As an essential prerequisite for systematic and integrated management of river water, it is necessary to secure the basic data such as discharge supplied to the river and released from the river. Under the current permit system for river water use, 59.1% of licensed facilities were found to have no discharge meters in 2017, especially for agricultural water, which makes it difficult to secure reliable data as a large portion of the reports are voluntarily reported by users. In this study, the indirect discharge measurement method of calculating the discharge through the power usage of the pumping station was applied to secure reliable discharge data. In particular, focusing on the fact that the discharge calculated by the power usage method differed with the actual discharge according to the level of the river, the study was conducted on improving the power usage method reflecting the river water level and improving the accuracy of discharge data. Analysis of the discharge calculated using the power usage method considering river water level using the correlation analysis method such as regression analysis, percent difference, root mean square error etc. confirmed that the results are not high compared to the conventional power usage method, but are slightly more approximated to the actual discharge. Therefore, although reliable discharge data can be obtained from the existing power usage method, it is expected that more accurate data on intaking water of river water can be obtained if the improved power usage method is used at points where the variation in the water level of the river is large.

Continuous and accurate instrument of river water usage is needed for sustainable river water management. Although the instrument methods applicable to each point of use of river water are different, more precise direct instrument methods are required at the point of major open channel. Users of river water should select appropriate direct instrument methods to measure usage, but there is a lack of standards and verification research. In this study, the H-Q rating curve method, ultrasonic method, and microwave method were applied directly to the test basin in the upper basin of Mangyeong river, and the accuracy of measurement data was evaluated by comparing absolute error between discharge data calculated by instrument method. When comparing the calculated discharge of point units, the ultrasonic method showed the best results of the actual measurement. Through continuous instrument, the sum of the daily and monthly units was compared, and the ultrasonic and microwave methods were shown to be highly accurate. Based on the results of this study, it is hoped that the appropriate direct measurement method can be selected according to the importance of the river water use facility, considering that the ultrasonic method and the microwave method are relatively costly compared to the water level-flow relationship method.

The purpose of this study is to suggest improvements of Eco-Natural map preparation guideline by presenting assessment methods that can be applied to the result of river ecosystem health survey and assessment, using the Geographic Information System. The area for studying is the main stream of the Hwang River where is easy to collect data and available to compare before and after of river assessment. It was reevaluated by reflecting the result of river ecosystem health assessment of the Ministry of Environment. As the result, Eco-Natural map of the study area reflecting the river assessment, the changes in the area ratio by grade have been increased from 1.14% to 14.03% in the first-grade and from 24.64% to 43.91% in the second-grade. It is considered to present more realistic grade due to the assessment of the rivers that have not been reflected in the meantime. Consequently, the result of this study will be useful for establishing the development projects on the rivers, providing the foundation for more realistic and active protection.
Since the introduction of the eco-friendly concepts in river management more than 40 years ago, many efforts have been made, such as the improvement of laws and systems, and research and development, and now river environment management is becoming the main issue of river management along with the flood damage reduction. This paper reviewed the history of improvement in relevant laws, and the current river plans prescribed by law. And as a way to improve the effectiveness of river environment management, the importance and implementation method of the level of naturalness survey of physical habitats in rivers were proposed.
The dipole-dipol electrical resistivity survey was conducted to investigate the probable contamination of the Han river by leachate from the near-by Nanjido Landfill. The survey line of 3 km was set along the unpaved road toward the Han river. For the convenience of the field work, the survey line was divided into four segments. The complete two-dimensional resistivity section was constructed by connecting the inversion result of each segment. Gravity survey was also carried out along the profile parallel to the resistivity line. Near surface resistivity generally appeared to be of very low value in most part of the survey area and the boundary between the alluvium layer and underlying basement rocks is well discriminated on the resistivity section. These results agree well with those of the preceding Schlumberger depth sounding made at adjacent area by Lee and fun (1995). The variation of thickness of the alluvium layer delineated by gravity anomaly profile also correlates well with the result of the resistivity survey on the qualitative basis. The problem of contamination by leachate from the Nanjido Landfill, where various waste materials have been dumped without any proper treatment facilities, has been remains unsolved yet. Therefore, we present the most probable passages of leachate flow based on the survey results and have briefly discussed about measure for contamination control. Considering the thickness of alluvium and the possible existence of fractured zone, the middle point between 1st and 2nd landfill and the midst of 1st landfill are the most hazardous regions to make leachates flow into the Han river. Since large amounts of leachates are observed from the test wells located on the lines extending from the border between the 1st and 2nd landfill and the middle of the lst landfill, contamination protection barriers are strongly recommended near these regions.
This survey is executed about the water quality and improvement measure of Imjin- river. The results are summarized as follows; 1 ) Ammonia nitrogen concentration in tap water was two times higher than drinking water standard. 2) The concentration of BOD in textile wastewater was 235ppm which is higher than wastewater distribution standard and leather wastewater showed high nitrogen concentration. 3) Water quality of the Imjin- river upstream was not in problem but that of Shin- stream showed somewhat high concentration in BOD, COD, and ammonia nitrogen. Especially the detected Cynide compound on the lower of Shin- stream implied seriously polluted condition. 4) The heavy metal in soil of the river bed was not detected but iron, zinc was detected to high concentration. 5) It Is urgently suggested to build more municipal sewage and sanitary treatment plants, and run dredging and river bed rearrangement project. 6) The Construction of the wastewater treatment complexes of relevant industries shall be propelled as soon as possible.
The method for estimating the minimum instream flows required for the riverline aesthetics, proposed by the Kim et al.(1996), has been applied to the main channel reach of the Keum river basin in Korea. To determine the minimum instream flows for eight main reaches at Keum river basin, six representative stations have been selected. This paper provides an analysis of influence on the riverline aesthetics, which is affected by change of physical components of river, by using the survey-based quantification method. The developed questionnaire based on the literature, and submitted to the 326 people who visited an each representative station. This surveying had been implemented in three times at each representative station and we had been selected a different flowrate at each implementation. The results of this analysis and survey have produced the relationship between the variation of physical components and riverline aesthetics. Survey results bout the flow comparison are summarized as follows. At the view of riverline aesthetics, most of the respondents re sensitive at the change of the flow velocity and they prefer high water level to low water level. Moreover whole respondents prefer to abundant stream flows and moderate flow velocity. The minimum flows for riverline aesthetics is estimated at each representative station by using the survey-based quantification method and the estimated results of some representative station are greater than mean monthly flow at each station. The result of the analysis appears that establishing minimum instream flows for riverline aesthetics is not only a technical problem but a legal problem. Therefore in the case of establishing the instream flows in the river, the estimated results have to be considered as relative standard.
In the present study, hydrologic data and topographical data from 2010 to 2019 were collected from three gauging stations placed in the watershed of Naeseong stream to determine changes and rates of changes in rainfall, water level & mean velocity, and water level & discharge, together with changes in rates of erosion and deposition at cross-sections of the river. Besides, effects of regulated and non-regulated rivers according to the presence of artificial regulation of flow rate of the river via artificial structure located at Seo stream (Yeongju si (Wolhogyo) station), the tributary free from construction of dams, were compared and analyzed. Results of analyses conducted in the present study revealed vegetational establishment and landforming due to increasing area of vegetational sandbar evolved in the flood plain (intermediate- or high- water level) by the drought sustained from 2013 to 2015. Continuous erosion of river bed was appeared because of narrowed flow area with low water level and increased velocity and tractive force on river bed.
