  • In this paper, a new user interface for unmanned combat vehicle(UCV) is developed based on the mission planning and global path planning. In order to complete a tactical mission given to an UCV, it is essential to design an effective interface scheme between human and UCV considering changing combat environment and characteristics of the mission. The user interface is mainly composed of two parts, mission planning and global path planning, since they are important factors to accomplish combat missions. First of all, mission types of UCV are identified. Based on mission types, the concept of mission planning for UCVs is presented. Then a new method for global path planning is devised. It is capable of dealing with multiple grid maps to consider various combat factors so that paths suitable for the mission be generated. By combining these two, a user interface method is suggested. It is partially implemented in the Dog-horse Robot of ADD and its effectiveness is verified.

  • In this paper, path generation using the sensor platform is proposed. The sensor platform is composed two electric motors which make panning and tilting motions. An algorithm fur a real path form and an obstacle length is realized using a scanning algorithm to rotating the sensors on the sensor platform. An ARV (Autonomous Robot Vehicle) is able to recognize the given path by adapting this algorithm. In order for the ARV to navigate the path flexibly, a kinematic model needed to be constructed. The kinematic model of the ARV was reformed around its body center through a relative velocity relationship to controllability, which derives from the nonholonomic characteristics. The optimal controller that is based on tile kinematic model is operated purposefully to track a reference vehicle's path. The path generation algorithm is composed of two parks. On e part is the generating path pattern, and the other is used to avoid an obstacle. The optimal controller is used for tracking the reference path which is generated by recognizing the path pattern. Results of simulation show that this algorithm for an ARV is sufficient for path generation by small number of sensors and for low cost controller.

  • In this study, we focused on developing and verifying ship collision avoidance algorithms using Unity simulator and ROS(Robot Operating System). ROS is used to establish an environment where communication between different operating systems is possible, and a dynamic model of a ship is constructed within Unity simulator. The Lidar data collected in Unity environment is passed to the system based on python through ROS. In the system based on python, control command values were created through the logic of the collision avoidance algorithm using data, and the values were transferred back to Unity to control the movement of the virtual ship. Through the developed simulation system, the reliability of the collision avoidance algorithm of ships with two different forms in an environment similar to the actual physical world was confirmed. As a result, it was confirmed on the simulator that it could be avoided without collision even in an environment with various types of obstacles, and that the avoidance characteristics according to the dynamics of the ship could be analyzed.

  • Water covers two-thirds of the earth and has a great influence on the future existence of all human being. Thailand has extensive coastline and near shore water that contain vast biological and mineralogical resources. The rivers and canals can be found around the country especially in the Bangkok, which once called the Venice of the East. Autonomous underwater robot (AUR) will be soon a tool to help us better understand water resources and other environmental issues. This paper presents the design and basic control of a six-degree of freedom AUR "Chalawan", which was constructed to be used as a testbed for shallow. It is a simple low cost open-frame design, which can be modified easily to supports various research areas in the underwater environment. It was tested with a conventional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller. After fine-tuning of the controller gains, the results showed the controller's good performances. In the future, the dynamic model of the robot will be analyzed and identified. The advanced control algorithm will be implemented based on the obtained model.

  • The demand for the stable and comfortable cabin of a high speed passenger ship is increasing. The study on shipboard comfort has been mainly concentrated on the motion control of a whole hull body. In this study, however, a new control system operated by two parallel robots (3RPS, 3SPR) such as the active suspension system of motor vehicle is proposed. The goal of this control is keeping zero velocity of the upper robot (cabin) although the lower robot (ship) is moving by the waves. Jacobian matrix was used to design the controller, From the simulation results, the remarkable reduction of motion of the cabin (upper platform) was observed. The 3SPR parallel robot shows better performance compared to the 3RPS robot.

  • This paper describes a methodology of mobile robot navigation which is designed to carry heavy payloads at high speeds to be used in FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System) without human control. Intelligent control scheme using fuzzy logic is applied to the navigation control. It analyzes sensor readings from multi-sensor system, which is composed of ultrasonic sensors, infrared sensors and odometer, for environment learning, planning, landmark detecting and system control. And it is implemented on a physical robot, AGV(Autonomous Guided Vehicle) which is a two-wheeled, indoor robot. An on-board control software is composed of two subsystems, i.e., AGV control subsystem and Sensor control subsystem. The results show that the navigation of the AGV is robust and flexible, and a real-time control is possible.

  • The vector field histogram(VFH) uses a two-dimensional Cartesian histogram grid as a world model. The VFH method subsequently employs a two-stage data-reduction process in order to compute the desired control commands for the vehicle. In the first stage the histogram grid is reduced to a one dimensional polar histogram that is constructed around the robot's momentary location. Each sector in the polar histogram contains a value representing the polar obstacle density in that direction. In the second stage, the algorithm selects the most suitable sector from among all polar histogram sectors with a low polar obstacle density, and the steering of the robot is aligned with that direction. We applied this algorithm to our four-legged robot.

  • A robust motion controller based on self-organizing fuzzy control(SOFC) and feed-back tracking control technique is proposed for a two-wheel driven mobile robot. The feed-back control technique of the controller guarantees the robot follows a desired trajectory. The SOFC technique of the controller deals with unmodelled dynamics of the vehicle and uncertainties. The computer simulations are carried out to verify the tracking ability of the proposed controller with various driving situations. The results of the simulations reveal the effectiveness and stability of the proposed controller to compensate the unmodelled dynamics and uncertainties.

  • A swarm-bot docking with two independent robots aiming at overcoming obstacles or climbing up/down stairs is introduced how it can be manufactured and controlled. Utilizing the fast mobility of the vehicle robot and cooperating between robots expands the applications of the robot. An algorithm for identifying the partner robot and its generic mechanism enabling the docking of two robots are addressed. The designed swarm-bot has advantages in terms of overcoming obstacle or stair climbing which is not easily implemented by a single robot, increasing the adaptability to the environment.
