  • This study analyzed a survey of residents' awareness of rivers and water spaces that reflected residents' awareness in order to establish a basic park green space plan. Through this, the perception and requirements of rivers and water spaces were analyzed and important information was provided for urban planning and environmental management. As a result of analyzing residents' neutral satisfaction with rivers and their opinions on the frequency of use, role, and purpose, it was confirmed that rivers are recognized as an important part of urban life and contain the potential for development for a better urban environment. . However, considering the dissatisfied response and the relatively low frequency of use, we came to the conclusion that better urban planning and management is needed to meet the needs of residents by improving the river environment and providing various facilities. Based on this, city managers should focus on river management and improvement by actively collecting residents' opinions. Through analysis of the causes of dissatisfied responses, measures such as improving the environment around rivers and waste management should be prepared, and a broad strategy for environmental conservation and utilization should be established by reflecting the diverse expectations and demands of residents. These ongoing efforts are expected to have a positive impact on the sustainability of the city and improvement of residents' quality of life. Additionally, the results of this study will be able to contribute to establishing policies for urban planning and environmental improvement through similar research and analysis in other regions.

  • The Four Major Rivers Restoration Project of is the multi-purpose green growth project in South Korea. Some of the project was progressed by K-water and was declared complete on October 21, 2011. The Four Rivers Restoration Project of Korea was designed to be a packaged project that aims to resolve water-related problems such as floods and droughts and revitalize Korean public spaces near the water. K-water have applied the latest ICT(Information and Communication Technology) for the operating management of 4 Rivers Project facilities. We also have applied ICT for integrating drinking water production facilities. Applying these ICT, we have many experience for integrated water resources management, so we proposed. The first is that the big data collected should be analyzed for making decisions and taking actions while considering multiple viewpoints of how water should be managed. The second is that the new MMI(Man Machine Interface) program should be developed to use domestic needs and promote ease of maintenance for the integrated operation. The third is that the standardization of communication protocol is needed for seamless communication between equipments.

  • The purpose of this research was to establish a green-networks from the perfective of landscape ecology in order to improve the function of urban green spaces. The study site was Dalsu-Gu in Daegu City. This research consisted of three phases. In the first phase, field surveys were carried out in order to understand existing distribution pattern of green spaces in the study site. 533 green spaces surveyed in the first phase were classified into 7 patterns and 24 types. The total area of the green spaces in Dalsu-gu was 3,329ha. Specifically the area of the 'urban nature parks' type was 57.49% of the total area of green spaces in Dalsu-gu, and it was expected that 'urban nature parks' type can play important roles in the green-networks in Dalsu-gu. Two analysis with green spaces in 9 types including 'urban nature parks', 'rivers' and 'neighborhood parks' were performed to establish a basic network frame of the green-networks. In the second phase, 'mutual connectivity analysis' and 'mutual matrix analysis' were performed to select core green spaces of a green-networks using 'areas of each green space and a distance between each space' and 'a rate of green spaces and a rate of water permeable pavement'. The results of the second phase indicated that, in mutual connectivity analysis, large green spaces apart from each other were evaluated as having higher mutual connectivity than small green spaces near to each other. In mutual matrix analysis, the green spaces with higher mutual connectivity and the small green spaces near to each other were evaluated as having better mutual matrix. In the last phase, we structured a basic frame of the green-networks in Dalsu-Gu. The results suggested that the basic frame of the green-networks in Dalsu-Gu was composed on four green-network axes and its shape mirrored a cruciform(+) of northwest${\longleftrightarrow}$southeast directions and southwest${\longleftrightarrow}$northeast directions, The Duryu neighborhood park is at the central point of this green-networks.

