High-Order QAM에 적합한 반송파 동기회로 설계 - I부. 넓은 주파수 포착범위를 가지는 위상검출기 설계 및 분석 (Design of Carrier Recovery Circuit for High-Order QAM - Part I : Design and Analysis of Phase Detector with Large Frequency Acquisition Range)

  • 본 논문에서는 High-Order QAM(Quandrature Amplitude Modulation)을 적용하는 모뎀에서 강인하고 넓은 범위의 주파수 포착 범위를 가지는 극성판단(Polarity Decision) 반송파 동기용 PD(Phase Detector) 알고리즘을 제안하고 이에 대한 평균 출력특성(S-curve)과 분산특성을 수학적으로 유도하여 기존의 DD(Decision Directed)방식과 비교 분석한다. 기존의 DD 방식의 선형영역은 256 QAM의 경우 $3.5^{\circ}{\sim}3.5^{\circ}$ 이었으나 제안한 알고리즘의 선형영역은 ${\gamma}-17.9$에서 $36^{\circ}{\sim}36^{\circ}$ 의 넓은 구간을 가진다. 또한 기존의 DD 방식에서는 256 QAM의 주파수 오프셋 포착 성능이 ${\pm}10\;KHz$ 이하였다. 이는 아날로그 front-end 회로에서 주파수 오프셋이 일반적으로 ${\pm}100\;KHz$ 정도까지 줄어들 수 잇는 것을 감안하면 AFC(Automatic Frequency Control) 또는 반송파 복구를 위한 보조적인 위상검출회로가 필요하게 됨을 의미한다. 그러나 제안된 극성판단 반송파 동기 알고리즘을 사용하면 보조적인 회로의 도움없이 SNR = 30 dB에서 최대 ${\pm}300\;KHz$의 주파수 오프셋까지도 포착 가능하다.

  • 본 논문에서는 별도의 디지탈신호처리 칩을 사용하지 않고 PC의 주연산장치만을 사용하여 음향반향제거기를 실시간으로 구현하였다. 적응필터는 실시간처리가 가능하고 적절한 반향제거율을 갖도록 설계되었으며, 동시통화검출기는 적은 계산량, 빠른 검출성능과 안정된 동작을 보장할 수 있는 방법이 제안되었다. 실시간 반향제 거기는 166MHz 펜티엄 PC와 양방향 사운드카드로 구성되며 10% 이하의 주연산장치 시간을 필요로 한다.

  • In this paper, a novel multi-object tracking method to track an unknown number of objects is proposed. To handle multiple object states and uncertain observations efficiently, a probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter is adopted and modified. The PHD filter is capable of reducing false positives, managing object appearances and disappearances, and estimating the multiple object trajectories in a unified framework. Although the PHD filter is robust in cluttered environments, it is vulnerable to false negatives. For this reason, we propose to exploit local observations in an RFS of the observation model. Each local observation is generated by using an online trained object detector. The main purpose of the local observation is to deal with false negatives in the PHD filtering procedure. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method robustly tracked multiple objects under practical situations.

An Efficient Pedestrian Detection Approach Using a Novel Split Function of Hough Forests

  • In pedestrian detection applications, one of the most popular frameworks that has received extensive attention in recent years is widely known as a 'Hough forest' (HF). To improve the accuracy of detection, this paper proposes a novel split function to exploit the statistical information of the training set stored in each node during the construction of the forest. The proposed split function makes the trees in the forest more robust to noise and illumination changes. Moreover, the errors of each stage in the training forest are minimized using a global loss function to support trees to track harder training samples. After having the forest trained, the standard HF detector follows up to search for and localize instances in the image. Experimental results showed that the detection performance of the proposed framework was improved significantly with respect to the standard HF and alternating decision forest (ADF) in some public datasets.

  • 본 논문에서는 백색 LED를 이용한 수중 가시광 통신 시스템 개발에 대하여 기술하였다. 아날로그 음성 통신 시스템을 위하여 펄스위치변조 방식이 적용되었으며, 디지털 데이터 통신을 위하여 온-오프 키잉 변조 방식이 적용되었다. 시스템은 저가형으로 상용화된 발광소자인 백색 LED와 수광 소자인 실리콘 기반 포토다이오드를 사용하여 근거리 수중통신을 위한 트랜시버를 개발하였으며 가시광 통신의 수중 통신 적용 가능성을 보이고자 하였다. 광 감쇠와 산란 등으로 대기 중에서의 통신에 비하여 수중에서의 통신 성능이 저하되는 결과를 얻었지만 수중통신 채널에 적합한 모뎀 기술이 적용된다면 수중에서 강인한 통신인터페이스를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

