The wireless capsule endoscopy played an important role as the evolutionary medical device to solving the difficulties such as diagnosing the intestine diseases. Due to the limited size and functions, it has some drawbacks. The most obstacle thing is the disability of self-motion, it means that it cannot provide the speed problem. Hence, the characteristics of human digestion system is briefly introduced, especially the intestine, to get the information of endoscopy dynamics. Next, in order to make an abstraction of the condition, a new dynamic friction model called LuGre model is introduced and clearly analysed to get the characteristics and the usage of the model. By the consideration of parameters that are tightly related with the real situation of the capsule endoscopy. The Matlab Simulink was applied to build the model and verified by the simulation to discover the features.

It is difficult to construct a controller for a mobile robot so that it can adapt appropriately in dynamicallychanging environment. To solve this problem, extensive research has been actively performedto construct a controller by evolutionary method, but few results has come out about the behavioraln~echanism of the evolutionarily constructed controller. This paper attemps to systematically analyze themechanism of the controller constructed by evolution. As a result, we have found that evolution canproduce a controller that can solve a given problem properly, where given problem is divided into severalsub problems and adequate mechanisms emerge for each sub problem. The whole problem hasbeen solved through the complicated interactions of these mechanisms.
Biopsy is a type of histopathological examinations, in which a physician samples cells or tissues from a patient's suspicious lesion. Such a lesion frequently resides deep inside human body, and then a percutaneous biopsy is therefore performed using a thick needle with the assistance of medical imaging such as computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). Recently modern robotic technology is being introduced to percutaneous biopsy in order to reduce any possible human error and hazard on physicians caused by medical imaging. After medical imaging locates the exact location of lesion, an optimization algorithm plans the path for a biopsy needle. Subsequently, a robot system moves the biopsy needle to the lesion in accurate and safe way with the control of a practitioner or automatically. In this article, we try to look into the state-of-art of percutaneous biopsy using such robotic technology. We classified percutaneous biopsy robots by mechanical characteristics and by imaging technology. Then, advantage and disadvantage of each class type are described as well as the basic description, and a few representative designs for each type are introduced. Current research issues of robotized percutaneous biopsy are subjectively selected for the readers' convenience. We emphasize the basic technology of actuator and sensors compatible with imaging technology to conclude this review.
In this paper, we present a novel approach for the structure of Fuzzy Neural Network(FNN) based on wavelet function and apply this network structure to the solution of the tracking problem for mobile robots. Generally, the wavelet fuzzy model(WFM) has the advantage of the wavelet transform by constituting fuzzy basis function(FBF) and the conclusion part to equalize the linear combination of FBF with the linear combination of wavelet functions. However, it is very difficult to identify the fuzzy rules and to tune the membership functions of the fuzzy reasoning mechanism. Neural networks, on the other hand, utilize their learning capability for automatic identification and tuning. Therefore, we design a wavelet based FNN structure(WFNN) that merges these advantages of neural network, fuzzy model and wavelet. To verify the efficiency of our network structure, we evaluate the tracking performance for mobile robot and compare it with those of the FNN and the WFM.
Path planning is an important task for optimal motion of a robot in structured or unstructured environment. The goal of this paper is to plan the optimal collision-free path in 3D, when a robot is navigated to pick up some tools or to repair some parts from various locations. To accomplish the goal, the Path Coordinator is proposed to have the capabilities of an obstacle avoidance strategy and a traveling salesman problem strategy (TSP). The obstacle avoidance strategy is to plan the shortest collision-free path between each pair of n locations in 2D or in 3D. The TSP strategy is to compute a minimal system cost of a tour that is defined as a closed path navigating each location exactly once. The TSP strategy can be implemented by the Hopfield Network. The obstacle avoidance strategy in 2D can be implemented by the VGraph Algorithm. However, the VGraph Algorithm is not useful in 3D, because it can't compute the global optimality in 3D. Thus, the Path Coordinator is used to solve this problem, having the capabilities of selecting the optimal edges by the modified Genetic Algorithm and computing the optimal nodes along the optimal edges by the Recursive Compensation Algorithm.