  • Taegu is notorious as hot and dry summer among Korea cities. One of the most important goals of the open space planning is to ameliorate urban climate of the city. The objective of this research is to evaluate the thermal mitigation effect of the cool islands in Taegu metropolitan city. Cool islands of this paper includes parks and rivers surrounded by or adjacent to urbanized areas. Based on the analysis of the thermal band of Landsat TM at May 17, 1997, the thermal mitigation effect of open spaces in the city could be summarized as follows ; Kumho river showed the largest mitigation effect in terms of the width of mitigation zone and temperature difference. Evaporation from wide water surface and evapo-transpiration from riparian grass land could bring into results. Significant mitigation effect of parks covered with forest can be observed. The temperature range of such parks were between 19.05$^{\circ}C$ and 19.44$^{\circ}C$ However, the thermal mitigation effect of Dalsung park and Apsan park was insignificant. The small size and high percentage of hard paving of the former and the relative low density of the residential areas adjacent to the latter could be the main reason. In conclusion, the thermal mitigation effect in urban ope spaces could be detectedby the employment of thermal band data of Landsat TM and GIS buffering technique.

  • In recent years, attention on the inhabitation environments of animals and plants which coexist with humans is growing more and more, and relevant research is being activated. In habitats of rivers, a lot of factors are interacting, even among them, some elements especially such hydraulic factors as water velocity and water depth, and such geological shapes as gravels, sand and mud are being considered as primary elements. In this study, various field investigations are carried out to determine the relationship between the river habitats of fishes and hydraulic primary elements using high-tech equipments. Furthermore numerical experiments to classify such habitats according to topographical spaces are carried out. In detail, hydraulic field investigations performed in this study can be summarized as topographical survey, discharge measurement, water level fluctuation monitoring and so on. In numerical experiments, the RMA2 model of the commercial program, Surface-Water Modeling System (SMS), which is widely used in conducting a two-dimensional analysis of the flow behavior of a river is utilized. In conclusion, as a result of field investigation, the relationship between water velocity and water depth is obtained. And the relationship between water velocity and water temperature is identified, too. Finally, using above obtained results, the inhabitation environment was classified into Riffle, Glide, Run, Pool, and E.D.Z according to the relationship between water velocity and water depth.

  • This study is to enhance the provincial leisure plans through various programs and infrastructure facilities and to establish a network of natural leisure areas in Gyeonggi-do. According to the result, first, in terms of analyzing the locations of natural leisure areas by types, the rest of urban parks is formed in the Capital area outside Seoul as centering around the central area. Moreover, with regard to the rest of forest and the rest of natural ecology learning, the area of the detention exceeds the total area of Gyeonggi-do. The rest of valleys and swamps showed a dotted pattern of the detention area while the rest of tideland and fishing village experience indicated a distribution of the detention area along the West Coast as an axis. Second, according to result of analyzing the accessibility of natural leisure areas by types, the rest of valleys and swamps showed the highest accessibility among the natural leisure areas : the rest of natural ecology learning had the medium level of accessibility; the rest of forest indicated the lowest accessibility. Therefore, it is necessary to create more leisure areas concerning the futures demands. In addition, they should be constructed in the places adjacent to the urban district area exhibiting higher usability and accessibility. In the places where there are many natural leisure area with higher utility, management plans should be deliberated as well. Based on the result of analyzing the rest of valleys and swamps and the rest of tideland and fishing village experience, it was found that the natural leisure area should improve the quality of water intensively and hydrophile property and create hydrophilic spaces. The development of natural leisure areas need to be carried out under the principle of environmental protection while considering historic sites and nearby rivers and lakes. Moreover, water leisure programs should be developed actively as well with further utilization of water resources in order to enhance the usability of natural leisure.

  • The comprehension of water-level behavior in rivers is essential for effective flood and river environmental management. The objective of this study is to propose a methodology that can be used by field engineers engaged in actual practice, to readily identify the characteristics of water-level behavior during flood events. To this end, a total of 45 historical water-level records from 2010 to 2022 year, which provide flood information for the flood vulnerable districts of the Han River, were obtained. A Water-level Rise Behavior Curve (WRBC) was developed and suggested to quantify the amount of water-level rise per unit time during flood. As a result, the water-level rises by more than 80% of the total rise within the first 6.2 hours, followed by a gradual rise. The time required to achieve a particular equilibrium varied depending on the area and runoff characteristics of the upstream. Furthermore, the study revealed that the WRBC provides a statistical representation of the water-level rise trend during floods, and can be effectively utilized for flood mitigation measures in waterfront spaces and irrigation facilities.