  • A telerobot offers a more engaging and enjoyable interaction with people at a distance by communicating via audio, video, expressive gestures, body pose and proxemics. To provide its potential benefits at a reasonable cost, this paper presents a telepresence robot system for video communication which can deliver speaker's head motion through its display stanchion. Head gestures such as nodding and head-shaking can give crucial information during conversation. We also can assume a speaker's eye-gaze, which is known as one of the key non-verbal signals for interaction, from his/her head pose. In order to develop an efficient head tracking method, a 3D cylinder-like head model is employed and the Harris corner detector is combined with the Lucas-Kanade optical flow that is known to be suitable for extracting 3D motion information of the model. Especially, a skin color-based face detection algorithm is proposed to achieve robust performance upon variant directions while maintaining reasonable computational cost. The performance of the proposed head tracking algorithm is verified through the experiments using BU's standard data sets. A design of robot platform is also described as well as the design of supporting systems such as video transmission and robot control interfaces.

Comparison of Characteristics of P-Wave Detection in ECG with Wireless Patch Electrodes

  • P-wave characteristic in the human electrocardiogram (ECG) is important in the diagnosis of atrial conduction pathology. In this paper, we measured an ECG signal from patient with cardiovascular disease using one lead ECG electrode system which is based on the wireless cardiac monitoring system. And we detected a P-wave in ECG signal using the complex-valued continuous wavelet transforms (CWT) according to two kinds of patch type electrodes such as an existing narrow patch type electrode and the improved wide patch type electrode presented in this paper. Also, we compared the characteristics in detecting the P-wave in terms of the magnitude and the width of P-waves. From the results of comparison we found that the width and the magnitude of P-wave detected using the wide patch type electrode is improved to be interpreted easier compared to those using the narrow patch type electrode. Furthermore, we have also proven that the complex-valued CWT can be used as a robust detector for P-wave in ECG signal analysis.

  • The detection of pulmonary blood vessels is very difficult owing to their complex tree structures and different widths. In this paper, We propose a new detection algorithm. The motivation of this algorithm is that Han is the best detector. So, this algorithm is developed to imitate the human searching process. To realize it, the algorithm consist of two components. One is Pyramid Images whose one pixel is median value of four pixels of the previous low level. Searching gradually from high level to low level, We concentrate on global and main information of structure at the first. Then based on it, We search the detailed data in low level. The other is fuzzy logic which makes it easy to convert searching process expressed as human language into numeric multi_value. This algorithm showes speedy and robust results. But the more study on both human searching process and the detection of small part is needed.

  • Accompanied by the rapid development of Computer Vision, Visual surveillance has achieved great evolution with more and more complicated processing. However there are still many problems to be resolved for robust and reliable visual surveillance, and the cast shadow occurring in motion detection process is one of them. Shadow pixels are often misclassified as object pixels so that they cause errors in localization, segmentation, tracking and classification of objects. This paper proposes a novel cast shadow removal method. As opposed to previous conventional methods, which considers pixel properties like intensity properties, color distortion, HSV color system, and etc., the proposed method utilizes observations about edge patterns in the shadow region in the current frame and the corresponding region in the background scene, and applies Laplacian edge detector to the blob regions in the current frame and the background scene. Then, the product of the outcomes of application determines whether the blob pixels in the foreground mask comes from object blob regions or shadow regions. The proposed method is simple but turns out practically very effective for Gaussian Mixture Model, which is verified through experiments.

  • 음성인식 시스템과 입술독해 시스템을 결합한 하여 음향학적 잡음에 대하여 안정된 성능을 갖는 바이모달(bimodal) 시스템을 구현한다. 바이모달 시스템의 성능은 두 인식 시스템의 성능뿐만 아니라 입력 신호의 끝점검출 성능에도 크게 영향을 받는다. 본 논문에서는 음성신호와 영상신호에서 끝점을 자각 자동 검출하여 입력 음성신호로부터 음성신호에서 추정한 신호대잡음비(signal-to-noise ratio: SNR)로 두 끝점검출 결과를 선택하는 방법을 제안한다. 즉 낮은 SNR에서는 영상신호로부터 검출된 끝점을 선택하고 높은 SNR에서는 음성신호로부터 검출된 끝점을 선택함으로써 음향학적 잡음에 대하여 견실하게 끝점을 검출한다. 제안한 끝점검출 방법이 적용된 바이모달 시스템이 강한 음향학적 잡음에 대하여 만족스러운 인식성능을 나타냄을 실험견과에서 확인할 수 있다.
