Workers who work at indoor and outdoor environment near busy road are suspected to be exposed to high-elevated air pollutant levels during working hours. This study evaluated the working-time nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$) exposure for workers (repairmen and polishers) of shoe-stalls. Since shoe-stalls have particularly been located near busy road in Korea, workers might be high exposure to $NO_2$ from traffic exhaust as well as indoor sources of shoe-stall such as portable gas range (butane gas) during working hours. In this study, we measured the indoor and outdoor $NO_2$ concentrations of shoe-stalls. Simultaneously, outdoor $NO_2$ concentrations of building through sidewalk from shoe-stall were measured. High $NO_2$ exposure for workers of shoe-stalls was considered to be inflow of outdoor source of exhausted emission from vehicles and indoor source from usage of gas range to polish the shoe. Indoor/outdoor $NO_2$ concentration ratio ($0.94{\pm}0.22$) in Seoul was higher than that ($1.06{\pm}0.34$) in Asan, because ambient $NO_2$ level was high in Seoul and usage of gas range was prevalent in Asan. According to $NO_2$ concentrations by distance from roadside to building through sidewalk, $NO_2$ concentrations showed the decreased trend with distance. The results of this study can be utilized by municipal authorities in urban planning for evaluating effects of future traffic planning and land use.
This study was conducted to examine the effects of constructing streetside urban forests on particulate matter (PM) content in pedestrian paths and open spaces created between the main streets and buildings in a high-rise, high-density urban area. The study site is a 70m-wide open space between Busan City Hall and Jungang-street in Busan, Korea. The results showed that the density of PM differences between the open space and the adjacent main street were small in regions without linear trees and shrub rows during both the weekdays and weekend. On the other hand, the areas with linear trees and shrub rows were found to have significantly higher concentrations of PM compared to the roadway. In particular, sections with linear trees and shrub rows had higher PM levels both on roads and in adjacent open space, indicating that the composition of linear trees and shrub rows increased the concentration of PM in the off-street open space in areas with wide space between the roadway and building. The impact was more significant in the open space than the roadway. This phenomenon can be explained by the fact that PM generated by vehicles flows through the roadside shrubs by rapid wind flow but does not disperse widely in the pedestrian paths where the wind flow was reduced. In this study, we found that the roadside tree and shrub walls slowed the flow of wind, causing vehicle-emitted PM to accumulate if a wide open space was created between the road and building, resulting in higher concentration of PM in the open space. We confirmed that the distance between the road and building was a critical factor for constructing linear trees and shrub rows to reduce PM generated by vehicle traffic.
Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) pollinosis is the most popular pollinosis in Japan. It has been reported that Cryptomeria japonica pollen allergenic species are suspended as fine particles in the urban atmosphere. These allergenic fine particles are responsible for inducing asthma by breaking into the lower respiratory tract. It has also been found that pollinosis symptoms on the sufferers appear mainly at night-time by the results from epidemiological studies. However, the exact reason for these phenomena is not yet clarified. In this study, the diurnal and nocturnal behaviours of Cryptomeria japonica pollen grains and their allergenic species in the urban area of Saitama city of Kanto Plain were investigated. Airborne pollen grains and allergenic Cry j 1 concentrations in total suspended particulate matter (TSP) were investigated at two sampling sites, a heavy traffic road (roadside site) and at the balcony of the $10^{th}$ floor of the Building of Research and Project of Saitama University (general urban site). The latter sampling site where located about 300 m away from the roadside site was used as a general urban site unaffected by automobile traffic. The airborne pollen counts were measured with a real-time pollen monitor. Cry j 1 particles were collected with two high volume air samplers, and these concentrations were measured by surface plasmon resonance method with a Biacore J system. The diurnal variation of the airborne pollen counts was similar to the trends of temperature and wind speed during the day-time; whereas its tendency with wind speed trend was not observed during the night-time. Airborne pollen counts were lower with northern wind than with southern wind because the pollen comes from the mountainous areas, and the mountains in the south are closer, about half the distance to the northern mountains. It is suggested that the peaks of airborne pollen counts during night-time in the sampling site occurred by transport of pollen grains released during day-time in the mountainous forest areas, located c.a. 100 km away from the sampling site. On the roadside site the allergenic Cry j 1 concentrations were higher than at the general urban site, nevertheless pollen grains counts were lower. These results suggested that worsening of pollinosis symptoms during night-time in urban area was caused by transport of pollen grains during day-time in the mountainous forest areas. Moreover, pollen allergenic species become different morphology from pollen grain at roadside site, and the subsequent pollen grains re-suspension by automobile traffic.
