Laser distance meter and x-y robot employed in the extraction of three dimensional image recognition of muskmelon net and recognized the characteristics of that. All data measured transmitted to the PC/AT in the computer room and programmed with Visual Basic(Microsoft). Alteration of the concentration and application time of nutrient solution modified the net height and width of hydroponically grown muskmelon. Net height and width which are the characteristics of muskmelon depended on the concentration of nutrient solution used. Decreasing with the concentration of nutrient solution lowered the occupying ratio of net and also observed the tendency of widening of muskmelon net.

High precision of planning in the preoperative phase can contribute to increase operational safety during computer-aided spinal fusion surgery, which requires extreme caution on the part of the surgeon, due to the complexity and delicacy of the procedure. In this paper, an advanced preoperative planning framework for spinal fusion is presented. The framework is based on spinal pedicle data obtained from CT (Computed Tomography) images, and provides optimal insertion trajectories and pedicle screw sizes. The proposed approach begins with safety margin estimation for each potential insertion trajectory that passes through the pedicle volume, followed by procedures to collect a set of insertion trajectories that satisfy operation safety objectives. The radius of a pedicle screw was chosen as 70% of the pedicle radius. This framework has been tested on 68 spinal pedicles of 8 patients requiring spinal fusion. It was successfully applied, resulting in an average success rate of 100% and a final safety margin of $2.44{\pm}0.51mm$.

We discuss development of a simulator for automated manufacturing systems (AMSs) which have sophisticated automated material handling equipments and complicated work flows. The simulator is designed to satisfy the following requirements. A user should be able to easily configure or specify an AMS through a graphical user interface (GUI) and minimal data input. The user should be able to model diverse and complied control logic for automated material handling systems like automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems, robot workcell systems and conveyor systems as well as complicated job flow program. Real time animation is desired. Finally, the simulator should be easily maintained and extended. To satisfy the requirements, we use an object-oriented paradigm for modeling, designing, and programming of the simulator. We use an object-oriented modeling framework to design the modeling elements library, and take the process interaction approach for scheduling processes and events. To model a user-defined diverse control logic, we also develop a script language and its interpreter. We explain design and implementation strategies. We implement the simulator using Visual C++ 4.2 and Open GL on Windows NT and the Windows95. Some modeling examples will be demonstrated.

This paper proposes a novel three-dimensional mapping algorithm in Omni-Directional Vision SLAM based on a fisheye image and laser scanner data. The performance of SLAM has been improved by various estimation methods, sensors with multiple functions, or sensor fusion. Conventional 3D SLAM approaches which mainly employed RGB-D cameras to obtain depth information are not suitable for mobile robot applications because RGB-D camera system with multiple cameras have a greater size and slow processing time for the calculation of the depth information for omni-directional images. In this paper, we used a fisheye camera installed facing downwards and a two-dimensional laser scanner separate from the camera at a constant distance. We calculated fusion points from the plane coordinates of obstacles obtained by the information of the two-dimensional laser scanner and the outline of obstacles obtained by the omni-directional image sensor that can acquire surround view at the same time. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed through comparison between maps obtained using the proposed algorithm and real maps.

In this paper, we first intend to develop and introduce a smart laundry drying system for verandas that controls the drying rack by actively responding to climate change. The developed smart laundry drying system receives laundry location information through the app, then detects climate change in real time through data from the Korea Meteorological Administration such as temperature and humidity according to the location information, and automatically controls the laundry on the drying rack in case of rain. It acquires weather information through the Arduino humidity sensor and the Korea Meteorological Administration Open-API, which is used to control the switch bot by the Raspberry Pi. The user interface uses Blynk, and the switch bot controls the laundry. Our proposed system can detect bad weather and automatically control the laundry at a remote location to prevent damage to the laundry.
Smart hospitals involve the use of recent ICT (information and communications technology) technologies to improve healthcare access, efficiency, and effectiveness. Standardization in smart hospital technologies is crucial for interoperability, scalability, policy formulation, quality control, and maintenance. This study reviewed relevant international standards for smart hospitals and the organizations that develop them. Specific attention was paid to robotics in smart hospitals and the potential for standardization in this area. The study used online resources and existing standards to analyze technologies, standards, and practices in smart hospitals. Key technologies of smart hospitals were identified. Relevant standards from ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) were mapped to each core technology. Korea's leadership in smart hospital technology were highlighted. Approaches for standardizing smart hospitals were proposed. Finally, potential new international standard items for robotics in smart hospitals were identified and categorized by function: sampling, remote operation, delivery, disinfection, and movement tracking/contact tracing. Standardization in smart hospital technologies is crucial for ensuring interoperability, scalability, ethical use of artificial intelligence, and quality control. Implementing international standards in smart hospitals is expected to benefit individuals, healthcare institutions, nations, and industry by improving healthcare access, quality, and competitiveness.

Brain-computer interface (BCI) is being studied for convenient life in various application fields. The purpose of this study is to investigate a changing electroencephalography (EEG) for precise motion of a robot or an artificial arm. Three subjects who participated in this experiment performed three-task: Grip, Move, Relax. Acquired EEG data was extracted feature data using two feature extraction algorithm (power spectrum analysis and multi-common spatial pattern). Support vector machine (SVM) were applied the extracted feature data for classification. The classification accuracy was the highest at Grip class of two subjects. The results of this research are expected to be useful for patients required prosthetic limb using EEG.

In this paper, a prototype tele-operative system with a mobile base was developed in order to automate cultivation of house melon. A man-machine interactive hybrid decision-making system via tele-operative task interface was proposed to overcome limitations of computer image recognition. Identifying house melon including position data from the field image was critical to automate cultivation. And it was not simple especially when melon is covered partly by leaves and stems. The developed system was composed of 5 major modules: (a) main remote monitoring and task control module, (b) wireless remote image acquisition and data transmission module, (c) three-wheel mobile base mounted with a 4 dof articulated type robot manipulator (d) exchangeable modular type end tools, and (e) melon storage module. The system was operated through the graphic user interface using touch screen monitor and wireless data communication among operator, computer, and machine. Once task was selected from the task control and monitoring module, the analog signal of the color image of the field was captured and transmitted to the host computer using R.F. module by wireless. A sequence of algorithms to identify location and size of a melon was performed based on the local image processing. Laboratory experiment showed the developed prototype system showed the practical feasibility of automating various cultivating tasks of house melon.

In this paper, we develop Linguistic Model (LM) based on information granules as a systematic approach to generating fuzzy if-then rules from a given input-output data. The LM introduced by Pedrycz is performed by fuzzy information granulation obtained from Context-based Fuzzy Clustering(CFC). This clustering estimates clusters by preserving the homogeneity of the clustered patterns associated with the input and output data. Although the effectiveness of LM has been demonstrated in the previous works, it needs to improve in the sense of performance. Therefore, we focus on the automatic generation of linguistic contexts, addition of bias term, and the transformed form of consequent parameter to improve both approximation and generalization capability of the conventional LM. The experimental results revealed that the improved LM yielded a better performance in comparison with LM and the conventional works for automobile MPG(miles per gallon) predication and Boston housing data.
