Latest advances in hardware technology and state of the art of mobile robot and artificial intelligence research can be employed to develop autonomous and distributed monitoring systems. And mobile service robot requires the perception of its present position to coexist with humans and support humans effectively in populated environments. To realize these abilities, robot needs to keep track of relevant changes in the environment. This paper proposes a localization of mobile robot using the images by distributed intelligent networked devices (DINDs) in intelligent space (ISpace) is used in order to achieve these goals. This scheme combines data from the observed position using dead-reckoning sensors and the estimated position using images of moving object, such as those of a walking human, used to determine the moving location of a mobile robot. The moving object is assumed to be a point-object and projected onto an image plane to form a geometrical constraint equation that provides position data of the object based on the kinematics of the intelligent space. Using the a priori known path of a moving object and a perspective camera model, the geometric constraint equations that represent the relation between image frame coordinates of a moving object and the estimated position of the robot are derived. The proposed method utilizes the error between the observed and estimated image coordinates to localize the mobile robot, and the Kalman filtering scheme is used to estimate the location of moving robot. The proposed approach is applied for a mobile robot in ISpace to show the reduction of uncertainty in the determining of the location of the mobile robot. Its performance is verified by computer simulation and experiment.
To automate the polishing process, a polishing robot with two axes which is attached to a machining center with three axes has been developed by our previous research. This automatic polishing robot is able to keep the polishing tool normal to the curved surface of die and is able to maintain a constant pneumatic pressure. Therefore, in the case of a curved surface die, the surface roughness to be polished by the system with five axes is improved superior than the surface by a three-axis machining center. However, because the polishing robot was big and heavy, a polishing workspace was limited and then it was difficult to attach the robot to machining center. In this study, the smaller and lighter polishing robot than the previous has been designed to improve defects due to the magnitude and weight of the robot. And the sliding mode control ins applied to polishing robot to improve the tracking performance. To obtain switching parameters of sliding mode control, the signal compression method is used. Code separation program to separate the date for a three-axis machining center and a two-axis polishing robot from a five-axis NC data is improved for users to check conveniently the separated trajectory and to handle many data by using the graphic user interface. To evaluate the polishing performance of the developed robot, the polishing experiment for shadow mask was carried out. The result shows the automatic polishing robot has a good trajectory tracking performance and obtains a good polished workpiece efficiently under recommended polishing conditions.
This paper proposes a new method of sensor fusion of an ultrasonic sensor and a vision sensor at the sensor level. In general vision system, the vision system finds edges of objects. And in general ultrasonic system, the ultrasonic system finds absolute distance between robot and object. So, the method integrates data of two different types. The system makes perfect output for robot control in the end. But this paper does not propose only integrating a different kind of data but also fusion information which receives from different kind of sensors. This method has advantages which can simply embody algorithm and can control robot on real time.
Machining is a bottleneck in robot application technologies because of uncertainty of position/form, poor reliability of robot function and low reaction speed of robot to changes of surroundings, But in grinding automation with relatively low machining speed it is feasible to integrate of sensor signal in machining. In this paper strategy for robotic grinding with F/T sensor will be presented and with that the experimental results will be discussed. F/T sensor signal in grinding of strategy weld seam are transferred to PC, which plays a role as cell computer and transform F/T data to robot position and/or orientation, speed correction data according to programmed algorithm. The possibility and boundary of robotic grinding with F/T sensor intergration is discussed.
This paper presents a design experience of a control language for coordination of a multi-robot system. To effectively program job commands, a Petrinet-type Graphical Robot Language(PGRL) is proposed, where some functions, such as concurrency and synchronization, for coordination among tasks can be easily programmed. In our system, the proposed task commands of PGRL are implemented by employing formal model languages, which are composed of three modules, sensory, data handling, and action module. It is expected that by using our proposed PGRL and formal languages, one can easily describe a job or task, and hence can effectively operate a complex real-time and concurrent system. The control system is being implemented by using VME-based 32-bit microprocessor boards for supervisory, each module controller(arm, hand, leg, sensor data processing module) and a real time multi-tasking operating system(VxWorks). The present study is devoted to the development of a simplified teaching method whereby the control data of the 3-dimensional operations of a playback-type trial robot can be stored in a personal computer. The control data of the 3-dimensional operations are given using an instruction wand handled by an operator. The operator's task is only to track a desired robot path with the wand. The 3-dimensional position of the wand are measured by ultrasonic devices, the principle of which was developed for this study and is introduced in detail. In order to clarify the applicability of this method, experts were performed with respect to a continuous-path teaching and a pick-and-place task teaching which are typical jobs of robot operators.
An intelligent miniature humanoid robot system is designed and implemented as a platform for researching walking algorithm. The robot system consists of a mechanical robot body, a control system, a sensor system, and a human interface system. The robot has 6 dofs per leg, 3 dofs per arm, and 2 dofs for a neck, so it has total of 20 dofs to have dexterous motion capability. For the control system, a supervisory controller runs on a remote host computer to plan high level robot actions based on the vision sensor data, a main controller implemented with a DSP chip generates walking trajectories for the robot to perform the commanded action, and an auxiliary controller implemented with an FPGA chip controls 20 actuators. The robot has three types of sensors. A two-axis acceleration sensor and eight force sensing resistors for acquiring information on walking status of the robot, and a color CCD camera for acquiring information on the surroundings. As an example of an intelligent robot action, some experiments on playing soccer are performed.
This paper proposes a balancing and driving control system for a Mecanum wheel ball robot which has a two axis structure and four motors. The inverted pendulum control method is adopted to maintain the balance of the ball robot while it is driving. For the balancing control, an anon-model-based controller has been designed to control the device simply without the need of a complex formula. All the gains of the controller are heuristically adjusted during the experiments. The tilt angle is measured by IMU sensors, which is used to generate the control input of the roll and pitch controller to make the tilt angle zero. For the driving control, the PID control algorithm has been adopted with angles of the wheels and the encoder data. The performance of the designed control system has been verified through the real experiments with the suggested ball robot.
Nowadays, CPS is used widely, especially in cases which need more precise position information, such as car navigation systems and even in the mobile robot for position measuring in the outdoor environment. RTK (Real-Time Kinematics) and DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) have more precise accuracy than the general-purposed GPS. However can't easily use them because of high prices and large size of equipments. In order fur the mobile robot to obtain precise position information it is important that CPS receiver has portability and low price. In this study, we introduce a new GPS data acquisition system that offers the precise position data using the DGPS mechanism and satisfying low cost and portability. In addition to this, we propose an improved data compensation algorithm that offers more accurate position information to the outdoor mobile robot by compensating the error rate of CPS data measured from the three points with geometrical rotation and distance formula. Proposed method is verified by comparing with the precise real position data obtained by RTK. Proposed method has more than 70% performance enhancement.
In this paper, an autonomous omni directional cleaning robot which recognizes an obstacle and a battery charger is introduced. It utilizes a robot vision, ultra sonic sensors, and infrared sensors information along with appropriate algorithm. Three omni-directional wheels make the robot move any direction, enabling a faster maneuvering than a simple track typed robot. The robot system transfers command and image data through Blue-tooth wireless modules to be operated in a remote place. The robot vision associated with sensor data makes the robot proceed in an autonomous behavior. An autonomous battery charger searching is implemented by using a map-building which results in overcoming the error due to the slip on the wheels, and camera and sensor information.
