very effective in suppressing the inherent vibration of a flexible joint robot. However it did not meet high performance requirements under high speed motion and model uncertainties. As a solution of the problem, we present an input modification method with robustness against parametric uncertainties. The main idea of the proposed input modification method is to generate a modified reference position command for fast and accurate motion of the robot. Using this proposed method we can reduce the servo delay and settling time by about 60% and substantially improve the path accuracy.

Linear matrix Inequality based $H_\infty$ robust controller is designed to control the motion of a 4-axis unbalanced rigid asymmetric rotor supported and controlled by two active magnetic bearings in this paper. To this end, the equations of motion of the system are derived via Hamilton's variational principle and transformed to a state-space form for the standard $H_\infty$ control problem. LMI-based controller, which does not require additional assumptions beyond the usual stabilizability and detectability assumptions, is designed based upon the pole place weighting function and loopshaping technique. The obtained results are compared with those reported in the available literature and the efficiency of the proposed LMI-based $H_\infty$ control is revealed.
In this paper, the design of the in-motion alignment system of Strapdown Inertial Navigation System(SDINS) using Robust Extended Kalman Filter(REKF) is presented. The compensation of errors in the aided navigation system is accomplished by the indirect feedback filtering. The performance of the aided navigation algorithm is very sensitive to the accuracy of the initial estimate, which is the characteristic of the EKF. Unfortunately, the initial attitude error can be very large during the in-motion alignment. To overcome the in-motion alignment under large initial attitude error problem, the REKF using linear robust filtering technique is proposed. The linear robust H$_2$ filter can be adopted for nonlinear ...

The neural network with radial basis function is introduced for position tracking control of AC servo drive with the existence of system uncertainties. An adaptive robust term is applied to overcome the external disturbances. The proposed controller is implemented on a high performance digital signal processing DSP TMS320C6713-300. The stability and the convergence of the system are proved by Lyapunov theory. The validity and robustness of the controller are verified through simulation and experimental results
This paper presents the digital implementation of an optimal and robust VSS controller with sliding observer. Firstly, a discrete-time VSS control law which enables the system state to move into a sliding sector where the closed-loop system is stable is designed. Then optimal control theory is used to design an optimal sliding sector. Secondly, a sliding observer which provide robust state estimation against model-plant mismatches due to parameter uncertainties is designed for the sampled-data multivariable systems. Finally, modified sliding observer which effectively reduce chattering of state variables in state estimation was proposed. The proposed scheme was applied 10 a two degree of freedom inverted pendulum with passive joint to verify robust motion control. Computer simulation results confirm the viability of the proposed observer-based controller.