The objective of this study is to investigate and evaluate that a roadside tree root intrudes sewer network systems. Two approaches were performed to assess the characteristics of tree root intrusion. First, the characteristics of tree roots that had invaded sewers were directly observed by means of closed-circuit television inspection robot. Second, the intrusion proportions of tree root into rain gutters in the sampling area were investigated. As tree species of low intrusion proportions, the results indicated that Ginkgo biloba Linn. and Acer buergerianum Miq. were 1.7% and 4.3%. On the other hand, tree species of high intrusion proportions were Metasequoia glyptostroboides Hu et Cheng, Ulmus davidiana var. japonica Nakai and Zelkova serrata Makino as 22.2%, 20.4%, and 17.6% respectively. In particular, sewers and gutters around Zelkova species should be the focus of maintenance work because of the high proportion of these trees on roadsides.

The traffic volume of Seoul is extremely high in comparison to other major cities in Korea, and the result has been harmful physical and mental exposure to pollution by Seoulites on a regular basis. The street air pollution is more important than the others, because the air pollution generated by street traffic directly impacts the health of nearby pedestrians. This problem requires urgent attention and resolution. Among the factors creating the air pollution originating from the street, is the configuration of streets, which have emerged as the most significant because it is related to air and pollutant dispersion. Therefore, this study was conducted under the assumption that street form affects the air quality. Study sites were classified by street characteristics, and air quality was analyzed in each class. Then the OSPM (Operational Street Pollution Model) was employed to simulate the relationship between street configuration and air quality of streets within the old city center and new city center in Seoul. After that this study analyzed the correlation between air pollution and the spatial configuration of urban streets (ex. street width, building height, building density, etc.) to determine their contributions to air pollution. The outcome of this study is as follows : First, the result that was derived from the correlation analysis between street configuration and air quality hewed that the air pollution of the street is influenced by the average height of building, width of the roads as well as traffic volume. On the roadside, the concentration level of $NO_2$ is mainly affected by the average height of building and the deviation of building height along the street and CO is affected by street width. The outcome of this study can be used as a basis for more sound urban design policies, and the promotion of desirable street environments for pedestrians.
Actually, prediction formula of road traffic noise for EIA(Environmental Impact Assessment) has been used that proposed by National Institute of Environmental Research in 1999. The prediction formula, however, was calculated predicted noise level according to noise level producing on first floor, then needs to correct noise level at each floor in the case of apartment building. The investigation was carried out to calculate the correction coefficient for commonly using in EIA of large scaled apartment development areas. The noised level at each floor were measured from August 2001 to March 2002 at 31 investigation points of large scaled apartment development area in national wide. Measured data were divided and treated with 4 types as 3th floor, 5th floor, 7th floor and 10th floor and then the correction coefficients of each floor were calculated using by correlation formula according to each floor.

Recently, vehicle simulators are widely used to evaluate driver s responses and driver assistance systems. It needs much effort to construct the virtual driving environment for a vehicle simulator. In this study, it is described how to make effectively the roads and the driving environment for a vehicle simulator. GIS (Geographic Information System) is used to construct the roads and the environment effectively. Because the GIS is the integrated system of geographical data, it contains useful data to make virtual driving environment. First, boundaries and centerlines of roads are extracted from the GIS. From boundaries, the road width is calculated. Using centerlines, mesh models of roads are constructed. The final graphic model of roads is constructed by mapping road images to those mesh models considering the number of lanes and the kind of surface. Data of buildings from the GIS are extracted. Each shape and height of building is determined considering the kind of building to construct the final graphic model of buildings. Then, the graphic model of roadside trees is constructed to decide their locations. Finally, the driving environment for driving simulator is constructed by converting the three graphic models with the graphic format of Direct-X and by joining the three graphic models.