In this paper, we present visual sensing techniques that can be used to teach a robot using a laser pointer. The light spot of an off-the-shelf laser pointer is detected and its movement is tracked on consecutive images of a camera. The three-dimensional position of the spot is calculated using stereo cameras. The light spot on the image is detected based on its color, brightness, and shape. The detection results in a binary image, and morphological processing steps are performed on the image to refine the detection. The movement of the laser spot is measured using two methods. The first is a simple method of specifying the region of interest (ROI) centered at the current location of the light spot and finding the spot within the ROI on the next image. It is assumed that the movement of the spot is not large on two consecutive images. The second method is using a Kalman filter, which has been widely employed in trajectory estimation problems. In our simulation study of various cases, Kalman filtering shows better results mostly. However, there is a problem of fitting the system model of the filter to the pattern of the spot movement.
This research is the development of a skin-type tactile sensor for service robot using PVDF film for the detection of the contact state. The Prototype of the tactile sensor which has 8$\times$8 taxels was fabricated using PVDF film In the fabrication procedure of the sensor, the electrode patterns and common electrode of the thin conductive tape were attached to the both side of the 28 micro meter thickness PVDF film using conductive adhesive. The sensor was covered with polyester film for insulation and attached to the rubber base for making stable structure. The signals of a contact pressure to the tactile sensor were sensed and processed in the DSP system in which the signals were digitized and filtered. Finally, the signals were integrated for taking the force profile. The processed signals of the output of the sensor were visualized in PC, the shape and force distribution of the contact object were obtained. The reasonable performance for the detection of contact state was verified through the experiment.

This paper presents a new dynamic model which is represented by the second order differenatial equation and itcludes the robot arm dynamics as well as the actuator dynamics. The model exhibits excellent performance in the steady state and transient response. In addition the time varing nonlinear and coupled dynamic system has been linearized and decoupled by using nonlinear feedback and linearization method. In this case a pole assignment law is used to improve stability, and the optimal control altorithm is applied to the error equation to minimize the path error. In applying the proposed algorithm to the three joint manipulator with actuators, we obtained very encouraging results.
Effective tools which can alleviate the complexity and computational load problem in collision-free motion planning for multi-agent system have steadily been demanded in robotics field. To reduce the complexity, the extended collision map (ECM) which adopts decoupled approach and prioritization is already proposed. In ECM, the collision regions which represent the potential collision of robots are calculated using the computational power; the complexity problem is not resolved completely. In this paper, we propose a mathematical analysis of the extended collision map; as a result, we formulate the collision region as an equation with 5-8 variables. For mathematical analysis, we introduce realistic assumptions as follows; the path of each robot can be approximated to a straight line or an arc and every robot moves with uniform velocity or constant acceleration near the intersection between paths. Our result reduces the computational complexity in comparison with the previous result without losing optimality, because we use simple but exact equations of the collision regions. This result can be widely applicable to coordinated multi-agent motion planning.
Unmanned military vehicles (UMVs) will be increasingly applied to the various military operations. These UMVs are most commonly characterized as dealing with "4D" task - dull, dirty, dangerous and difficult with automations. Although most of the UMVs are designed to a high degree of autonomy, the human operator will still intervene in the robots operation, and tele-operate them to achieve his or her mission. Thus, operator capacity, along with robot autonomy and user interface, is one of the important design factors in the research and development of the UMVs. In this paper, we propose the method to assess the operator capacity of the UMVs. The method is comprised of the 6 steps (problem, assumption, goal function identification, operator task analysis, task modeling & simulation, results and assessment), and herein colored Petri-nets are used for the modeling and simulation. Further, an illustrative example is described at the end of this paper.
