When designing a controller, a motor can have robust and precise control performance only by considering the error of the motor's mathematical model and the disturbance acting on it. For robust and precise control, the mechanical and electrical disturbance observers were designed to estimate the disturbance, and applied to the speed controller and current controller designed as a nominal system. To confirm the control performance of the designed system, it is applied to a 120 [W] class BLDC motor, and the result of the speed tracking control overcomes disturbances, the steady state error converges to zero, and the asymptotically stable result can be confirmed.

This paper presents a novel approach for controlling electrically driven robot manipulators based on voltage control. The voltage-based control is preferred comparing to torque-based control. This approach is robust in the presence of manipulator uncertainties since it is free of the manipulator model. The control law is very simple, fast response, efficient, robust, and can be used for high-speed tracking purposes. The feedback linearization is applied on the electrical equations of the dc motors to cancel the current terms which transfer all manipulator dynamics to the electrical circuit of motor. The control system is simulated for position control of the PUMA 560 robot driven by permanent magnet dc motors.

In this paper, a robust controller for PWM converter is proposed. The proposde converter controller consists of a PI controller for DC output voltage and a current controller using error-space approach for maintaining the sinusoidal current waveform and unity power factor. Conventionally, the try and error method has been used to design the current controller considering the switching frequency of the devices and sampling frequency of the digital controller. But this proposed method is based on characteristic ratio assignment(CRA) method which has the advantage to design the optimal gain to meet the referenced response and overshoot within the limit range. First, the CRA based current controller algorithm is explained. Then the validity of proposed controller is verified through the PSiM simulation and experience results.

A new control method for precision robust position control of a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) using asymptotically stable adaptive load torque observer is presented in the paper. Precision position control is obtained for the PMSM system approximately linearized using the field-orientation method. Recently, many of these drive systems use the PMSM to avoid backlashes. However, the disadvantages of the motor are high cost and complex control because of nonlinear characteristics. Also, the load torque disturbance directly affects the motor shaft. The application of the load torque observer is published in [1] using fixed gain. However, the motor flux linkage is not exactly known for a load torque observer. There is the problem of uncertainty to obtain very high precision position control. Therefore, a model reference adaptive observer is considered to overcome the problem of unknown parameter and torque disturbance in this paper. The system stability analysis is carried out using Lyapunov stability theorem. As a result, asymptotically stable observer gain can be obtained without affecting the overall system response. The load disturbance detected by the asymptotically stable adaptive observer is compensated by feedforwarding the equivalent current which gives fast response. The experimental results are presented in the paper using DSP TMS320c31.
This paper proposed a novel current control strategy on active power filters using p-q-r instantaneous power theory which can compensate the line current harmonics and the neutral line current in unbalanced and/or distorted source conditions in three-phase four-wire systems. The proposed current control method is based on a sinusoidal PWM for fully-digital implementation which was compared with a hysteresis PWM. Simulation results showed good performance of the proposed current control strategy on shunt type APFs.
Mechanical shim is an advanced technology for reactor power and axial offset control with control rod assemblies. To address the adverse accuracy impact on the ex-core power range neutron flux measurements-based axial offset control resulting from the variable positions of control rod assemblies, the lead-lag-compensated in-core self-powered vanadium detector signals are utilized. The prompt ${\gamma}$ current of self-powered detector is ignored normally due to its weakness compared with the delayed ${\beta}$ current, although it promptly reflects the flux change of the core. Based on the features of the prompt ${\gamma}$ current, a method for configuration of the lead-lag dynamic compensator is proposed. The simulations indicate that the method can improve dynamic response significantly with negligible adverse effects on the steady response. The robustness of the design implies that the method is of great value for engineering applications.

The voltage-source inverters (VSI) supplying a motor drive are prone to open transistor faults. To address this issue in fault-tolerant drives applicable to electric vehicles, a new open transistor fault diagnosis (FD) method is presented in this paper. According to the proposed method, in order to define the FD index, the phase angle of the converter output current is estimated by a simple trigonometric function. The proposed FD method is adaptable, simple, capable of detecting multiple open switch faults and robust to load operational variations. Keeping the FD in mind as a mandatory part of the fault tolerant control algorithm, the FD block is applied to a five-phase converter supplying a multiphase fault-tolerant PM motor drive with non-sinusoidal unbalanced current waveforms. To investigate the performance of the FD technique, the fault-tolerant sliding mode control (SMC) of a five-phase brushless direct current (BLDC) motor is developed in this paper with the embedded FD block. Once the theory is explained, experimental waveforms are obtained from a five-phase BLDC motor to show the effectiveness of the proposed FD method. The FD algorithm is implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA).

This paper deals with the implementation of a robust multivariable controller using DSP board and the application to real systems. The LQG/LTR (Linear Quadratic Gaussian with Loop Transfer Recovery) controller proposed by Doyle et al.[1,2] is adopted to design the control system. A helicopter propeller setup is taken as the controlled system in the current paper, and the mathematical model is derived to design the multivariable controller. The performance of the controller is evaluated via simulations, and implementation and application to the MIMO system shows that the control performances are satisfactory and superior to those of the PID controller.
In this paper, control schemes are developed for a propulsion system(Converter/Inverter) in electrical train. A robust controller for PWM converter is proposed. The converter controller consists of a PI controller for DC output voltage and a current controller using error-space approach for maintaining the sinusoidal current waveform and unity power factor. This proposed method is based on characteristic ratio assignment(CRA) method which has the advantage to design the optimal gain to meet the referenced response and overshoot within the limit range. Inverter system is controlled by vector control and slip frequency control. At low speed region, vector control scheme is applied to control instantaneous torque and slip frequency control is performed under overmodulation region and one pulse mode. Because output voltage of converter contains harmonics ripple at twice input ac line frequency, control scheme is developed to reduce the pulsating torque current. The performance of propulsion system will be verified by simulation and prototype experimental results.

High speed elevator requires precise drive included in zero speed at start/stop drive for the high stability and controllability. The vector control techniques, which have been used for the precise operation of induction motor, can be divided into two classes; The indirect vector control by slip frequency and the direct vector control by field orientation. The existing direct vector control technique has a robustness against the change of motor parameter and the existing indirect vector control technique has a strength of control ability in the wide speed range comparatively. This study presents the DTIF (Direct Torque Indirect Flux) controller which has robust movement in the transition state and in about zero and low speed using the control technique in which torque is controlled by the direct vector technique and flux is controled by indirect vector technique. The proposed system is verified by simulation and experiment for driving 3 phase induction motor. The process of transition which is from about zero speed and low speed to high speed is compared and measured to specification of phase voltage, phase current and DC link current. It is verified that DTIF controller show robust and stable speed variation.