After the modern age, the rapid urbanizationhad a big impact on the then architecture. R. Venturi and A. Rossi are two of the leading architects, developing architecture in cities in the US and Europe respectively. This study shed light on a tangible and intangible meaning and interpretation of urban landscapes through their architectural thoughts and architectures. The followings are the physical and intangible meaning and interpretation in architectural thoughts and works of those two architects. Venturi understood that iconological landscapes at the roadside in large citiesare the nature of physical landscapes. To Venturi, the façades of buildings at the roadside are a part of signage such as traffic lights and road signs, and those façades have the meaning of symbolic systems beyond simple physical landscapes. To A. Rossi, types of buildings as physical townscapes are a key role supporting raw data of classification in architecture. And also, those types have significance of the basic data shedding light on the principles and history of cities. For intangible factors in R. Venturi's architecture, daily routine, function and use, time, a use for a building and others form complex architecture. And also, those factors describe shared values of the same period as the façades of buildings and complex symbols and formative lexicons in metaphorical terms. For A. Rossi's intangible factors, 'collective memory' is buried in inhabitants of the city, and with that, the city is a place for memory to its inhabitants. What is more, cities' monuments have intangible landscapes like 'sustainability', 'permanence' and so on. With lots of events happening throughoutcities, those monuments are the whole images of cities giving the value to the urban buildings that reside in cities. Finally, R. Venturi's all-encompassing complex architecture concept was extended on a tangible and intangible point of townscapes. It was found that A. Rossi's tangible thought was formed from the whole landscape of historic cities in then Italy as the background of time and place. Also, With types of urban buildings and 'collective memory', A. Rossi drew architectural norms and formats of unchangeable types.
Cityschumers experience the urban with the visual perception while walking an average speed of 4km per hour. At this time, recognition of the color field accounts for more than 70%. Therefore, in this paper the environmental color of urban street is examined by dividing the pedestrian visual field area. In the urban street, the area of the visual field area of the pedestrian is divided into Ground Plane, Roadside, Canopy and Building Wall. In addition, we observe and color survey the environmental color of Exhibition Road, which is the northern side space of South Kensington in London, which adopted the world's first shared space. The color of the visual filed area was dominated as YR, GY, Y, PB. The Ground Pland was dominated by the YR. The reason for this is that the color of the floor has changed due to the shadows of surrounding architecture and facilities. Roadside was dominated in various ways such as GY, BG, PB, B and P. Canopy was mainly composed of PB, GY, etc. It was found that the material color of the lower part of the architecture was reflected. The architecture wall was affected by the reflectance and absorption rate of the transparent material. The first image that comes to mind when thinking about the urban is the street where pedestrians walk, feel and enjoy themselves. Therefore, it is suggested that various policy frameworks for managing and managing urban planning professionals may be different from the perceptions of pedestrians active in mega cities.
Recently, Lu et al. proposed an efficient conditional privacy preservation protocol, named ECPP, based on group signature scheme for generating anonymous certificates from roadside units (RSUs). However, ECPP does not provide unlinkability and traceability when multiple RSUs are compromised. In this paper, we make up for the limitations and propose a robust and efficient anonymous authentication protocol without loss of efficiency as compared with ECPP. Furthermore, in the proposed protocol, RSUs can issue multiple anonymous certificates to an OBU to alleviate system overheads for mutual authentication between OBUs and RSUs. In order to achieve these goals, we consider a universal re-encryption scheme and identity-based key establishment scheme as our building blocks. Several simulations are conducted to verify the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed protocol by comparing with those of the existing ECPP.
